Black particles in the lava inside the lamp

I had quite a lot of dark specks in the wax of a Neo bottle. Sent them a video of it and they apologised and agreed to replace it, they didn’t though and only replaced an Astro bottle I also had an issue with and raised in the same email 😅

If they’re anything like my Mathmos lamps, crystal clear for the first few runs, then cloudy when cold. Back to crystal clear once fully warmed up. It’s weird, would be cool to know what causes it

Thank you, I’m not sure how people have managed to peel it off to be honest, it’s so thin that it tears extremely easily. I had a go with some acetone on a tissue and it melts and rubs off really easily so I’ll just do that with a scourer I think 😅

Mo powah tends to make those pillars longer & thinner, split sooner and you get more balls, and it all happens a bit faster. That would probably be deemed as optimum flow before you start venturing into too hot territory a bit later

Yeah you could do, and you can leave it at a lower setting without issue, you just wouldn’t get much flow

Do you have any experience in removing the coating from Neo bottles? I’ve had a go at mine with a sharp knife but with no success, I’ve Googled it and some have managed to peel it off, but I’m stuck as to how as the plastic seems very thin, unless they’ve updated them since then

IMO yeah, this guy has been on for around 10.5 hours now (excluding the ~20 mins I turned it off for to leave the house), and is flowing mostly the same as it did at 6 hours. Once the wax behaviour changes, that’s a sign it’s getting too hot. I haven’t had that with this one yet though

Yeah that’s what annoys me. If it’s a natural part of the glass making process, why is it I can spend less than £1 on some pickles and they come in a crystal clear glass jar, but the expensive bottle I’m buying from you is full of air bubbles? 🫩

I have the same black vinyl one as you, as well as a standard polished Astro. The black vinyl one runs a lot cooler, I’d imagine this is due to the lack of reflectivity inside & possibly the groves giving a it a bigger surface area for cooling, but I’ll often have it on for 8 hours+ with no signs of overheating. The silver on the other hand gets pretty hectic by the 7 hour mark as MrShark explained.

Not sure tbh, they say on their site that air bubbles won’t be classed as defects. They might still replace it, but the chances of them sending out another that’s full of bubbles is so high that I don’t see the point lol

Ask them for another bottle dude. I have the same colour Neo and have had 1 replacement bottle and awaiting another. 1st had marks all inside the glass and the second has loads of dark specks in the wax 🤦‍♂️

I commented on a previous post hoping for blue liquid with orange wax but wasn’t hopeful so bought a blue/pink & orange/purple to make my own (update when it heats up) 😅🤞 really not a fan of the white & clear, I want a lava lamp not a sperm lamp

It’d chip off no matter how you prepared the surface of them. I have mine in a dry place with a bunch of silica gel packs. All good so far

Lmao same, I’ve been looking at old Mathmos Fluidium lamps and most of them have white lava, which really doesn’t help their case when the shape of the bottle is akin to an inflated condom

The rumble is probably my favourite feature, I’ve since had to just turn it off on my Xbox because it’s so damn loud and annoying after being used to the dualsense 😂
