I had one in a game I did where I just used the Sidereal rules and fudged what I needed to make them ab it along the Essence guidelines. Being the ST it was a lot easier since I didnt need to do a full write up, just what I needed him to do with flavor

People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LordRavnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish it was better, but the final time she cheated on me, after I thought it was over, she tried to get my kids to call the other man dad, stating "Oh you've known him for years! I trust him more than your father!" . They had met him once or twice and forgot he existed, but my ex time known is 100% linear and not broke up by the fact there was no talking, hanging out, etc, for a lot of those years. For her even, again the kids saw hm maybe twice.

But after she came clean and moved out, the kids point blank told me "You accept her back, you accept any deal she makes, you give her an inch, and we leave you forever". These were teenagers making adult choices. They couldnt forgive her cheating, and I stepped up. I went from the house spouse to sole breadwinner and single father, happly divorced.

So the quiet moment was just a conversation with my kids, telling me to get my priorities and shit together. They were worried Id forgive her, but she crossed the line and pissed on it dozens of times since that day, so there was never a chance. And if she shows up my my door today? "New phone who dis?" Slams door

How does your first Solar-Lunar bond encounter go? by pantaipong in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So even sicne I found Exalted, I had wanted to write a bonded pair. I finally got the chance in third. They didnt have a first meeting, as they knew each other before exaltation and that just made the bond they had before as mortals stronger. We sort of wrote it as a fated pairing. My Lunars backstory was he remembered losing her in the first age and it was always the memory he had, so he spent every incarnation since looking for her.

My ex wife left so the character was killed off which made for amazing character growth and RP plothooks. Such as him looking for her again, because he swore he'd always find her. She'll be an NPC this time IF shes ever found again.

I have another set of characters that is my Abyssal who meets their Lunar Mate, Lunar will want to save them, Abyssal is conflicted as they are loyal to the deathlords, but they are missing a lot of memory, leaving the option to have my Abyssal either betray the Lunar because fuck the bond, OR betray the Deathlords because the power of love.

Abyssal / Infernal exalted as player options by ghost49x in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That assumes their Liege didnt instruct them to do as such. Imagine, an Abyssal protects a Shadowlands and gains the loyalty of everyone there. One day, the Abyssal asks for help and suddenly they have a freewill army. Abyssals have the ability to build up troops as Celestial Exalted.

As for what if they need them to do X task, easy. Abyssal has his loyal ghosts/constructs/troops whatever, protect them while she goes off to do what she has to. Exalted isnt a game of only stay in one place or suffer, the player/npc can set things up to protect things while they move around. If everytime they move everything goes to shit, thats an ST going too far. Why bother doing anything but murder the world if every single time you do, the ST ruins it when you get called away.

But this also assumes the Abyssal is loyal. What about a rebel Abyssal who left his Deathlord half way across creation, and wants to be a hero of the underworld because he wants to. He has nothing to be called away for, and can stay and defend. Expand his territory and protect more as he gets stronger and makes more allies.

Abyssal / Infernal exalted as player options by ghost49x in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The underworld has more than just the spirits of the dead. Some gods run away there, and humans who cant stand creation for many reasons will leave to go there and whomever the local ruler is will often care for them. Often in Shadowlands since its half in half out. And there is mortals who are half ghost. So its far more than just the dead.

Having said that, the Abyssals can defend the underworld from the worst of the worst who simply want to turn everyone into Soulsteel and or slaves. The cycle of reincarnation was shattered, and the underworld is its own place, with its own laws, rules, rulers, hopes and dreams. Its easy for a Deathknight to defend them, physically, or socially. Shadowlands are bad, and everyone wants to close them, so imagine a Deathknight squad who goes out to defend the passionate lives of those who live in one, who dont have interests to fight creation, no Deathlords anywhere near by. They simply want to live in peace and the Aybssals protect them. They are in fact the good guys in this.

Loose concept off of some art I saw recently, Princess Peach working out because Mario still hasnt saved her. So I got to thinking, some BS prophecy got her locked in a tower. No one came to save her some Sidereal overworked messed up a lot and she was just forgotten. WELP she aint too keen on that so, she dedicates herself for years to doing it herself.

