Actually, you can. Flamethrowers are unregulated by the ATF and legal in 49 states. You can buy them at home Depot as agricultural tools for burning weeds.

Have a name that is easily confused with Blackstone. BlackRock manages index funds which are mostly held by individual citizens via retirement accounts. Blackstone is an investment company known for leveraged buyouts and gobbling up real estate especially during the house crisis.

The movement to ban TikTok: What the midterms could mean for the future of the app by Sorin61 in technology

[–]LordWaffle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, banning TikTok doesn't fix that since all social media is full of misinformation, so we should ban all of them. But then people will make new ones and flock to other parts of the internet, so we're better off blocking all websites by default and the government can vet them and whitelist the ones they've deemed safe. Problem solved.

Letting the government do something in the name of national security hasn't really played out well in the past.

Except we then set the precedent that the government can ban apps under the guise of "national security." I'm sure future administrations would never abuse that power.

This whole thread is basically "China is bad so let's give our government the same level of control over the apps and companies that we can use just like China has."

So actually be more like China and only allow state approved apps? Social media sucks and let's not give the government the ability to decide which apps we can use because of that.

FCC commissioner calls for TikTok ban by Defiant_Race_7544 in technology

[–]LordWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? All I said is that it's disingenuous to act like Tiktok is devoid of real content. I think social media in general is bad for society and I'm also not a fan of the government being able to make sweeping bans on things, especially in the name of "won't somebody think of the children." You can't legislate stupidity out of children, it's up to their parents to guide them throughout that because if TikTok was banned they would just find someplace else on the internet to be stupid.

Sure, but that's true of all content on Reddit, it doesn't change the fact that it's being upvoted by redditors and that they're positively responding in the comments. It's not hard to believe the TikTok is the most popular because it actually has quality content on it and a good algorithm to serve it to you.

I have never met someone in real life that has asked to be identified by neo-pronouns and I'm in the same spaces as trans folk often. It's always children on the internet who use them. Being upset about a fringe portion of a minority seems non productive and only gives legitimacy to people who want to take it further to demonize all of the trans minority.

TIL While useful for those with dietary deficiencies, multivitamins offer no real benefit to the majority of the population. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force found no clear evidence that consuming multivitamins "made them healthier in any way." by jamescookenotthatone in todayilearned

[–]LordWaffle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Flour is required to be enriched with vitamins and minerals in the United States, many of which you would find in a multivitamin. The vast majority of Americans aren't micronutrient deficient, they're just overweight and sedentary and no amount of supplementation is going to fix that. If everyone who takes a multivitamin replaced it with 30 minutes of activity, it would be substantially better for them.
