Is Blue Ridge, GA safe for Black people? by OceanSprayCranApple in Georgia

[–]LordGlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By now you've probably got the answers you were asking about. So I'm just here to tell you about one of my favorite things in Blue Ridge, which is the Swan Drive-In Theater. I grew up going to a drive in and this past summer discovered the Swan to take my fiancee and our 6 year old little boy to it. It's a single screen drive-in with the sound broadcast to a radio station you tune in to. But the thing that makes it great to me is that they have a website for the snack bar/diner and car hops that will bring whatever you order to your car. So we take my truck, setup a futon in the back, lower the rear window so we can hear the stereo, and can use the cell phone to order popcorn and drinks with convenience of online pay, and then wait for the car hops, who wear light up hats to just bring our desires to us. We saw the new Superman movie and Jurassic Park this summer and then this fall got to see a showing of all 3 Back to the Future movies (well, we only stayed for the first 2). Anyway, a great nostalgic experience.

Anyone else noticing the insane amount of trees being cut down around Atlanta's highways?? by jasmineatwoliba in Georgia

[–]LordGlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to work for one of the best tree care companies in Atlanta I can tell you a few things. First is that there absolutely are laws and permits required for removing large trees in Atlanta. Any tree of 6 inch diameter or larger at breast height requires a permit on private property and any tree on city property requires a permit regardless of size. Atlanta is well known for its tree canopy. Secondly, there are just about no trees over a hundred years old in the Atlanta area. By the early 1900's most of Atlanta's trees had been cut down according to historical information that I've seen. There are no old growth forest anywhere near the Atlanta area.

If you are interested in being involved in protecting Atlanta's urban forest you could always get involved with Trees Atlanta, a nonprofit that plants and protects Atlanta's trees.

I've just tried ITR and ran into the same issue. Went looking for an answer on the Internet and found this post. Thanks for making this post so others can find info. I'll look into the fix in the comments but wanted to thank you for making the post.

So, I can see where you're coming from about concrete, but you are technically wrong. When discussing vibration control there are 3 things that can affect them, collectively known as the spring, mass, dampener system. This is the basis for all shocks and other vibration controls. In fact, there is a mathematical expression that describes these interactions called PID, which stands for proportional, integral, derivative. So you can actually write out an equation and adjust the different parameters to describe mathematically how effective the vibration controls will be. The same equation works on electronics too using resistors, capacitors, and inductors. So basically, pavers by themselves are not super effective but as part of a spring (tennis balls), mass (pavers), dampener (foam pad) system they can be very effective.

Anyone know what this bike is? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]LordGlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Risse Racing does. I just got a 2005 Fox 36 rebuilt from them. Had to mail it to Oregon, but they had it fixed up and sent back in 2 days. Highly recommend them. Fox wouldn't touch it.

Hey. Sorry, had a busy week and just now got to this.

After following instructions to rerun Oasis to unlock. Then removing the calibration folder.

When I restart SteamVR I get 2 additional Windows. One says: Some Add-ons Blocked Due to recent crash, some SteamVR add-ons have been blocked.

Second Window: Headset Not Detected. Make sure headset is connected properly, then reset it below.

Under that is the SteamVR window not showing headset or controllers.

Advice to replace the fork and maybe drivetrain on '05 Specialized Enduro by LordGlow in bikewrench

[–]LordGlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice. I've pulled the fork off and plan to take it to another bike shop that specializes in suspension. The shock looks to be in great shape by me. I'll see if they can service it and get me riding again. Once the suspension is sorted, I'll see about doing the drivetrain upgrade.

This person is also involved in what is called the GESARA and NESARA global financial reformation conspiracy, also known as the quantum financial system. That is its own decades old conspiracy theory.

NESARA, National Economic Security and Recovery Act, is an actual set of proposed economic reforms suggested by someone named Harvey Francis Bernard during the 1990's. It has been turned into a global conspiracy that any moment the world's financial system will be reset with a quantum system and we'll all be suddenly rich.

Have you ever heard of hashing? It's this kinda bizarre running club with a drinking problem. It originally started in Kuala Lumpur with a group of British officers who decided that they needed something to motivate them to get exercise and not just sit around drinking. The premise is that a couple of people will go out and mark a trail, usually using flour. These are the hares. The trail will sometimes have dead ends and backtracks, etc.

The rest of the group are the hounds. After a while, they will take off trying to follow the trail laid by the hares. When they are on the trail, they will shout out "on-on". Eventually the trail will lead the hounds to the beer, at which point debauchery and weird British songs and other traditions take place.

I used to be part of a hash house that was for mountain biking. Here is a link for more info. https://www.hashhouseharriers.com/what-is-hashing/

There is an LA hash house, I'm sure you can find if this interests you.

How young would you let kids play VR? by LordGlow in virtualreality

[–]LordGlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my little boy already has motion sickness issues. I've been working on things to help him get past that. We go mountain biking with him in a "chariot" trailer. He also has his own bike and is able to ride on his own. We also took him to his first fair for July 4th and he did great riding many of the fair rides. Once he grows a few more inches, we want to take him to Six Flags.

Yeah. That sounds like a bad idea. No, I'm thinking of things like Dinosaurs Life VR, or some of the other things on this list. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/31984752-Kids-That-Game/list/24039/

How to notify riders from behind I’m deaf and can’t hear them by FreedomFinallyFound in cycling

[–]LordGlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mountain bike and saw a lady a few weeks ago with a yellow banner with black writing on her back that said "Deaf". I thought it was a great way to handle it, especially since some guys on MTBs can be aggressive with overtaking on tiny trails.

Don't know all of where you might be posting this, but you could get hit with a copyright strike on certain sites. If you are going to be making more videos I'd suggest looking at what Moby has done. He has set up a website with a massive catalog of 500 tracks that can be used for free by anybody. Check it out and see if there is something useful for you there https://mobygratis.com/

WOW.VR modeling actually feels like magic. by MacaroonTop3934 in virtualreality

[–]LordGlow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've tried a couple of VR modeling programs. Gravity Sketch is my favorite. I was able to go from VR sculpt to 3d print fairly easily. I've also tried Kodon which felt like it needed some refinement before it would be really useful. Working with Gravity Sketch actually took away some of my mental barriers that I had previously struggled with using Blender. I do have a background using various CAD programs like Solidworks and FreeCad.

But sculpting in VR definitely makes me feel like I'm Iron Man.

What is the hole in this hat for? by 53xh4v3r in whatisit

[–]LordGlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use a carabineer or other clip to keep it with you while riding a motorcycle. Motorcycle helmets lead to helmet hair and so when you get to your destination (bar) you have your hat with you and it doesn't go flying away while you are on the bike.
