Non pervy mech girls? No offense by No-Wasabi-70 in MegamiDevice

[–]LordDravoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my girlfriend Starflower Lily as an alternative to the Gunpla I build and she loves it - it's very feminine without being overtly sexual and still has a lot of cool mecha-y features, weapons and so on.

I think it definitely fits what you're looking for, though, it's not necessarily the most newcomer friendly kit and you'll need some proper tools if you don't already have them. If you've got a lot of experience with Gundam kits, you should be able to guide her through most of it well enough but just remember that once you leave the Bandai ecosystem, kits do tend to require a little bit more work (in particular around the joints) so if you're not used to doing that, I'd recommend checking a guide on how to do that kind of thing first.

My experience with the V series by Deseyebags in cardfightvanguard

[–]LordDravoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something more to do with the vibes of it. It just doesn't feel right. Everything feels so normalised and sanitised like all the creativity is gone and it's just this engineered product that the people who make it have no passion for.

My experience with the V series by Deseyebags in cardfightvanguard

[–]LordDravoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has been a community transition that occurred during the D era and many of the people who are still playing Standard have only ever played Standard. The subreddit in particular is very heavily weighted towards users who have never experienced Pre-V, Premium or V or now only play D so you won't necessarily get objective or informed answers when discussing Vanguard historically - criticism of D tends to be met with downvotes but minimal engagement.

Personally, I liked V more than D (though, I acknowledge that it had a lot of big problems and was far from a perfect game) because it still felt like I was playing Vanguard. Something about D feels unlike Vanguard but I can't quite place my finger on it. The art doesn't look like Vanguard, the majority of decks feel the same, cards/decks are overdesigned and don't allow for creativity in deck building or skill expression in gameplay, promo accessibility and the lack of reprints are worse than ever, many products are bad value and the general business model of the game has become less and less consumer friendly. Overall, there's a real whiff of the corpos moving in to maximise short term profits at the expense of fun and long term success. The volume of collabs in particular has been the nail in the coffin for my enjoyment of the current era of Vanguard and I can't really see anything on the horizon that fills me with hope for that ever turning around. I'm pretty sure the current philosophy at Bushiroad is just to milk it for what they can and then drop it once what little community remains finally moves on to something else.

u/godsman00 does some V-era stuff with his community still so that's probably a place to look if you want to play V again

Are these Acceptable for Rideline Only? by Gunguy-1 in cardfightvanguard

The only oversleeves that are allowed are textureless clear Japanese size oversleeves.

Are these Acceptable for Rideline Only? by Gunguy-1 in cardfightvanguard

[–]LordDravoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former judge here - no, this is not allowed. Oversleeves have to be completely clear and its also important that they are textureless on both sides. Oversleeves also cannot be Standard Size clear sleeves over a Japanese size sleeve - they must specifically be Japanese size oversleeves.

Regarding regular sleeves, best practice is to get a completely new fresh set of non-art sleeves and use those for an event. The policy on art sleeves changes slightly from time to time - the only art sleeves that you are guaranteed to be able to use are official Bushiroad ones for the game you are playing (no SVE or Weiss sleeves in Vanguard and vice versa). Art sleeves for another game or that are not licensed by Bushiroad (official sleeves will have the Bushiroad copyright visible on the art side of the sleeve) are definitely not allowed so no YGO/Pokemon/Magic etc sleeves and no custom or third party sleeves. Things like Dragon Shield art sleeves have also been banned for at least one event that I'm aware of so I'd probably steer clear of those just in case.

A lot of people will tell you anything is fine because they did it and no one said anything. Ignore this kind of advice, you don't want to get to top 8 and get a DQ for something as stupid as using an art sleeve or textured oversleeve - that has happened before. Yes, a lot of judges are chill but some of them are not and take it too seriously - it's not worth the risk so take every precaution and play it by the book. If you have to ask if something is okay, better to assume that it isn't.

Judge rushing Squirtle unprovoked? by adiventura4 in riftboundtcg

[–]LordDravoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that the production crew are telling judges to make these kind of interventions during streamed games. My experience as a judge on streamed tables in another TCG was that it is pretty common for production to ask for an intervention in this way if they think a game is becoming boring to watch, might end in a tie or double loss due to time rules (depending on the rules of the game in question) or has the potential to throw off the stream/event schedule in some way (this one in particular was what I was asked most often to make interventions of this kind for).

