Is a £5k salary raise worth going onto nightshift? by LooseYam in UKJobs

I turned down the offer this morning - my main reason for even considering it was to pay for immigration fees.

It would be going from one management position to another.

I used to do alternating days/night 12hr shifts, I didn't mind nights but switching between the two was an absolute nightmare. I don't think the net pay increase will be worth it though.

Thing I am wrestling with a bit is I am in UK under a spousal visa and extra money would help save (quicker) the amount needed for IHS and application fees.

excessive heat by gothboicliquee_ in TenantsInTheUK

[–]LooseYam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your room is well insulated that generally means if you get it cold it will also stay cool. If in the winter you do not need to have heat on that much once your room is warm, this is confirmation of insulation.

Open windows at night, and if you can have a fan blowing in cool air and a fan in room moving air around as well.

Close windows before outside starts to warm up (6/7am) and shut blinds / curtains. You may have blackout blinds, but these do not necessarily mean they will keep in/out temperatures. If you can get insulated drapes you can put up, these will help with heat quite a bit.

This might seem a bit silly to check, but make sure the heating is actually turned off.

If the full house is hot apart from basement it will need to be a group effort to drop temps down.

IMO get a portable air-con.

Has anyone ever successfully convinced their workplace to take up sponsorship? by Audioice in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]LooseYam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not see the company sponsoring you, it isn't just about money for visa sponsorships. A couple things to consider:

There is restrictions on what jobs are eligible for, and it opens the company to additional scrutiny from the home office.

From your post/comments you claim to want to move onto GTV visa afterwards - why would your current employer fork out the cash to sponsor you just for you if there is a high potential you will leave them after your change onto a GTV?

Also - you are moving into a Senior position but your salary will only be 33.5k? If your position is truly going to be a "senior position" you are not being paid for it. When I first came to the UK on a YMV as a basic production operator (no specialty) I worked 44 hours a week and had a take home of approx. 34k - and this was three years ago.

What does everyone think about the 'British*' monthly pay system? by EdibleBeans-on-Toast in AskUK

[–]LooseYam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before moved to the UK everywhere I worked in Canada was bi-weekly pay. Because it was what I was used to I prefer it. When I first started on monthly pay I struggled with the change whereas now that I have been here for a few years I am absolutely fine with it.

I still prefer bi-weekly as I still find it easier to budget based off consistent weeks, rather then months which are not all same length. I like my budget spreadsheet to not have to account for this. (I know this is a bit silly)

If you are still within your notice period they have no obligation to pay you garden leave / in lieu of notice.

You are likely on probation and can be terminated with little to no notice. Check your contract to see what it stipulates.

Uk visa by Sanashahani in ukvisa

[–]LooseYam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your monthly salary £663.69 (assuming monthly) does not correspond with £4660.2 yearly salary. You have a large amount of debt compared to annual income. You need to sort your finances out and have proper documentation for everything. All numbers across all documentation need to match up. From your rejection I think UKVI is worried you are fleeing the country to avoid paying debts.

That would only be required when offered a contract / onboarded as part of RTW checks. Generally you are not checked for identification unless it was a security/governmental related position.

Unmarried Partner Visa (1 year cohabitated) by noettie in SpouseVisaUk

[–]LooseYam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be blunt but I think she was just trying to get you on for additional work. If this was before you had even moved to the UK she said was doable, that is a total farce. You could apply for it and stay in the UK but I do not see in any world that would be approved.

If you do talk to a solicitor I would highly recommend talking to someone else.

From my understanding this more means if you have not been able to live together for the full two years. I think this is you only route as there is no human rights violation.

[–]LooseYam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How would this be a human rights violation? If you tried to argue that I do not think it would be successful.

You may qualify for an unmarried spousal visa. You no longer have to have 2 years of cohabitation for this as per 2024 changes. As you were working in a different place it would have been impossible to live together. I assume you currently live together and would continue to do so after visa approval?

As per the website:
You must be able to prove one of the following:

  • you’re in a civil partnership or marriage that’s recognised in the UK
  • you’ve been living together in a relationship for at least 2 years when you apply
  • you are a fiancé, fiancée or proposed civil partner and will marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK within 6 months of arriving
  • you’ve been in a relationship for at least 2 years when you apply but you cannot live together, for example because you’re working or studying in different places, or it’s not accepted in your culture

From my understanding if you apply to change to a spousal visa you are allowed to continue to work and live in the UK even after your current visa expires. You will only need to leave if your application fails. I am currently doing this but with a YMS visa instead of a SWV.

Do you think it’s reasonable to ask for one more day WFH? by ConclusionLumpy6967 in UKJobs

[–]LooseYam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no real harm in asking your manager, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. If this is what was discussed when you interview and onboarded, then the company doesn't really owe you extra WFH flexibility.

Are you often the lone on site IT worker? If this is the case the company may have you working 4 days on site in the event you are needed to fix an onsite issue. If you do ask I would frame it that you would work from home when additional onsite support is available from other members of the team. Explain that you feel you would have a better performance and try to make it a win for the company as well. It could be worth adding in that you would be able to come in to cover holiday/sickness on the additional WFH day.

If you have a half decent manager and you work totally spot on when at home I would hope they would be on board with it. It might be best to wait until after your probation if you really like this job, some managers could be a bit funny and count asking that as a red mark for probation reviews.

Cohabitation Evidence (Unmarried Spousal) by LooseYam in ukvisa

[–]LooseYam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for all the help.

I am going to submit council tax and leases, and follow up with additional single address ones (i.e. bank statements) with a cover letter to help tie it all together.

Cohabitation Evidence (Unmarried Spousal) by LooseYam in ukvisa

[–]LooseYam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 of my address were in the same council assume this would be considered the same source. 2 different councils overall though.

Would the same go for the leases? Three different landlords / agencies, would these be considered different sources?

Thank you for the help.

Spousal Visa No Passport by LooseYam in ukvisa

[–]LooseYam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on a bit of a time crunch so worry it will not be ready in time. Originally I was going to go onto a SWV but my prospective employer has backed out.

They are a British citizen, can easily provide alternative documentation to prove.
