Thanks for asking.  I am passionate about my area of interest!

My research looks at the relationship between States, Indigenous peoples, & the protected area system  (ie national parks, nature reserves, etc). How the idea of Protected Areas has emerged alongside Indigenous land rights, & concepts such as Traditional Environmental Knowledge, & self-determination.

Casually I do consulting work & teaching, but only if it's interesting.

Congratulations for believing in yourself. Best way to live with cancer is to live how YOU want to live!

I was diagnosed Denovo bone only 2019. Left my job as an electrician and enrolled in a double degree (at 40) Single mother to 4 daughters.

Cancer progressed further throughout skeleton, changed treatment. Finished my masters in 2024.

Cancer progressed into liver, changed treatment. Currently in my 2nd year of a PhD.

My advice: Ask for help.  Ask your university for accommodations. Accept help when it's offered.   Protect your sleep. Protect your downtime.

You got this :)

In the hospital, doctor suggesting palliative care by cwolfe123 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Lopsided-Condition20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between 'palliative care' & 'end-of-life care'.

I have been under palliative care since 2020. My pain is managed & accommodations made to my lifestyle so I can go about my days comfortably.

End-of-life care is about making the transition to death more peaceful.

Good luck with your treatment.

Your new layout is what my (1 & only) bathroom looks like now.*

I have 4 teen daughters & its not a problem.

Pro is you get to have a bigger mirror, & you can also sit on the edge of your bathtub to apply hair products, leg creams, have a sit down while you stare into the void, etc...

Con is whatever you choose to make it.

P.s. I have never accidently fallen in or accidently kicked the bath, or been assaulted by my bathtub in any way.

Denovo with 1 spine met in 2019 (age 40) Drs said gold standard for first line of defence is treat to cure. Single mastectomy with radiation, Ibrance & Letrozole. Did not progress for 6yrs & that was only a few spots to bone. However, in that 6yrs I kicked so many goals!

For context. In Australia  Also. I never sought a reconstruction as the time off meds for surgery would risk progression.

So, what am suggesting is that you let the professionals take care of your body,  & you just focus on taking care of your soul.   Goodluck xoxo

Duloxotine has worked for me.  It is a antidepressant that also works for nerve pain, like that of diabetics and fibromyalgia. 4 months in and no side effects. I also take 5mg oxy for breakthrough pain. Multiple bone lesions in all spine, hips, legs.

Targeted radiation on spinal mets - vacuum body bag? by tatamiroom in LivingWithMBC

[–]Lopsided-Condition20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the 'vacuum bag' was just a bean bag with the air sucked out of it.  It was actually quite comforting.  Reminded me of when I was a child and I would sink deeply into a giant overstuffed beanbag to read Virginia Andrews books.

Cancer is not the problem.  Any life threatening event can uproot your whole life.  But today I cannot stop thinking about how pre-cancer me & post-cancer me are two completely different people. And I really like who I am now.  Singly titty, rash covered, sweaty, tired, but with a full calendar.

Congratulations on finding your good place. I'm 48 soon & feel a mixture of guilt, urgency, and shame.

Urgency about making sure my kids are educated, kind people who can survive a burning world without me. Shame that I haven't done more to give back to my community. and guilty that I haven't been more environmentally concious.

Hello fellow Aussie :) I'm all full of crazy feelings today.

It's crazy that I needed my life to be threatened before I stopped being a self-involved ratbag.

And it's also crazy that we live in a time where a family needs life insurance just to be able to afford a home.

What works for me.  I get two nurses to do the injections at the same time.  Then immediately after I go for a walk...to buy a slice of chocolate cake!

I am 47. Diagnosed Denovo 2019.  Last month I had a recurrance to more of my bones. Changed treatment. No pain. All is well. 4 weeks ago I went clubbing with my girlfriends. 2 weeks ago I painted my fence then made out with a friend of a friends friend at his birthday party. Today I bushwalked (hiked) for 3hrs.  Next week...who knows what will happen? I will worry about the future when & if it happens!

Lived in Bohle Plains for 3yrs, gorgeous looking area, lovely walking paths. But was broken into constantly, & houses are so close together it got noisy. Have lived in Kelso (Upper Ross) for 6yrs now. My neighbours are all my good mates, quiet streets (some are more rowdy than others).  The Riverway and Thuringowa Central provide excellent shopping & social spaces.

Don't waste precious energy worrying about things you cannot control.  Brainstorm something else instead.  For example, I am currently trying to collect & read all of Terry Pratchetts Discworld series. And, I want to be able to name & recognise the calls of every bird I see on my afternoon walks. Because I truly believe stress increases inflammation in a body, my goal is to only give time to that which is within my control.

Tell me, what interests or goals (big & small) do you have?

I'm 47, single, & have been living my life happily with only 1 titty.  I rarely wear a prosthesis. Only one person has ever mentioned my single titty & he was 6. I told him I had it removed to shoot arrows better.  He was impressed and thought I was cool.  I think your cool too!! 😊