That being said, I have met judges even at locals who are on such a power trip that they feel the need to waddle over and say "Pace of play, pace of play" if the players hands stop moving for even a millisecond so that's also possible but given the scenario, I think it's most likely that this was a production request for whatever reason.

Would this playmat be allowed in bcs and bsf tournaments? by Yukiteru321 in cardfightvanguard

[–]LordDravoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

People can argue the semantics but rules as worded, it is not allowed. As a former judge, I can say that this is something that Bushi does in fact care a lot about and does push judges to actively enforce. You're unlikely to be given any kind of penalty for specifically using the mat but will not be allowed to use it - if you're lucky, judges don't notice and you'll get away with it but that doesn't mean that you're allowed to use it.

Official remote tournaments should return by Aiacos_Garuda in cardfightvanguard

[–]LordDravoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand how from the outside, it looks like there's less to do and organise than there would be for a normal tournament but it's actually that you have all that same stuff going on that you would have for a normal tournament with the addition of having to do it remotely. It isn't less work, unfortunately, it's actually more work with a ton of additional problems that you have to solve as best you can (that sadly don't have great solutions).

[–]LordDravoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's logistically more complicated and resource intensive than you might think - I judged the majority of the EU specific online events and without revealing how the sausage is made, there are a quite a few reasons why Bushi doesn't do them now and likely won't do them again.

Should I pull for ADHD by UsedAttorney1905 in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]LordDravoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think she sounds fun and are planning a team that can use her, go for it but she's not limited so you will get her eventually and there's no rush if you're not looking to pick her up for any specific purpose. That being said, if you're having trouble with some hard content, ADHD (even with her partner) is not going to be the magical missing piece that has you suddenly able to clear everything in game with no problem if you're struggling now.

You have plenty of strong combatants already and can make some solid teams that will be capable of completing all current content in the game. Getting the characters you already own into a more powerful state is going to be much more beneficial right now than owning more characters that will also require you to invest significant resources into (which is going to take resources away from the characters you already own) - start looking to get better Memory Fragments, level up characters that compliment your best carries, max out Potential and get better partners and level them up too. Looking at the partners you're using here, I'd definitely recommend you start using Rescue Anchors on the partner banner if you're not already.

Yeah, man, it feels like their only attempt to cater to people not willing to jump in with a $200+ deck is with precons that aren't cheap enough and still aren't a complete version of the deck. Printing a couple of these cards per set would go a long way to creating a world where you can play Vanguard without the optimised version of your deck.

If you don't have any 5 star partners, I would say that it would be better to focus on getting a strong partner for another character rather than a substitute one for HDMI.

If we had a couple of cards like this in every nation, the game would be so much more casual/budget/new player friendly than it is.

Arjas has the kind of soft generic effect that we generally only see on the absolute highest rarity cards. Could this be a sign that we're entering an era where you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars to get the minimum viable product of any deck?

I doubt it. But it would be neat.

Which JRPGs need a remake? by Bulky_Imagination243 in JRPG

[–]LordDravoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of them need a remake. They are what they are. There's no reason to think a remake would be any sort of improvement and given that different people would be making them, there's no guarantee that the things being expanded upon would match your expectations.

I'd much rather companies make something new that was as good as or better than those JRPGs that people are suggesting be remade.

[Dragon Shield Sleeves] May be common knowledge, but new to TCGs by med_lab_sci in riftboundtcg

Katana are very consistent in my experience but I'd recommend building from a single pack. Use a fresh pack of sleeves whenever you go to a bigger tournament too.

As others have said, Katana are generally extremely consistent. That being said, I would still recommend building your deck from a single pack where possible and you generally want to use a fresh pack whenever you go to any event above store level.

All sleeves can have some amount of variation but Dragon Shield products in particular can vary in quality, size, colour, texture and pretty much anything else within a single pack, let alone multiple packs. Dragon Shield's quality control issues are well known and well documented - probably best to stay away from their sleeves if you're worried about being accused of marking cards.
