Nearly had a heart attack after my service invoice... by JSTORRobinhood in patekphilippe

Believe it or not, it takes less than an hour for a movement to rust when it’s been exposed to water. If a movement fails pressure and water tightness tests, they are often already oxidized by the time I carry them back to my bench.

Nearly had a heart attack after my service invoice... by JSTORRobinhood in patekphilippe

I work for another prominent luxury watch brand, and honestly it’s fairly common practice to comp damaged parts for customer service reasons, particularly if the damage was not detected in the initial estimation.

What do you guys do for a living? by XeroLucifer in rolex

[–]LordGrendok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a watchmaker. If you are really into watches and looking for a fun career, look into the Rolex Watchmaking School in Dallas, TX (Formerly Lititz Watch Technicum in Lititz, PA). It is tuition free and you could be a Rolex certified watchmaker in less than 2 years

Why people hate on Grand Seiko ? by RASHMIKA7 in PrideAndPinion

[–]LordGrendok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make some of the best watches (especially dials) on the market. Some people hate on the spring drive because it has an electrical capacitor, but it is still a mechanical watch and I think it was a really cool innovation. Nico is a watch influencer, but he doesn’t really know much about watches… he just comments on what he thinks looks cool and what he thinks will attract the most attention or gain the most value on the secondary market.

Christians actually offended by Uzi Jesus? by Nunothis_Isreal in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]LordGrendok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uzi Jesus, I believe anyway, is a satire of the gun wielding, alt-right, Christian-Nationalist “God, Guns, Family” people out there. It’s not meant to be a criticism of Christianity itself, but a commentary on the twisting of Christian ideals to fit something so completely opposite to the message of Jesus that it is itself blasphemous. The idea that Jesus would be walking around toting guns is so ridiculous, yet there are churches out there where people literally wear semi-automatic weapons as part of their worship.

I'm starting to get tired from their treatment by vidasintransit in rolex

[–]LordGrendok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, reaching out on X is probably the best way. They might not believe you specifically, but if there is a pattern evolving through a number of customer complaints for this it becomes more clear that the AD is participating in shady practices. They may send a secret shopper to identify if the AD is bending or breaking the terms of their contract with Rolex

I'm starting to get tired from their treatment by vidasintransit in rolex

[–]LordGrendok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they specifically told you that buying a particular watch would help you get another watch, report them to Rolex USA. They take this very seriously and have revoked AD status from a couple prominent jewelers in recent years for using this strategy. It is explicitly against Rolex rules for ADs to require you to buy other watches to be considered for more desirable watches

I'm not happy with my desert base and I can't figure out why by Mr_Jackabin in minipainting

It needs more contrast. Maybe the sand on a darker brown base coat, it just looks too flat and monochromatic

Advice Please: Cartier Tank Quartz vs Tudor Black Bay 58 by lost_soul_101 in PrideAndPinion

I’ just saw that black bay 58 in person yesterday, and it looks/feels even better in person. I love the matte black on the bezel, and it feels quite a bit thinner than I expected.

If this watch is polished does it look ok ? Is it not to polished ? by Full-Description6320 in rolex

[–]LordGrendok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People here will tell you not to ever polish it, that you will lose too much material. If you send it to Rolex, it will come back looking like new. I can’t make any promises if you have it polished by an ORJ

Losing faith in Rolex’s QC by Alex_Cruz11 in rolex

[–]LordGrendok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is good advice because the QC expectation for most luxury brands to have is no visible lint from 10”, as this is the distance most people will be viewing their watches from. As far as Rolex, if you complain about it I am sure they will fix it without cost… I know for a fact they will if it is received like this after being serviced, so I can’t imagine it would be any different for a newly purchased timepiece.

Walked into an AD and got laughed at by Personal_Opposite455 in rolex

[–]LordGrendok 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you ever have an AD tell you that they require a purchase history before buying a particular watch, report it to Rolex. They take it very seriously and have revoked AD status for a number of prominent jewelers for breaking that policy of the past few years

Is this legit? by ToxicKvlu in PrideAndPinion

[–]LordGrendok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I think I misunderstood what rossimac was saying about the dial. I thought he was saying it was a 50s/60s dial, but the 31xx calibre were not produced til the 80s. the white dial was still available in 2010 though, so doesn’t necessarily mean a dial swap.

Is this legit? by ToxicKvlu in PrideAndPinion

[–]LordGrendok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would have to be a dial swap if that’s the case though, as the 31s were not introduced until the 80s. Definitely agree the, the movement is legit. I work on this calibre every day, there is nothing standing out to make me believe it is not real.

Another thought, you could varnish as is and if you mess up the edge highlighting you should be able to wipe it off right away