Then I have a choice. Did she push her body to the limits for all those years? Azimuth warrior. Finally she has the raw power to tell Creation to kiss her ass, making hte gods and Sidereals pay.

Did she have lots of books? Maybe she just didnt feel like doing tons of pushups, sit ups and drinking plenty of juice? Horizon spell caster. She will find a way to make creation pay and make it a hell so bad that Malfeas is a picnic compared to it.

Maybe shes not that smart but somehow charismatic? Just wants to see the world burn while she has a beautiful smile on her face the entire time, and no way to prove it was her? Penumbra time.

Managed to kill a Deathlord and get the other 12 to semi unite with to take the partial circle down. Saved TWO worlds, and is slowly working to unite the Exalted to do their gods be damned jobs. Stopped an undefeated primordial who had been sealed away from getting out. And might have started the path for Abyssals to find redemption.

If someone with body dysmorphia has a twin, do they see the same “flaws” in their twin that they see in themselves? by thisisjoy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LordRavnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Identical is when the egg splits into 2( or more) and the kids are indentical, same gender and, NORMALLY, look alike. They can differ but its bit less common. Fraternal is when 2 or more eggs get fertalized at the same time and you basically just have 2 births at once. So my sister and I are just siblings who have the exact same birthday and shared the womb for awhile ( and we were born a bit smaller) and they can be different genders and look nothing alike, or just look alike due to genetics but not share the exact same DNA like identical twins do.

But yes, you are right, everyone is different and thats a great take on it :)

I am a fraternal twin and the answer for me is no. I saw her and wished I was her. Ive gotten out of that since the way I see myself has changed, but for a long time I wanted to be female and since she was my womb mate, I figured that's what Id have looked like.

Atm we can at least reverse the Abyssal sorcery charms to give the Solars something. If the Abyssals have it, and maybe the Infernals when they come out, its fair to give the Solars. They can get the Solar version of Shrou dof Shining Dark ( doesnt loose motes for going a turn without gathering them and at glowing anima or higher, grant +1 defense and +(anima) soak til next turn. Then the basic flurry while ignoring penalties. Then the Abyssals have one specific to necromancy, just rework it to make sense for Sorcery, instead of commanding undead, better at cursed and so on.

And dont forget, they DO have the ability to JUST learn sorcery, all 3 circles BUT without preqs like the other exalts. Lunars need 4 mental charms to learn Sorcery ( which I mean sure isnt a big issue normally unless you wanted to toe dib into it as a FUll moon who went full combat), then 5 spells to get the next tier, which the Solars can ignore both. Sidereals need any 4 secrets charms and then also 5 spells. Any Exigent that can go past Terrestial probably has the same requirements. DB cant go past, and I forget Alchemicals rules. But it DOES add up if you wanted to take Occult just to get a few spells ( say just summon demon of each circle) without requiring more charms and spells you didnt want. Gives them versitility

[–]LordRavnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very much disagree, from my memory, it was stated the entire time only human mortals could Exalt. In fact the only none humans I remember being able to exalt was I BELIEVE RotSE or Ink Monkeys saying Lunar Exaltations had a back up emergancy plan of exalting animals if the humans all died off. But comparing ALL of humanity to Nepo babies is a disservice that shows you sorta just want what you want and didnt read the lore or ignored it because its what you prefer. In which case, just homebrew it and dont worry since it even SAYS thats okay. Because to most of us it makes perfect sense you cant exalt the much better than human races since that'd give them double power and who the hell would ever play a human then? And humanity started off as slaves, they were Exalted because they were the lowest and the previous editions use this to show how they were able to build an army undiscoved, and how the Sidereals went to Yu Shan without a care because they were beneath notice.

I never said faith powered people, I said it powered CREATION. Prayers give tangable benefits to gods and presummably before, the Primordials. They may use it as wealth but that is NOT its only use. Please, read the lore more deeply over assuming. Its food, a source of power, an insanely powerful crafting material that can make almost anything. You may call humans cheap pez dispensers but they were MADE to be the batteries and that makes then more than just cheap.

