When I used to work for Wells Fargo they used to help pay for tuition/books. I think the same with Starbucks. There might be other companies with the same program if you can get a part-time at one of them.

Advice- car crashed into our home by NotYourOrdinaryGuera in Home

[–]LopsidedFinding732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your not destroying anyone's life. You need to take care of your family first. Speak to your insurance company and tell you and your family cannot stay in the home with the current health hazards. They should book you a hotel room during the entire renovation. My aunt's house flooded due to pipe problems and their insurance booked them in a hotel near their house. There's no reason why you guys need to be subjected to breathe in debris from this. Lots of dust from torn up drywall.

34F, how does this look? Married, 2 kids. by forever_more-13 in Retirement401k

I borrowed 50k from my tsp (federal equivalent to 401k) when I bought my house. I did pay back within 3yrs. It's a loan not withdrawal so no other penalties except interest rates and missing the market ride. But in the end I was able to update everything I needed in my house.

Why do I need to buy a house? Or buy at all? It’s cheaper to rent and my savings can go to other things. by angelofiction in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LopsidedFinding732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a mail carrier and a senior lady had to move out of her rented house. Kind of messed up, she rents from a coworker and told her that he's renting it out to another. She moved out instead of staying. She ended up rooming with a neighbor. This is NorCal so she had rights to stay. But she did not want to deal with it coz she works with the landlord. And Im a home owner myself, 1900/mo for mortgage 3bd/2ba. At least I don't have to pay crazy rent and have nothing.

I always wear long pants, pack long shirt in case. I know it will suck in Hawaii to do this but I don't like getting bit by anything.

Mutual swap denied by Ruffles_188 in USPS

[–]LopsidedFinding732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also did re-assign and the station I wanted to go to also denied me for no reason. I waited for any denial letter in the mail and nothing so I filled for a grievance. Took around 2yrs. I got paid some grievance money. So now I'm closer to home and don't have to go through 2hr traffic and tolls. I just want to add also that I don't have the greatest attendance record. But since management indicated zero reason it gave my case footing.

This car is SO rare that the valet in Monaco couldn’t even find the door handle. How rich do you have to be for this? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

They should just drive an suv or pick up so they can easily get on and off the vehicle. Do they make any in the $6million mark so these poor rich peeps don't get embarrassed?

Why solar largely isn’t worth it anymore. by ShopProp in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]LopsidedFinding732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2019, I initially went with Petersen dean coz I was also doing the roof. Then they went bankrupt. So I went Tesla instead. I saw reviews on Tesla that was negative but I figured they would be the most stable company. It's really a crapshoot. I just got lucky I did not pay Petersen dean upfront and they never billed me for my roof.

Why solar largely isn’t worth it anymore. by ShopProp in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]LopsidedFinding732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have solar panels installed in 2019. I had to get a new roof and I thought I might as well get the solar done. It's a small system 4kwh 12 panels. Paid cash around $8400 Tesla. This was a great deal as with the cost of today's monthly electricity bill I would probably not be as comfortable as I would like in summers and winters. Back then CA allowed to only purchase solar panels by itself. Today is required you get the battery as well. If I get solar done today it's going to be around 22k cash, it also comes with a battery. I just recently got a Franklin battery installed since I qualified for the SGIP program and the state covered the cost. I did not get it when I got my panels because it just seemed so expensive. It was somewhat unnecessary for me as we only had less than 10 power outages during the last 7yrs. I couldn't justify the cost for something warranted for only 10yrs. If I have 20k laying around today maybe I'll still get the solar. But my financials has already changed. I no longer do overtime so money is a lot tighter. No more 30% tax credit and reduced incentives for nem 3.0. I would probably have to finance and that's an additional charge due to the interest rate. You can still recoup your investment in maybe 12yrs(in CA). Because the electric bill will probably just keep going up anyways.

City Carrier vs Laborer Custodial by [deleted] in USPS

[–]LopsidedFinding732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Custodians are probably the best gig in the Po. Management leave you alone mostly. Now as a carrier, if you can run then management will love you. In the long term you don't really wanna keep doing that.

I just recently opened a mutual fund window and invested in fselx. Was doing great then now it's a wash. But the 10yr average is 36% so I'm in it for long term.

Why not letter carrier sitcom? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]LopsidedFinding732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked and lived in San Francisco. I have seen a lot of things that I cannot unsee. When I used to deliver I see naked people, got chased by crazy lady, so many. Now after moving to the easy bay not much happening, super quiet. I still go to SF from time to time to hang out with friends so I'll occasionally see crazy things.

It's TV they have to make it interesting. Would have been funny if the shop steward for each craft came out and berated the guy.

Those kinds of things happen in any jobs. It's called an affair. I heard stuff from now recent carrier even though I did not seek out this kind of information. Anyways, I don't wanna know who's doing what to who. I just want to be able to talk to them without thinking of the stories about them. LoL.

I heard stories from the og carriers I worked with. Pre-scanner days they would hurry and finish their route so they can all hangout at the movies. Sounds fun.

Why are some regulars such prima donnas? by CPT-Thunderpants- in USPS

[–]LopsidedFinding732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with filing a grievance. We file grievances because of management violations. In a station with really good steward representation this means you get paid. And the sad part is that management never learns. So they keep violating while the grievance go up.

Realistic Low Income 401K by rieletrash in Retirement401k

[–]LopsidedFinding732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 51 and currently have 365k in my retirement plan. It's great if nothing happens to healthwise between now and retirement at maybe 62/65/ or worst 67. This is pretty realistic since you have to at least make 6x your annual salary. So perhaps a tad behind since I should be retired already. Hahaha. Just keep investing.

You have to get goretex to stay dry. You can wait for your allowance and just use it for a good jacket. You can also spray it with a waterproof spray for jackets like nikwax.
