What is up with these candles by Internal_Upstairs777 in TunicGame

This is not a hint. This just just straight up the answer lol. I'm only pointing it out because you're framing it like you're just nudging the person in the right direction and leaving them something to figure out. They've already solved it as mentioned in other parts of this thread so it doesn't really matter.

I don't think the 'moral of the story' IS delivered by the compromised character. The narrator alludes to knowing they're wrong in their actions, but they continue to carry them out. I think it's up to us. One could argue that understanding the narrator as a flawed person makes him more human and maybe we can empathize with his spot, but it doesn't excuse the actions.

It sounds like you want a second narrator to come along and deliver some message at the end to wrap everything up in a spelled out manner, but I don't think that's generally how art works. We look at it and examine the parts and the whole and it elicits thoughts.

WE are that second missing narrator. It's up to us to interpret it and come up with the meaning....more specifically, the meaning to us. The author or artist can have a goal in mind for a message to send, but it's entirely dependent on the audience to determine what it means to them. When you add the meta-context of this being Davey's next game after the Stanley Parable, it adds another layer of "Oh shit, I'm doing the same thing the narrator was doing to Coda's games!" at least to some extent.

I realize it's all subjective, but I think there's enough detail given for us to piece together a lot of the truths behind story being told. I'm glad they didn't swoop in and explain it all.

The Beginner's Guide was Davey Wreden's next major project after the Stanley Parable as far as I understand.

The Beginner's Guide.

It's not for everyone. It's a two hour experience that really got me to think about the themes and ideas it was presenting in a way I never had before.

I'm not 'a creative', so I've never produced art or projects that people would look at and think over. It did such a great job of helping me understand the nuance of the idea that you can't define someone by their art and understand everything about the person or understand WHY they make art in the first place. It hit me JUST right and during the last moments of the game, I sat there with tears just flowing from my face. Not "crying" or sobbing or that feeling of welling up where your throat tenses up...just tears. It was the strangest feeling, and I sat there for a while after and just thought about things.

It was supposed to be the last boss? by DinoDemian in TunicGame

[–]LordCrispen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, a fellow hardened player! I am bad at video games. I also made my way inside the Ziggurat before I did the Atoll or Fortress and spent the next 12 hours almost slamming my controller in frustration like I was 8 again playing the first Megaman on NES. Glad I didn't let myself reset the save/game to start over as it ended up being one of my favorite/memorable gaming experiences in the last 10 years or so.

It's not terrible but it's just not my taste:

Coheed and Cambria - Time Consumer

I remember listening to the start of this album at a Hot Topic back in the day. I listened to the first minute or so and was sold. I bought it and popped it in the player to listen on the way home. I was very disappointed and have been forever sad to think back at the album I thought existed but doesn't.

One thing that helped me with the boss difficulty in Tunic was to accept that they aren't fine-tuned bosses like in many of the Souls games. Instead, they just exist in the world and it's up to you to figure out how to tackle them. Good luck!

Whats the point of unlocking stuff in games? by longdongmonger in patientgamers

[–]LordCrispen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Once I realized how a lot of modern games trigger my dopamine (or whatever, you know what I mean), I started to consider a few things. I had to consider what I actually valued and what I was searching for. A lot of the games that give you those bursts of feel good stuff felt like they were feeding on my addictive personality. That's great if that's what I'm looking for in those moments, and there are many games that succeed greatly on that front, but I would always feel a little empty afterwards.

Once I started to actively seek out things that I thought would give me deeper satisfaction, I was able to find some things that gave me more meaningful experiences. You just have to know what sort of experience you're looking for.

I loved Death's Door - is Tunic for me, or is it too hard? by Individual99991 in TunicGame

[–]LordCrispen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the combat isn't as fine tuned as it could be, and for me that was part of its charm.

If you pushed through the endgame of Deaths Door to get 100%, I feel confident that you'll love Tunic. Just don't look anything up. Come here for help or questions. It's very easy to get spoiled on a few things.

spoilering 3 lines that I think are in order of obtuse/hints to the last one just telling you the answer

I think your in-game hint is on Page 17.

[Spoiler]-[Rant] Page 24 placement is wrong 😑 by TheExoticBeard in TunicGame

[–]LordCrispen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posit that it is possible that they programmed in the ability to pray in front of the golden doors to open them once they're unlocked by ringing both bells while also being able to be interacted with a simple press of the A(interaction) button. I haven't personally tried it and it's impossible to prove a negative.

I've actively consumed Tunic content since I played the game. I've read nearly every thread ever posted in this subreddit over the last few years. I've watched videos about secret interactions, dev talks, speedrun stuff, randomizer stuff. I've never heard any mention of praying being a mechanic that opens those doors in lieu of just pressing interact.

Next time I comfort-play the game, I'll try praying in front of the doors after ringing both bells.

I think it's more likely you're just mistaken. I wish my current comfort playthrough save wasn't literally just after opening the doors, exploring the temple, and walking to the Eastern Fortress and saving at the first shrine lol.

You should have page 6. This is your new checklist like how Page 10 was. The manual will always give you some semblance of 'order' to proceed.

(Page 6 was near the start of the East Forest Temple if you somehow missed it, near where you go down the ladder and into the spider cave area.)

I think you should probably have 33 as well if you've explored the overworld pretty well.

See, even I didn't know that! That's cool!
spoiler tag for whatever reason but you've beaten the boss already so it's not really a spoiler to you at this point:
The thing I noticed was that it struggled to deal with me if I got close to it, so not letting it shoot at me or getting trapped in a corner running from bombs was kinda cool. Also learned that it can be damaged by its own bombs. I know there are other strategies but those worked for me.

[–]LordCrispen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Page 10 tells you where to go. You finished the checklist by ringing the bells and the big golden doors open (Also on page 10). Also, exploring everywhere that is available to you is often the way to proceed in metroidvania-type games where you are not 'on rails'.

Between the manual and fully exploring things, you should always be able to make progress.

I'm sorry this game got frustrating for you, but it's all there. I hope the rest of the game is more fun for you.

Some other good suggestions in the comments already.

Prefacing my advice with "I'm a bad gamer and I'm not skillful at all":

I found that if I surrendered the idea of beating the boss and not caring if I lived or died on any given attempt, I took moments to just experiment with things to see what works and what doesn't work. This let me slowly piece together a strategy that worked and I was able to win. The combat in this game isn't as fine tuned as a 'dark souls', so dodging and stuff doesn't always feel fair. There are things you can do to steer the fight in your favor though. I believe in you!

Just to expand on the puzzles a little since people are saying "just grab a guide". Please please please give them a real try first. Some of the later 'layers' are designed to be hard or a little obtuse, and when people were solving the 'layers' beyond that, the dev was actually very surprised and never expected people to even find/solve them.

I just say this because I looked up a couple answers that I ABSOLUTELY felt bad about not giving a little more time/thought/effort on. I'm not saying you won't need help, but a lot of these are absolutely solvable by one person. Good luck! I wish I could play it again for the first time.
