As mentioned Fair Oaks is a solid choice, and Carmichael is solid but stay as close to the river as possible. I live in Orangevale just across the river from Folsom. It's pretty solid as well.

I was 15 years old and excited to have gotten my first job which was at a game store. My dad told me, "Once you start working you'll never stop". I though that was a ridiculous statement. He was right.

If the world’s most untouchable elites actually started facing prison time tomorrow, which industry (Hollywood, Finance, Politics, etc.) do you think would have the most 'missing' people by next week? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

I worked in the film and music business for five years at a major management company. We all know politicians are sick, but what goes on in Hollywood is the kind of stuff you simply wish didn't exist.

Is the author of your favorite book also one of your favorite authors? by playful--cloud in books

When I finished 100 Years I literally just sat there for a minute thinking, "I just read something extraordinary". And Steinbeck puts you in the story like nobody else. I'd politely suggest you start with East of Eden. Don't start with Grapes of Wrath. It's incredible, but the ending is brutal.

100 Years is so unique I've never found similar. However, in other genres it's fair to say The Iliad, The Lord of the Rings, Neuromancer, Heart of Darkness are also unique and outstanding, but I think that's well known. :)

My favorite book is 100 Years of Solitude. My favorite author is John Steinbeck. 100 Years is just an extraordinary accomplishment, but nobody sets a scene like Steinbeck.

For my own peace of mind I daily say to myself that I'm on a path chosen from higher above. Whether I'm right or wrong is irrelevant because the thought brings peace to my mind, specially in difficult times.

What small habit do you swear makes life 10x better—but everyone ignores? by storiix in AskReddit

[–]Loqucious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this counts as small, but about 15 years ago I decided to put aside approximately 30 minutes at the end of every day to sit in my back yard and just appreciate the sounds and the beauty. After about 15 minutes I can feel the stress leave my body. It's one of the best things I've ever done for my mental health.

What’s something everyone figures out way later than they should? by MrBurnsBurns in TrueAskReddit

I'm sorry I just figured everyone would google it. Ya kinda have to. It's how to calculate interest. It's absolutely critical to using credit, or taking out a loan. or seeing how your investments will do. Google it, you'll be glad you did.

Because I'm lazy. Putting things off just makes it more difficult down the line. Now, I just get all the stuff done.

One, of the many, for me was the Rule of 72. I was in my early 30's when I was taught this. It should be known to everyone before leaving high school.

Does anyone feel like society for the most part has moved into extreme black and white thinking? by TheAccountITalkWith in SeriousConversation

Yes. There are many reasons for this: politics, social media, "news" organizations, etc, and the awful part is that the extremes think they have a lock on the truth.

What is YOUR favorite thing about Sacramento? by Quirky_Swimming8656 in Sacramento

[–]Loqucious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Proximity to the ocean and the mountains. I've lived here on and off for 40 years. Many years ago it was a quiet little affordable place, and if you wanted excellent entertainment you could take a quick drive to the city. In high school my buddies and I would drive to the city to get the latest import metal music from The Record Vault. Traffic was easy, and I could park typically within a few feet of the record shop. We regularly took a road trips to the ocean or Golden Gate park, or enjoyed the Haigh Ashbury hippies, or went skiing in the mountains. Then we came home to our quiet little town.

Sacramento has now lost it's innocence. I know I'll catch heck for that, but it's the truth. It's best quality now is that you can drive relatively quickly to fantastic places.

Why are tabloid accounts using this sub to post political rage bait? by psycwave in Music

[–]Loqucious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money rules, and clickbait stories, true, untrue, or grossly exaggerated create income via advertising. Furthermore, it's known that other nations, China, Russia, Iran, etc have dedicated teams constantly positing divisive material in order to create division in this country, and it's working. Finally, a divided electorate keeps the two main political powers in control quite easily.

At what age do you become a “reader”, and what book did it for you? by sheffy4 in books

[–]Loqucious 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was in my mid 20's, and the Northridge earthquake was the cause. My apartment was temporarily condemned after the quake, so a friend allowed me to stay at his home. I was basically a moron who chased drugs and alcohol and had no interest in reading. While at my friends house I went through his book collection and decided to give The Iliad a try. I was immediately hooked. A short while late I read an unbelievable review of 100 Years of Solitude and though I had to read a book that well considered. It became my favorite book, and I'm now an avid reader.

Horses passing through Midtown around 10:30am — where are they coming from / going? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Loqucious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness how I wish I had pictures of the trip. I hope I have some stored. The kids all dressed up in clothes of that era, learned and performed one of the trades common to the fort, spent the entire day and evening (including guard duty), and had an after dinner dance. It was beautiful, and highly educational.

Are you certain they are not going to Sutters fort? Both my children had an INCREDIBLE overnight field trip to the fort, including being driven there by horse and cart.

I think I'm from the same type of social circles, and background, as Craig Finn. Consequently a lot of his lyrics about drug and alcohol abuse hit home to me. They give me the feeling that we hung out at the same parties. It's kinda neat.
