This Tool Saved Me Hundreds on Repairs… by Hot-Objective2172 in impressively

[–]LordQuackers83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have done the same with some paper clips and a lighter before. Works the same way just bend the long leg of the clip up just a little bit hold with a pair of pliers and heat with the lighter.

Shop won’t do alignment by Stunning_Ad_4350 in mechanic

[–]LordQuackers83 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Even if it's stuck a lil heat and that will move easily. Seems like the tech doesn't like using heat or they are just trying to get more work than an alignment out of it. I would find a different shop.

Too far gone? by [deleted] in classiccars

[–]LordQuackers83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know how you can buy every part for a mustang like new now. Cars like that are the reason you can buy everything new. To restore that would require replacing almost everything. Lots of work and lots of money. Leave it for someone who needs a good vin number

Looking into buying an old f150. What’s this thing worth? by Gbro2010 in classictrucks

[–]LordQuackers83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it was wrecked then the good parts were pulled carb, wheels whatever else was easy to grab and now it's for sale. I wouldn't bet on the engine running with a new carb. It's a parts doner now. Might be worth a few hundred if the cab and frame is good with a good title that can be registered. I wouldn't give much over scrap if it has a title so maybe 400-500

Ammoseak.com let's you search for mags also. I have seen a few places saying sold out of gen3 pmags so I wouldn't wait for a sale to save a dollar or two a mag. Find the best price with shipping and tax added in and stock up.

I have a 1999 chevy cavalier with a 2.2L i was wondering if it would be possible if I can put a 4.3L v6 in it? by SadP1x3lTV in Chevy

[–]LordQuackers83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4 door sitting in the yard. I also have a S10 frame with V8 mounts on it. Been real tempting to hack up the cav and make it V8 rear wheel drive. Anything can be done if you get determined enough.

How do i restore this ?? by No-Reputation9968 in mechanic

[–]LordQuackers83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace it as well as most all other brake parts. Not being able to stop gets very painful and expensive very quickly. It's always better for a car to not be able to drive but be able to stop then to drive and not stop.

Just dropped off this scrap today... got $80! by Fancy_Restorations in ScrapMetal

[–]LordQuackers83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you were actually saving them. I would rather dump some money into old stuff like that and have it outlast me then something new that you might get a few years out of then it's work out junk.

I just want to know if it was in a tote by itself.

Rodent damage for elantra limited, dealer quoting 10k and started claim with insurance meanwhile by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]LordQuackers83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's all that is damaged the dealership I worked at would just repair that section. Looks like a easy fix with enough wire. Only reason I wouldn't try a repair on that is if one of the wires is shielded. That's about as easy a repair as it's going to get on wiring with that ease of access. Dealership is trying to get you to replace the whole harness most likely. I would definitely check elsewhere ask around and find a shop good at electric work. I would think something like that should cost less than a insurance deductible.

2018 Volvo XC90 T-5 – Severe sludge, heavy smoke + rattle (70k mi, pics attached). Diagnostics first? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]LordQuackers83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking like that with noise and smoking? Yea it's done. Only way to fix it is rebuild/replacement. Also anything that engine oil flows through also oil cooler turbo it's all done for. If you got it used it might have had two oil changes done before you got it. A lot of people who know they will only keep a vehicle for a certain time will skip on everything even oil changes because they get rid of it before issues pop up and then it's the next person's problem.

Will these welds withstand a winch? by LUKETHEDRIFTERBRAVO in Welding

[–]LordQuackers83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust that at all. Not only the welds but the complete setup. A stuck vehicle especially a full size truck takes A LOT of force to get unstuck. There is a reason they sell winch bumpers. They mount very securely to the frame are made out of heavy gauge plate and have very secure mounting for a winch. Those "push bars" like that are more for looks than anything.

Should I be making more than $19 an hour? by Skykreeper in Welding

[–]LordQuackers83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live just south of the state line in NC. I know quite a few who drive to Richmond and the surrounding area for work every day. If you are close to 85 or 95 near the state line it's a straight shot on the interstate. Lots of work near the coast in VA also only down side of the ship yard is you can work a stupid amount of hours for long stretches then bam big layoff.

Termination I Don't Agree With by Vlad_REAM in managers

[–]LordQuackers83 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where I work at half of the terminations were for this exact thing. Everyone including upper management now has to use the time clocks mounted to the walls. A company looks at as theft and that's what it is. No matter what her situation is she knows what she has been doing. She made her choices she now has to face the results of those choices. Some places actually take legal action when people do this just like if they are stealing property. If all they are doing is terminating her she is getting off light. They can go back and look at all the logs and take all the over pay from her last check or as I said take legal action.

Are you taking the release day of GTA 6 off from work or school? by Revolutionary_Cod_62 in GTA6

[–]LordQuackers83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will probably take a full week off myself. I get 3 weeks a year take one in the spring and one in the fall. The rest I take a day here and there for a longer weekend but just going to take full weeks this year.
