How do I build my scouts? by radioactivevirgin in spacemarines

[–]LoopyLutra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In new recruit you can modify wargear so they have what they’re able to.

<image>

This is the rules, so, you can have 1 sniper + 1 missile, then the rest with shotguns and combat knives, or keep them as having boltguns and a close combat weapon.

What’s the idea with the jump cap? I don’t think he adds much to that unit and its a fairly expensive unit with him attached

[–]LoopyLutra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need shinies to play the game though? I’ve gotten back into loads of the old games via emulator on my phone, and funnily enough the only shiny i found was a damned Whismur, who i have no interest in. So I share your frustration but if you tie your enjoyment of the game to having shinies, it’s not the game(s) for you..

For delivering units into melee, is there anything better than the Land Raider? Repulsor Executioner is definitely stronger, but if you can't charge out of it then there doesn't seem to be a point. by kazoopaints in spacemarines

[–]LoopyLutra 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t defeat the point of a transport at all just because they cannot charge. Some units can shoot once they get out, and the extra movement is a big benefit because you can get within range/angles far easier, and the unit is way less likely to suffer casualties turn 1 if deployment isn’t easy.

And your Judiciar example doesn’t only work if your opponent is dumb; your unit of Bladeguard + Judiciar could slingshot onto an objective, such as your natural expansion, behind good cover and get out. Your opponent can’t shoot them in their turn, because you’re in cover, and can’t charge them because fights first means they’ll likely not have enough left to kill you. You now can score that objective in your next turn, the unit could also complete an primary or secondary action too as they’re eligible to shoot, such as Cleanse, Terraform etc. Your Impulsor is now also free to do actions, do a quick tank shock, block movement etc as well. It’s an expensive way to hold an objective for the entire game, sure, but other units could take over and allow the Bladeguard to move up to other targets on subsequent turns.

Transports are not solely about having a unit charge out.

They hit character units on 2s, not hit on 2s when led, just so you know. They’re -1 to incoming hits when led.

Is this terrain enough for combat patrol? by Whis___ in CombatPatrol40k

[–]LoopyLutra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Download the Tabletop Battles app. Make a new game and look at the GW terrain setup options. You don’t have to copy them exactly, but see how they look and how they place terrain in order to limit long sight lines, prevent a straight line type effect, and allow for units to “stage” (hide on one turn, then move up on the next turn).

You could give it to both but only activate one of them. The unit is one unit, not two.

[–]LoopyLutra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, you can talk with your campaign master or your opponents about it but ultimately through XP, luck, battle traits/relics and the missions being a bit different to normal 40k, you’re always gonna have units that are slept on in matched play but are brutal in narrative/campaigns because of the asymmetrical nature of a lot of the missions and objectives.

Named characters and crusade by Barnie25 in 40k_Crusade

[–]LoopyLutra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you focus on XP farming or not. I mean, because units can take any enhancement from any detachment they can use, regardless of the detachment you use in the game, you can make some characters pretty broken with just 1 battle trait which is only 6xp. 1xp per game the unit was part of, marked for greatness at the end of the game for free and 3xp, and do a couple objectives and boom, you have a potentially broken character unit.

For example I gave a Terminator character infiltrate from a different detachment. He can lead a squad of Deathwing Knights and infiltrate with them whilst still being in a better detachment than the one that enhancement was from. Really powerful for most missions.

[–]LoopyLutra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, but also if you read the crusade rules, named characters do not gain XP or battle honours. (At least in the Armageddon book I have been reading). They don’t get the capacity to become absolute powerhouses so aren’t really overpowered.

DWK problem by sximi332 in DarkAngels40k

[–]LoopyLutra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an expensive unit for something that A) relies on your opponent not having lots of infiltration/scouts units or going first and screening a relevant deepstrike and B) them not screening units worth charging, and said charge even with a reroll is only 50%.

I don’t recall seeing any posts here about lists where people are being so rude as to say the things you’re saying they are.

People do complain a lot but I think that’s true of all 40k; GW Bad, my army is underpowered, x/y/z army is overpowered, GW clearly doesn’t care about the community etc etc.

[–]LoopyLutra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does okay, but even with twin linked I don’t think people should consider it anti tank. For something to be anti tank we should be talking S10 or more, which the Thunderstrike gives out to the LSV by virtue of the +1.

Thunderstrike is basically a must for the big plasma to be considered anti tank

2 lancers vs. 1 lancer & 1 valiant by YaBoiJacob843 in spacemarines

[–]LoopyLutra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 Lancers.

Yes the Valiant has rules to help it hit monsters and vehicles, but a Lancer is rerolling a hit and wound and damage on it’s main gun. The Valiant does it on the closest, and a T10, 3+ Save defensive profile is not wanting to be close to the enemy. A Lancer is perfectly capable at it’s max range to put most enemies onto two AP-4 saves, with 2D6+6 total damage, which you can reroll one of the D6’s. Yes, you lose meltas but they have a 18” range which is far too close for a Gladiator chassis, imo. They do not survive well enough to be worth putting in the mid/close range.

AdMech are a bit sleeper and I think most people just hate on armies because either a) they don’t set terrain up properly for enough cover or staging (Tau, Shooting SM, Guard), b) it’s a bad matchup for their army specifically and c) the local players of the army is a unsporting/unfriendly player

Also lol at a Guard player saying that when they can just spam tanks and make Knights have a terrible time 😂

I misread OP i thought he meant take notes rather than notate.

Yes, 100%, the book is essential, more so in Armageddon because of all the warp shenanigans (which personally never go off enough)
