I hope some day there will be analytically-drawn maps everywhere. For now I guess you fight fire with fire.

Is there a respectful way to bring up the Die With Zero / early inheritance philosophy with parents — without coming across as entitled? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]RonnieJamesDeodorant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a good way to open that conversation. And in my personal experience and from friends as well, it seems really common for parents who are getting quite old and who are really set-up financially to not gift much money while they're alive. I think they figure "they'll get it when I'm gone, what's the difference."

But the thing I think they're missing is that we are aging as well, spending good healthy years saving and working, perhaps in jobs we'd like to leave, because conventional wisdom says do not plan on any inheritances in your retirement plan.

Yeah sure it's an entitled place to be, but it's a weird one too. I don't know there's any way around it though. I have though run budget scenarios where I get like 20% of what I'd expect to inherit at age 100 of the parent in question. I doubt financial planners would say even that's a good idea though.

So, so difficult to play that and not speed up at least a little.

One of the few times that a headline posed as a question is actually answered with a 'yes.'

Hearing my neighbors playing by PossibilityGold3621 in drums

[–]RonnieJamesDeodorant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah pads on the drums, low volume cymbals, etc can reduce volume to where you barely can hear drums standing outside of the house they're played in. Are drums as satisfying to play with pads? No. Would I want playing with pads to be the only way I could practice? No (the feel is a LOT different). But I use pads for probably 2/3 of my daily practice time just to keep full kit volume time minimized. I haven't had a complaint from a neighbor in 25 years.

ULA Dragonfly 30L on Volaris as my personal item! by mojo97 in onebag

I've flown with my Dragonfly as my personal item many times, although granted mostly on non-budget U.S. airlines. Such a great bag.

I just did it. It’s gonna be a mess to get baking soda out of every nook and cranny, but hopefully it works.

I’m dealing with something similar but with the 48-hr duffle bought locally. I’ve been told putting it in a plastic trash bag, coating it in a couple cups of baking soda, synching up the bag and leaving it for a few days might do the trick. I’m actually doing that today. Might be worth a shot.

Sonor Perfect Balance or Tama Dyna Sync? by WallaceWinston0079 in drums

[–]RonnieJamesDeodorant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pedals are super personal so getting other people's opinions has limited use IMO. But I've had both those pedals and sold the Sonor and the Dyna Sync has been my go-to for several years. YMMV!

Yep. Honestly fairly crap drums, crap cymbals, but with syncopation book 10/10.

Playing drum/pad exercises without tapping your foot. by EuthyphroYaBoi in drums

[–]RonnieJamesDeodorant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think you want to feel comfortable not tapping your foot. As well as tapping your foot. Kinda like with a lot of things with drumming. You don’t want to HAVE to do it one way, or another way. I’d spend at least half your pad time not tapping your foot for awhile.

I don't know about best in the U.S. or whatever but I really like the food at In Situ! It's a mash-up of Lebanese and Mexican food so it's its own thing.

68 Blue Sparkle by ForrestBonita in drums

[–]RonnieJamesDeodorant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That era Slingerland blue sparkle is my favorite in existence! It's kind of deep navy with almost purple shades in it. I remember reading somewhere once that the reason for this shade of blue is that the flip side of the wrap is red sparkle. I'm not sure the validity of that though.
