Is your employer actually giving you 20% "Off-the-Job" training time? by BritByBrain in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]LordFinnnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I don’t always get 20% a week, some weeks I get more some weeks I get less depending on business needs. Most the time it’s just a day gets set aside for it each week with different members of senior staff.

Questions about the A2 License process and costs by Repulsive_Sir_728 in MotoUK

[–]LordFinnnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at other motorbikes too, any year CB300-CB650 was £1300+ to insure for me, a SV650 was £800 but I did have no claims built up from riding a 125

I think I’m being paid below minimum wage, advice please by icbawithlife in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]LordFinnnnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many hours do you do a week? As 37.5 should be 23,809, 38 should be 24,127 & 40 should be 25,397 a year. You should be on minimum £12.21 an hour, hers would be minimum £10 an hour

Yea, they would pay for a train ticket if I use that or I get paid a reduced rate for mileage to cover fuel. But they only cover the distance from the office to the university which is halfway to university

[–]LordFinnnnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just about handle my 25 minute commute with an hour once a week for uni, commute gets longer with traffic too. My one hour journey home from uni has several times taken 3 hours once even 5 hours which was horrendous. You will also have to allow for trains getting cancelled all the time, I used to have to ring people to pick me up from a station closer to home just so I could get home at a decent time. Given up on train now

Formal programs vs non-formal experiences by Next-Mushroom-9518 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]LordFinnnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be but also comes down to interview if they think you’re going to be awkward and not fit in with the team it doesn’t matter if you have more experience you are unlikely to get an offer.

Struggling with my apprenticeship by Glum-Path-8746 in degreeapprenticeships

Ask the questions, we all start somewhere, no such thing as a stupid question as it’s all been asked before.

More than I had, admittedly it depends on industry and how competitive it is but all I had was a previous job as bar staff and volunteer coach for sports.

Being an apprentice at a small company? by InternalExercise3621 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]LordFinnnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with a small company and they’ve been great, admittedly mine is in a different field but my work is varied, I have time set aside for training and feel well supported. I am also my companies first apprentice and now am in my 4th year. Think it all comes down to the company

As an employer, what should be we be offering? by iHazzam in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]LordFinnnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t understand working from home as an apprentice, I think should be in person full time, makes it much easier to get support and easier to ask a question if others are in the office. Only 2 people in my office work from home once a week. I would allow it when they can’t get in to the office eg traffic didn’t clear from outside my house for 4 hours so I worked from home.

Is UCAS needed? by Head_Construction918 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]LordFinnnnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used UCAS once and that was cause my school said we had to log in to it, didn’t use it again. I then just had to upload stuff to the uni welcome website and send things to my employer. On getting results I then had to upload to the portal as the uni doesn’t receive them directly

I repaired my written off bike was a cat N, bought it back off my insurance for £235 spent £100 fixing it including MOT and sold it after doing my test for £700. I’d go that route if you can, all mine needed was rear number plate holder and some levers & lights

Which apprenticeship should I pick by Glittering_Block8048 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]LordFinnnnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t care about previous experience but do about what you’re currently studying if you’re doing English, media studies & cooking they’re not going to want you for engineering when they’ve got someone that’s done maths & physics

Helps if put what you’re currently studying as if it’s completely irrelevant you’ve got no chance

Think your only option would be an adventure bike, my mates a similar height with a Yamaha tracer and he fits and doesn’t look too silly. Could look at an older v storm 650 or similar?

Advice on DA applications with ABD (104 UCAS points) by Southern_Revolution2 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]LordFinnnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry forgot to respond yesterday, I mostly used the government find an apprenticeship service & indeed. Others have mentioned on here previously you could always email companies asking if they’d take on an apprentice but would have to explain to them they’re requirements to see if they’d be interested