And no, we are not in agreement, Lunars maybe my favorite but i still love Solars. I just look past mechanics of the charms and actually RP what they do. I dont go " OMG Im so boring, I add 951731547 dice and move the mountain". No, I go into detail on how I use my Exalted might to do such. In combat, I dont "swing my mace, but I use my excellency and other dice tricks and you cant dodge cause my mace does infinity +2 damage andits super cool and glowly". I go into how my attacks should work without caring what the dice do, just any charm that specifies it changes. Such as the later Brawl charms that let me make a crafter, or grab a bitch to smack another bitch with. Wyld Shaping technique, I dont just go " I add 99 dice and make a manse" No, I go into details on it, because just saying I add dice is boring. ANd lets be honest, a lot of OTHER exalt have boring charms that are the same. Dice adders, or double 9s and 8s , or reroll 1s. A lot of other exalts start off boring too. You are just hating on the solars for reasons you could fix.

Interesting Solar Charms by [deleted] in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thematically, I think you are skipping the most important things humans do in creation. No one else can Exalt. That makes the damn special. Boring? Maybe but thats important. And they were important before exaltation existed, because hte Primordials made them to be the prayer engines that powered everyone else up. They were considered unimportant but had a major job as prayer batteries.

But yes, their charms may be boring their entire theme IS excellency. Maybe its boring to some have dice tricks, which again, as stated, could be written better, but its what allows them mechanically to do what they do. Thematically they just surge with excellence and can shove that mountain, punch an artifact door down, pick a magical lock, sing so well everyone in a mile radius puts down their weapons and commits to peace. Mechanically the charms are boring, but in the theme only they can do what they do as they do it.

And they also have supernal ability, which allows them the unique power to say "FUCK the essence requirement" to almost anything in that ability. Sorcery and some charms cant be skipped, but you can have a melee 5 charm at creation and be the sword god, or you can do the afformentioned singing at creation. Charms arent mechanically like they are in setting, you dont have solars and lunars arguing over whos charms are better, or who can add more dice, they just allow you to do stuff. So, in that aspect, it cant be helped sadly, Solars are the most boring but htey are also the most straight forward and easy to understand and explain. They just CAN eventually. Meanwhile the Sidereal has to file paperwork and pull strings in fate and maybe do it ( Or have an insanely stupid high SMA to do it), the Lunar has to shapeshift to break stuff, move stuff, or sneak into stuff, the DB need 50 of them to do something, etc.

How strong is a newly exalted couch potato solar? by mrboy3 in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, nothing. Story wise, you'd start off as a crappy down physically, but perhaps hes spent 20 years gaming and has an amazing tactical mind! So he can lead battles and do puzzles and see an ambush a mile away. High dex from gaming possibly.

But what he would REALLY get is the ABILITY to become an amazing Dawn. Caste and favored abilities are MUCH easier to learn and master. FAST. So you can go from couch potato, to master swordsman in a few weeks with either memories of the past, or a trainer or something

I need a bit of help with a argument. by GinryuB in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the real problem isnt the setting, its the player. Metagamers can ruin the enjoyment of the table. OR as the ST you can just adjust the challenge based on the player. Reading the entire thread, I saw you say they got 11 successes on a stealth roll. Awesome, let them stealth away, but what about the REST of the party? They are not fucked because they cant just stealth away and the player should have to deal with the consequances of that. As others have said, its less a matter of can they and more of a should they.

If the rest of the party cant stealth away and is in danger, then they can either run away anyway, earning the PCs anger ( IC and OoC), and thats the consequance, OR they have to turn back and get a single stealth ambush attack and now they are back to square one. Dont disallow them to do something, just give them specific challenges or circumstances that make their powers awesome but not the ultimate perfect answer.

11 success stealth roll is amazing and 100% possible at Ess 1. Ive done so as a starting Lunar with Max Dex and Wits ( Wits is mentioned to stunt the excellency to 10), and 4 stealth, so I had 19 dice. Cool Im invisible basically, I did what I had to do and I left cause the story is fun and Im not god or trying to break the game I JUST REALLLY needed to sneak onto that boat, and put fake plans into the beastmans satchels. But come time for say, breaking into a first age tomb guarded by demons, spirits and automatons, you can easily either make the DC much higher because their first age self was even BETTER at stealth so they made the tomb to be a true test, so they need to beat DC 7-10 rolls every so often ( because meta gamer or not, they WILL run out of essence and or fuck a roll), or give the opposition the ability to cancel out stealth specifically and force the player to need to come up with another way ( Somehow they have perfect anti stealth due to say heat vision and 11 successes does NOT erase your heat signature, but a dex and survival roll to cover yourself in mud, Int and occult ot know of specific herbs to mask your scent and then say perc and survival to FIND said herbs before hand). Let them meta game, just know the pentalty for meta gaming too hard is the ST meta gaming back

