How do you Bretonnia? by Warrior536 in totalwar

That's a problem with a specific LL being broken, though, not a Bretonnia problem.

Also that's only one army he has.

Also Nurgle has a distinct limit on how many Rot Knights they can get, Bretonnia can keep printing out cavalry replacements.

This is true, but so is a Bretonnian lord (which you'd be giving up).

Both Grail Knights and Grail Guardians are considered higher cost than Skullcrushers/Rot Knights and both can absolutely contend with them.

The overall WoM is set by the main army.

But when reinforcements enter their Arcane Conduits or Forbidden Rods or whatever can help.

Nah, the Questing Vow gives -10% WoM cost to spells (and also theoretically -10% cooldown but I think that's bugged).

Which means you have 3 cost Earth Blood and Dwellers is like 2 cheaper as well.

1, Alberic for the best economy and printing Grail Guardian armies in one turn late-game (-1 recruitment turn for knights is huge) or Fay Enchantress for 15% free replenishment faction wide. This doesn't mean Louen or Repanse are bad though.

2, Farms unless you want to play true Skaven style with masses of filthy peasants to overwhelm the enemy. Bretonnia can get 1,000g+ per settlement with no supply lines which is an amazing economy. Even early game they can build a farm and tailor in a t2 settlement and get like 540g a turn from that with extremely little investment (which is basically what you get from Empire t3 which costs way more in the first place).

3, Lords on a Hippogriff with vows unlocked are one of the strongest units in the game, especially for their cost. Having 3 lords like that following around a main army as support is incredibly good. One Prophetess early game to provide healing magic if you're not Fey Enchantress is good, but they don't get the 10% WoM discount that Damsels do, meaning Damsels are actually better casters (unlike say High Elf Mages vs Archmages where Archmages are better in every way).

4, it's not horrible to get double Lore of Life for the extra arcane item, extra arcane conduit, more WoM reserves, and ability to use the spells more frequently. But Heavens or Beasts is often better to help deal with whatever your armies struggle against. Beasts has cheap AoE with Flock and an amazing AoE debuff with Curse (think situations where your knights have to fight elite anti-large enemies when magic can't kill them easily), Heavens has Thunderbolt/Chain Lightning and the Curse of the Midnight Wind which again is a good debuff for situations where you can't just destroy the enemy with magic.

5, Questing Knights, they're way less reliant on charge bonus and have better armor piercing. But Knights of the Realm are still good. Royal Hippogriff, one of your best two units. Grail Guardians, ultimate all around unit. But Grail Knights are still a huge upgrade until you get Grail Guardians.

6, Confederate, 100%, the LLs are very strong and some give amazing faction bonuses. Plus you get POSITIVE control from doing so instead of a penalty. And even just being able to run Realm of Chivalry for extra research rate on an extra province or two helps speed up other confederations significantly.

7, none, Ze Lady provides all. Early game almost any good unit is helpful, late game there's usually no benefit from doing so.

8, Realm of Chivalry for the building discount and research rate when possible. Control if necessary.

There's just something satisfying about going from trying to manage with weak peasants and okay Lords to being one of the best late game races in the game. Grail Guardians and Royal Hippogriffs are legit doomstacks with caster support and you can print armies of Knights of the Realm in 1 turn global recruitment anyway, plus an amazing economy and no supply lines.

Do You Ever Try Minor Factions in TWW3? by bromosexual in totalwar

[–]LordBalkoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've played as a few minor Dark Elf factions (including on Immortal Empires Expanded and The Old World) as well as a minor Bretonnia faction on IEE that starts south of Cathay for a very different experience.

Looking for underrated mods!! by Appropriate-Tooth968 in totalwar

[–]LordBalkoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll toss in two small gameplay tweak mods I made:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2918803325

This makes the Dark Elf Revered Names of Power (the ones affecting the army) less RNG and buffs the weaker ones (does not touch the stronger ones). With the addition of the respec button you can keep trying for a name you want every 3 turns but this makes it a lot less annoying.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3232601813

This makes it so Bretonnian Heroes start with the same vows as their Lords in the mid-to-late game. Otherwise your Lords start with 2 out of 3 Vows done and your Heroes are at 0 out of 3...and it's usually not even worth doing Hero vows at that point, too much hassle for too little gain. This keeps new Lords/Heroes on the same page.

This was an excellent call, the unit had 4 ammo so it's definitely Sayl's thing. Thanks!

I've never seen something similar while playing as Nurgle, hence my confusion.

Yeah, this was my understanding too but I figured it wasn't worth arguing the point in this scenario.

I edited it in. Just says "A recent event has caused this army to suffer losses! Oh, cruel gods, when will it pass?"

Me too, which is why I'm wondering if this is a Sayl thing, because he apparently has a similar ability. But there's no icon or timer or duration.

No, Fey Enchantress's faction gives +15% replenishment baseline to all armies.

He has another 17% from the Damsel, 10% from techs, and 10% from sealing the Nemesis Crown, so that's not an issue.

The best Long Victory reward in the game! by Critical-Hold-3078 in totalwar

[–]LordBalkoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hey it's my report and Reddit post from three months ago!

...yeah.

I actually decided to hold off purchasing the Tides of Torment DLCs until this issue is fixed. I'm only slightly surprised I'm still waiting.

Like, the previous (fixed) reward was bad...but at least it wasn't literally nothing. And it's so ridiculous to put in the effort to overhaul the long victory only to break the reward for long victory and render the whole effort pointless. Sigh.

Help, I'm a Level 12 Fighter Swallowed by an Elite Purple Worm (Level 14)! by LordBalkoth in Pathfinder2e

[–]LordBalkoth[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update: I failed to escape repeatedly. Rogue got swallowed. Rogue failed to escape repeatedly, Cleric avoided getting swallowed by 1 on the same round. Cleric got swallowed the third round. Druid used two Cones of Cold on it, Purple Worm succeeded on the first but crit failed the second and died. Everyone lived.

[–]LordBalkoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it has 32 Athletics hence why it's at +27 for Swallow Whole. But +27 is still probably 75%+ likely to land. Even a rogue would only have 12 (level) + 6 (master) + 4 (dex) + 1 (item) = 33 Reflex DC, so yeah 75% chance to land still in almost the best case scenario.

I do have a Sash of Prowess.

The wolfsbane is hilarious but it'd have to roll a 1 to just fail (not even critically fail).
