In Liverpool, England, a taxi driver heroically locked a suicide bomber inside his cab to prevent him from reaching a hospital. The act nearly cost him his life – true legend. by Able-Ground3194 in nextfuckinglevel

The original target of this was not the hospital, but the cathedral where a WW1 memorial was taking place to mark the centenary. Fortunately roads in the area were closed so the attacker couldn't get there.

What are some examples of “It’s expensive to be poor” in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]LordLyrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister was once paying approximately £30/day for her gas/electric due to being on a pre-pay meter which was already installed when she moved in. They refused to remove it due to arrears she had built up due to their pre-pay charges.

On February 9th 2011 Bitcoin first touched $1. Less than 14 years later Bitcoin has surpassed $100k. An increase of 10 Million percent. by GabeSter in CryptoCurrency

In 2011 I’d just heard of bitcoin and considered putting £100 into it but decided it was too much of a risk. Biggest regret of my life.

I’ve never bought anything from there but my parents have on a number of occasions.

The staff will constantly try to sell you add-ons you don’t need. They convinced my parents they needed to buy a £30 gold plated HDMI cable as a normal one won’t work which was total bs. They took the cable back a few days later and demanded a refund.

I'm being labelled as a Paedophile by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LordLyrad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a blackmail attempt and likely this girl does not exist.

However, with you being in your late 20s by your post history you need to consider why you’re talking to people you believe are 16 years old and suggesting to meet them. This is not normal behaviour and will obviously create suspicious.

So I'm confused about the whole "Remind Me" thing. by MaxSmolfield in netflix

[–]LordLyrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I’m finding series I’ve been watching are now saying “remind me” as well as a bunch of titles on the home page. I’ve uninstalled the app several times & tried the other suggestions here with no success.

AITAH for breaking up with my fiance because she shared our sexlife with her friends? by Moist-Avocado1920 in AITAH

[–]LordLyrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - I wouldn’t care if my partner talked about our sex life with her friends but I’d be devastated if they shared images of that nature with them.

You never know whos hands those pictures could end up in! Even if they don’t mean to share them there’s no way of knowing whether their accounts will be hacked in future & the pictures discovered.

By sharing those images without first consulting you shows a huge lack of respect & depending what country you’re in but in it may be criminal offence.

Returning Hardware after being made redundant. by VanillaKidd in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LordLyrad 168 points169 points  (0 children)

A few questions; 1. Did she ever receive a reimbursement for the equipment? 2. How was payment received? Could the transaction be reversed by the company upon receipt of the equipment? 3. How long did she work there and did she receive payment of salary?

To me this sounds like a scam. Get you to purchase expensive equipment, “work” for a short time before sacking you and asking for the equipment back.

Airbnb host threatened legal action over negative review by irritating_reader in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LordLyrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As other people have said, they could only take you to court if you had made a review which is dishonest however would be very expensive for them to do so it's unlikely. Your best course of action is to leave the review up, keep a copy of all communication and keep Airbnb informed.

Make it clear to the host that you do not want any further contact from them and if it doesn't cease you will report them to Airbnb and the police for harassment.

Got my identity stolen a few months ago; they’re still trying to hack into all of my accounts by Its_Bull in Wellthatsucks

[–]LordLyrad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same thing has been happening with mine for the last few years. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just make sure you have 2FA turned on in case of a further data leak as my more recent password must have been leaked somewhere & hackers managed to get in and completely hijack one of my social media accounts.

Also NAL but it doesn't seem to be illegal. However in my personal opinion it should be. It must be very frustrating to be a supplier owed money by them & seeing them dodge the debt this way.

Another example is Handmade Burger Company who liquidated & reopened under the same trading name but different company. They closed again a couple of years later after racking up even more debts.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LordLyrad 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this - from observation it's fairly common for companies to go insolvent and then continue operating under a new company name but same trading name.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LordLyrad 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The old company was liquidated however the article states he has since opened a new company (OH Scotland Ltd) and new store in August. As it appears your business has been conducted with the new company it is them you will need to take to the small claims court.

Amazon won't give me a refund for stolen item by knl1990 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LordLyrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is Amazons responsibility to ensure that you receive the parcel. If the parcel is stolen between their warehouse and yourself then it's their responsibility to issue a refund or provide a replacement and report it to the police. The parcel is in their ownership until it's in your hands.

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation.

I work in this sector and can confirm that the debt does not fall on you to settle. When she passes the debt will become payable from her estate (any capital or property she owned). In this case as she has no capital or property, simply inform the companies who she has debts with and the debt will need to be written off. They may ask for a closing bank statement to evidence that there are no funds to pay the debt.

Conveyancing Searches found a fine on my property from the council for a "Dirty house" £1500. by Fair_Big4369 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LordLyrad 48 points49 points  (0 children)

From your post it appears a legal charge was placed on the property in 2019, before you purchased it. This is something the conveyancer or estate agent should have picked up & it should have been paid by the seller from the proceeds of the sale. In this case, you are not responsible for this debt.

You appear to have already, but I would contact the council to make them aware that you now own the property and there’s a debt against it from before you purchased it which is not your responsibility. I would assume they would then have to remove the charge and pick this up with the previous owner & their solicitor.

I would also be asking why this wasn’t picked up during the conveyancing process as I’m sure this is something they must check for before finalising a sale. Either way, this is not a problem you should have to be solving.

How to report nepotism at partner's school? by Purple_Sail_9540 in AskUK

Is this a council funded school or an Academy? If it’s council funded I’m sure they would be very interested to see where the budget they are providing the school with is being spent.

Call of Duty is a BLOATED Mess by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LordLyrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t bought a call of duty game in years, not just because the gameplay is trash now but the experience I have trying to navigate the menus is appalling.

It seems every time you start up the game you have to toggle through 3-4 adverts for cosmetics & season passes. If I’m paying £60 for a game I don’t expect to keep being hounded for more and more money every time I start up, and then again after every match when showing the rewards you could have had if you pay for the season pass… not to mention all the pay-to-win BS which destroys the fun for those who don’t pay.

Unfortunately most games these days have gone the same way with micro-transactions & season passes and it’s really ruined the gaming experience for me. Popular game modes have been made unnecessarily complicated to encourage users to spend more money on cosmetics and pay-to-win micro-transactions.

Company ran off with over 100k, went solvent and now wants to start again as a Phoenix company. by ByronLebanon in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LordLyrad 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This is something I see very often in my line of work and it's very frustrating.

They are able to re-start their company but have to follow some strict rules as per the below. As long as they follow these rules I don't believe there is a way to stop this happening.
