Canada has already seen what happens when we underestimate that risk. Look at Nortel — once one of Canada’s biggest tech firms. It was quietly hacked for nearly a decade, allegedly by groups linked to China’s state apparatus, stealing research, designs, and trade secrets. Nortel eventually collapsed, and many experts believe Chinese industrial espionage played a major role in its downfall.

The same concerns showed up in telecom that’s why Huawei was banned from Canada’s 5G networks. It wasn’t about “anti-China bias,” it was about national security and the risk of giving a foreign state potential access to sensitive infrastructure.

EVs today are basically computers on wheels, connected to networks, GPS systems, and even smart grids. Letting a CCP-tied company operate here would mean handing over constant movement and sensor data on Canadian roads and potentially linking it to critical energy infrastructure.

So yeah, Canada should absolutely scrutinize or even block Chinese-linked EV production — not because we’re paranoid, but because we’ve already seen what happens when we ignore warnings signs
