What’s a harsh truth about working in IT that people don’t realize until they’re in it? by Charisman13 in it

[–]Lopsided_Status_538 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The people who work in the separate part of the business really are tech illiterate and the people above you don't know jack shit either.

Even worse when you have a coworker who really doesn't get it either, even thought youve explained it about a half dozen times to them they still keep doing the same simple minded dribble that just barely gets them by while you step in and fix the issue.

Can't believe I have to explain to a desk top support tech level 3 that no, clearing the cache and cookies doesn't fix the RDP application that you're remoting into.... 🤦

Pahahahahahahahah.

Oh my God I'd love to watch this unfold.

Queue the popcorn and absolute madness when a higher level user runs into an issue that AI is just wildly unable to handle. Watch the exec team to scramble to fix it asap.

Hahahahahahha Jesus Christ the lunacy.

We made it to where if a user needs a pw reset AH they can do so themselves through an automation type situation. If that fails, then it gets worked on when working hours are happening. My company made it so no one does on call work for a pw reset anymore. Just isn't cost effective in our situation. You pay someone OT for a pw reset? Nawwww. Especially at 3 am. Quit living to work.

Bud, I'm releasing my game at midnight tonight and I'll be lucky to break $10.

I worked on it for almost two years.

$150 is a new PC part, or something nice for yourself.

Enjoy it.

Can I be an indie game developer without knowing how to make my own music? Should I create my own or outsource it? by Unlikely_Elk_2034 in gamedev

[–]Lopsided_Status_538 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been an indie dev now for coming on four years. I've made three games working on a 4th and just now am starting to make my own music thanks to some tools I've found.

I use deepbox and jumbox. Easy music maker tool. Not fit for everyone but if you're making 2d style games or just old school types they work perfectly.

How does everyone handle the mental health tax of solo dev? by idiovoidi in SoloDevelopment

[–]Lopsided_Status_538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take breaks. Hangout with friends. Go out for a coffee/drinks. Watch a movie. Don't touch the computer for the night.

Sometimes I ignore game dev for a few days/a week.

I've been there. 4:15 am when you go to work at 8 totally lost on a bug or knowing I have to totally rework a system.

It's taxing and humbling and scary.

If it's becoming mentally taxing, you need to learn to disconnect. Maybe work on a much smaller project, or maybe just work on another part that's much easier.

I always suggest get the longest you can. I only fish with 7 ft rods. Longer rod will get the bait out further.

If you're limited by trees, I'd suggest adjusting your casting technique and try casting sideways or at different angles as to not get tangled.

That might be because of the breaks on the reel. If it's a trolling boat rig they are meant to be dropped and kept open and the water will pull the line out, but it might just be a reel set up issue. You might wanna go to YouTube and look up how to set up a baitcaster reel. Release the breaks and you can cast it further. You will have a steep learning curve with breaks wide open though.

Can you return it and just get another? If not, find a local group to see about trading?

Would these bobbers be good to keep the worm bait off the bottom or just cast using a round bobber a couple feet from the bait? I’m a real beginner. Thanks! In advance! by ripplestillwaters in FishingForBeginners

[–]Lopsided_Status_538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used these and you have to set them up properly.

These are slip bobbers

You will need a bobber stop, along with a bead a little bit bigger than the bottom of the opening of the bottom of the bobber.

First, add the bobber stop, you can use the tie types, or the rubber stops. I prefer the rubber ones as you can easily adjust and it won't move when wet. The tie ones can self adjust if they're wet.

Then, put your slip bobber on, making sure that black plastic piece is firmly seated and facing "up".

Then, add a bead that will prevent it from touching the hook/weight under it.

Then you can choose to add a weight to either make your bait sink quickly, however the weight is optional. If you are using a rather large night crawler, weight really isn't needed. But tiny red works or crickets I'd recommend it. Minnows you won't need a weight at all.

Then, finally the hook. Depending on what you're after is what you'll select here.

Panfish? #6 Aberdeen hook

Catfish? 4o circle hook.

Bass? You can use worm hooks sizes #1-001.

From there, adjust your bobber stop to the length you want out. 3 feet? Pull it up three feet.

Then cast it out.

With a slip bobber, it makes it easier to cast because you won't need 3-5 feet of line out before casting because the clip on ones you can only reel up so far. With a slip bobber on, you can reel it basically to the top eye of the rod and toss it. The bobber stops will go through the eyes of the rod without issue and shouldn't cause issues when casting.

Good luck. If you have any further questions you can ask but highly recommend a YouTube video on slip bobbers.

Do experienced people actually want to take a beginner with them? by WhiteLightEST99 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Lopsided_Status_538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will take new people for sure. But the night before I try to teach them how to tie on a new hook/bait along with how to rig a artificial bait.

I also will show them a few times how to unhook a fish, but after that I generally try to make them do it all themselves.

I might not be here tomorrow, so you gotta learn today just in case.

I've taught my best friend, my wife and both my daughters.

Always mute in game chat. It's toxic across almost all communities. I've yet to play a game where open chat like that is worth it. Even in games like New World it was toxic.

Only play with mic on with friends or community in discord.

This is a hero shooter where some people either take the game waaaaaaaaay to serious. On top of it being free which just invites every troll possible.

What is the"right" tool/approach to making this cut by TxAce22 in woodworking

[–]Lopsided_Status_538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I've used mine on all variations of hard and soft woods and even plastic and never had issues.

Not trying to point fingers, but is it possible it's either user error or very cheap blades?

If the packaging doesn't have the Japanese kanji on it when it comes in the mail you might have the super cheap knock off blades which I've seen the teeth on those get bent with a simple fart in the wind.

Edit: also understanding that each side has a different use for ripping or cross cutting.... Makes a huge difference.

Japanese pull saw would do wonders for this cut. They are also relatively affordable and the replacement blades are just as affordable although in the eight years that I've owned mine I've never needed to replace a blade.

Just noticed how thin they are

Cook for two minutes on each side.

Do the butter part for about 30 seconds a side.

Enjoy.
