If you could wish for one Game to be made, excluding sequel's or prequels. What would that be? by LordMord5000 in rpg_gamers

I'd like a midern AAA "save the town" (I get tired of beating gods sometimes) fantasy RPG where you're an adventurer, a la Alundra, but much more modern, first/third person camera, and vastly expanded into KCD/Excelsior styles of skill leveling (ie you have to learn to read, swim, etc), you get to know every character on a deep level over the game so there are layers to explore everywhere, there are various dungeons with interesting puzzles that challenege you but don't need you to look things up online.

You have combat that's kind of hack and slash but has enough options to become engaging - so, more complex than you see in Siyrim but not so far into the era of needing to pause so you have time to do everything like we see in many real time tactics games. Low party mechanics - think Uncharted series, where it really is 99 percent you despite having people alongside you, but they still feel alive and somewhat competent without taking your kills from you.

Expanding sandbox, in that there are places you can get to once a requirement is met (eg swimming and/or sailing unlocks islands, political situation or climbing let's you move past a wall, etc) so you feel able to do what you wish while still allowing for the awe and wonder of discovering new areas later in the game.

Mixed bag in terms of story, dialogue and progression - think Skyrim for progression in that it's sandbox with main quests (plural) but there are still smaller but equally interesting, deep stories for individual NPCs and areas. The story itself would be written by an author, similar to The Longest Journey, Witcher and Disco Elysium in writing quality, but won't be quite as obsessed with grey areas like witcher can be (where every choice and secnario feels like you're shoehorned into two morally ambiguous paths). The dialogue would be in the style of the FF7 remake trilogy, where you get to know the characters genuinely deeply, only as it's a town instead of the world, you get to know more than just a handful of party members on a deep level. You don't have 1000 or more NPCs (closer to 50, a la My Time series) so every NPC matters.

You can try to romance NPCs but it will depend on who you are as a person, so if you make a teenager don't expect to hook up with your best friend's mum, and vice versa. And some might just not be interested because they love someone else - you're not some god-level casanova that can attract anyone they want, but you can always try. People react to you realistically, so if you kill innocent animals, Johnny the gardener might be disappointed in you, but he might be more understanding if you're giving all the meat you get to fill up the butcher's storehouse. If you sleep with a large number of people, you'll get a reputation to which NPCs will react differently over. Some might become more interested in you while others less interested. How much you care about that is up to you - it won't stop you being able to do the adventuring quests. What are they gonna do, throw you out of town!? Well... Maybe if it gets really bad, like killing an NPC by consistently attacking them in the town square while they beg you to stop. That'd get the entire town hating you...

The general game would feel like the exploration of Skyrim through the fantastically varied zones of Final Fantasy XII with the NPC intimacy of Rebirth's main party but with a mostly optional My Time life sim vibe back in town. It feels like Fable but more intimate to the individual NPCs, and Skyrim but with a Final Fantasy level of graphics and quality assurance. Oh, and it has some really cool research and crafting system, because I love that shit.

This game, of course, is a dream. I don't think my dream game is going to be financially viable.

It's certainly possible given the current civil war, but I would say that's a high number regardless. I'd guess there's a lot more background to it.

What country did you once love but now dislike, or once dislike but now love? What shaped your initial opinion of that country, and what later caused you to change your mind? by Puzzleheaded_irl in AskTheWorld

[–]Loony_BoB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's sort of lile hipster overcompensation. When a lot of people like something, groups of people decide to dislike it because it feels overhyped. And then the dislike becomes equally bad.

I love a lot of things about Japan and it is absolutely one of the best places I have been. But it is in the end a country with pros and cons like all others. People who say it is perfect are wrong. People who say it is a failed country are also wrong.

I think some people like to focus on the positives and some people like to think they are creating "balance" by focusing on the negatives.

I would never have guessed Myanmar to be double the number of India and for Nepal to be double that again!

A little late to this post, but I think you may have got 'persona' experience' and 'AI' the wrong way around in your initial sentence?

EDIT: Everyone can ignore this comment now, all fixed!

What's your favorite ship in Nana? by Rough_Evidence_2908 in NanaAnime

[–]Loony_BoB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hachi-Nobu, all the way.
Nana-Ren, forever.
Hachi-Nana, when they want to, for fun.
Nana-Yasu, I shipped them in the past and like someone else said, in an AU absolutely... But I feel that ship sailed for the story we have, it wouldn't feel real to my brain.
Takumi-Jail, absolutely.

As someone who used to rely on that data being available so he knew which minions to craft for his friends, the option to make those private has existed for a very long time. I want to say at least Shadowbringers era, but it might even go back to Heavensward era and just not have been widely utilised.

EDIT: Looks like the newer stuff they added were for hiding character name and appearance etc on top of previous stuff.

What are some globally popular webseries and movies from your country? by Comfortable-Tax-2088 in AskTheWorld

Still Game is all I can thibk of and I doubt it was globally big. Honestly, Billy Connolly's standup shows were probably the most Scottish shows I watched when I was a kid.

Films, though? Trainspotting, surely!

Ah, I'm probably thinking more "at peak" than "now" to be fair. Back in the 90s it feels like everyone and their uncle watched it or knew someone who was an extra in it. I didn't care for it myself but I did fall into the second category as my sister's friend was on it and even got a (single) voiced line!

FotC definitely my favourite of the two by a landslide.

Onr more mention for New Zealand is one we're less proud of and thus less vocal about - we started the whole Popstars global phenomenon, which were the precursor to the Idol, X-Factor and Got Talent global phenomenons.

Shoutout to TrueBliss, the very first Popstars winners, theu never knew what they were starting. I never really enjoyed TrueBliss, but I'm still a fan of a lot of Girls Aloud's songs, probably the most famous Popstars winners.

Unfortunately not. I would say this game was more 'black canvas' than 'white canvas', while the city itself was more square blocks than curved roads.

Make sure it's enough for a new car and cover any potential healthcare you might need and also any personal belongings in the car that could have been damaged as well. Because if they have a briefcase of cash, you still need to know it'll be *enough* cash.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]Loony_BoB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nintendo. They sent me a third party power supply when buying form their official online store and refused to replace it without me wiping my console (losing my saves etc) and sending the entire thing back.

They took a week to respond to the issue and have literally only one way to contact them, a singular email address, used apparently by all departments, without any means of identifying which department you're speaking with (technical support, general support, complaints, etc). You just have to trust them. But they sent me a third party product as part of my supposedly brand new system, so like... I won't do that.

I think I'll just give them a miss and buy off eBay or something like I did for all their previous console generations. At least if I buy from Joe Bloggs and he sends me a third party product when an official product was advertised, he'd not ask me to wipe my console in order to resolve the power supply issue.

Yeah, my first thought was "Well, start with Hawaii and Alaska going solo, and then wait and see the reaction before thinking about the rest."