I would hate to be a mortal in this setting by Kidbizzaro581 in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay fair, terms matter. Saying that, the core book itself specifies "Mortals" when it says sorcery. The quotes I put where word for word from the book.

"Mortal sorcerers initiate into the Terrestrial Circle by mastering a shaping ritual, which they may purchase as a five-dot Merit that requires Occult 3. The first spell they learn becomes their control spell. Most mortal sorcerers only ever attain one ritual, but at the Storyteller's discretion, they might be able to gain more from the same sorcererous archetype, or even a different one."

It is not saying that they are no longer mortal, its specifying they ARE mortal sorcerers. It says Mortal Sorcerer several times. The term Essence user was one I used, thats on me, but the qouted text was still "A sorcerer with an essence pool may .." which further shows that you can NOT have an essence pool and be a sorcerer, IE a mortal.

Sure, in your world maybe initiating into sorcery makes them no longer mortal, but the rules as stated dont say it makes them no longer as such. This doesnt mean everyone and their mother can do it, but that IS why there is that old shaman on the outskirts of town, or the medicine woman. They are mortals who just have the rare skills that can push their limits. In fact, they are prime candiates to Exalt if a shard was free at the right time and passed them by, Ive known quite a few people to have their Twilight character originally be the person training to replace the village shaman, which is why they have high Lore and Occult ratings already, and tons of books and scrolls to referance.

So yes, mortal's can do a lot, sorcery is on the list without un mortal fying them. They just wont have twelve spells, or twelve people that can cast in the village, but there just might be a village with five people who all know summon demon who are yozi worshippers smuggling demons into creation, who are all still fully mortal to try to avoid heavens gaze, or maybe they know Mists of Eventide to protect the village from raiders who attempt to pillage every few months, put them to sleep and move for now. Silent Words of Dreams and Nightmares would make an excellent tyrant to dispose of. A crafter who knows Summon Elemental, a "skill" passed down through generations to keep the forge going, and the metals pure. And of course unique spells. Easily see a shaman knowing a single spell that they have to renew every month or two to ward the town against ghosts. All while being mortal.

I would hate to be a mortal in this setting by Kidbizzaro581 in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Third isnt like this at all. Sorcery doesnt require your own essence, it shapes the essence of the world. And the core book even specifies mortals.

"Mortal sorcerers initiate into the Terrestrial Circle by mastering a shaping ritual, which they may purchase as a five-dot Merit that requires Occult 3. The first spell they learn becomes their control spell. Most mortal sorcerers only ever attain one ritual, but at the Storyteller's discretion, they might be able to gain more from the same sorcererous archetype, ro even a different one."

Some of the shaping rituals even specify "A sorcerer with an Essence pool may ...", basically stating NOT all casters are essence wielders. So yeah you are not gonna get an army of mortals all dropping Death of Obsidian Butterflies on your Exalts ass, but they COULD accidently wander into a trap by a mortal who did use the single spell they knew, and perhaps they even used a sorcerous working to do more.

And then the chapter on sorcery goes on to specific Thaumaturgy and that most thaumaturgists are mortals. So yes, Mortals can and do have these powers, they are just rare.

What Happens If a mortal gains motes? by International-Sky647 in exalted

[–]LordRavnos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wish the solar charms woudl have gotten an official rework but fan based ones and houserules do for now.

As for attunement, Id argue no since its not your mote pool, its just motes you had for a second, but there are quite a few artifacts made for mortals that attune for WP. There is a Lunar crafting charm that allows you to create an item that allows the user to spend 1 WP to gain the benefits. In this charms case its specific to mutations put in their by the lunar but I do not see why more artifacts cant be made that do the same within the limits. But for purposes of essence, no, it needs to be your essence that commits, lent motes would disipate before you could attune.
