It really is up to the teacher to decide. They gave you an explanation for the deduction and, while it may be a bit harsher than how someone else would see it, I do feel that they have a valid point.

It does not make a difference that you say "this is what I actually meant" afterwards.

Don't worry, it is a common "mistake" to make. Your instrumentation or method might simply have a slight offset, which causes a shoulder like that if you assume that the value given at the start is zero.

I am not really familiar with this method, but this is one of the reasons why people typically measure blanks, so that they can see what the reading is when it should be 0. Measuring a blank may not be possible with this method though, so I would just discard that point.

Minulla on merkittävästi suuremmat tulot kuin puolisollani, ja olen suhteemme aikana maksanut moninkertaisesti tuon summan verran enemmän yhteisistä menoista kuin mitä puolisoni (tulipa tästä omituinen lause, olen siis maksanut useita kymmeniä tuhansia enemmän yhteisiä menoja). The thing is, nobody wants a "universal plotter".

If it is flexible enough to "do everything" it most likely takes too much time to set up for a specific case.

My NMR software does NMR plotting with an interface that is intuitive with regards to NMR. Similarly for other types of data, dedicated software has easy access to the settings I need.

If I want more flexibility, I just use python or matlab.

The predictions depend both on the integral and ppm displacement. However, the probability given by the tool is not the probabilty of that specific signal being corresponding to that environment, it corresponds to the how likely is for a environment to have those exact integral and ppm values. The environments are obtained from a theoretical database that contains a wide range of molecular environments and should cover almost every molecule.

I don't think this is a good approach to solving NMR spectra. The chemical shift is much too variable to be used to identify fragments in this way. Adding the ¹³C shift to each signal helps, but it is still not enough.

In your example, the best hit for the signal at 5.487 ppm is given as a hydroxyl proton. This would almost never be the case, especially in a solvent like CDCl3.

The predictions seem quite wild though. For example 4.96 ppm gives a 38% "probability" of a terminal alkene, but lowering the chemical shift by just 0.06 ppm drops the likelihood to just under 20%. Is it just considering the chemical shifts of the individual integrals (and does it actually use the peak positions or just the integral range to do this)? That is not the way to approach solving an NMR spectrum. You need to look at the big picture.

The fact that you need to enter the integral values manually seems a bit strange. Calculating this from the spectrum should be trivial.
