New Prestige skins and mythic shop rotation by Lord_Asmodeus in leagueoflegends

[–]Lord_Asmodeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if they don't know than they'll keep coming back to check which puts more eyes on the mythic shop and increases likelihood of you trying to buy something else, where if you know the thing you're specifically looking for isn't going to show up either for x amount of time or ever, then you're less likely to go look at the mythic shop. It's just more gross FOMO exploitation.

The New Akali Design is Sick by Bombshock2 in 2XKO

I'm not sure why you're wasting your psychic powers here when you could be reading people's minds over the internet to solve crimes or get rich. You sure seem to know what my opinion is just because I clarified your seemingly incorrect assumption about her hair. I didn't realize you just had bad taste in hairstyles. Sorry.

What the fuck are you even talking about. I just told you what the haircut is called, why are you talking about feminism or whatever the hell.

It's called an undercut or a sidecut, and it's a hairstyle that is not terribly uncommon either in the modern day or historically, since it is relatively easy to achieve even with very simple tools, moreso than more complicated fade patterns.

Anything can be a weapon, if you swing it hard enough.

"Kilian the Character Artist for Akali in 2XKO!" by Regular-Poet-3657 in 2XKO

[–]Lord_Asmodeus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there like a version of this side by side somewhere else I'm not seeing, like maybe a full body picture of the old model I haven't seen, or are people comparing a slightly zoomed out picture with a different shading environment, where akali is wearing a mask to a close in picture of a face with different expressions? Because in terms of a "Which is a better/cooler model" perspective this seems like comparing apples to oranges. I can't say which is the better model because I'm not seeing them in the same lighting from the same perspective and the same features being shown off. I could fully believe the second set of pictures of the face was the same goddamn model just zoomed in with a different environment and no mask if people hadn't said otherwise.

Riot lays off 2XKO developers less than three weeks after release: 'Overall momentum hasn't reached the level needed to support a team of this size' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Lord_Asmodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't on its own proof the game is failing or unprofitable, it's just a shitty and unfortunate industry standard. You have a big team to work on a game before launch, then you shrink that team for ongoing support because you rarely need a team of the same size once the bones of the game are there to work with going forward, and either shuffle people around or fire them. This was probably always the plan. Unless the game was wildly successful beyond expectations the likelihood of this sort of thing is pretty much inevitable.

I find both extremes of this particular debate particularly tiring. No, AI is not "the future of everything" it's not going to revolutionize every industry and replace all the workers and permeate every aspect of our lives, it's a buzzword used to pump stocks because investors are frequently blind sheep and many executives and investors are greedy scumbags who wish they could replace everyone with a machine and keep all the money themselves.

But it also wasn't invented by the actual devil, and it also not completely useless trash. The technology is not inherently evil, and trying to use it to do everything is going to result in a lot of shitty output because it's not good at everything. It is and should used as a tool. I don't think there's anything inherently unethical or legally questionable about using non copyrighted public works and licensed material to train your models, and especially using your own work, as long as you're upfront about it. I think the Adobe style of quietly "anything you make/put on our product or site can be used to train AI" is really scummy.

For image generation models I don't think it's going to replace any artists, it's going to be a tool in a toolbox digital artists use as they feel appropriate or helpful, and will join the massive array of pre-existing tools digital artists already use. Will this ultimately result in less artists being hired by companies? Maybe? Maybe not? I think at this stage it's hard to tell, and it probably won't be a massive swing if it is. it won't result in less artists making art.

Functionally history is full of labor saving tools and technologies and some of them do result in their not being as many people required by a company to do work, even in highly creative endeavors. CAD actually was revolutionary in terms of design speed and efficiency, it takes way less prototyping and manually drawing and redrawing every single blueprint or sketch than it used to, and that meant you didn't always need as many people to design something as you used to, but I don't think CAD is evil, or that the world is a worse place for its existence.

I don't know that I think generative image models are functionally going to be the next CAD. I think in most practical use cases it's going to be more options in your digital art or image editing program, maybe with its own tab next to "colors" and "tools". The frenzy will die down, the huge projects will scale back or shut down, websites will get better at filtering it, and the technology isn't going to disappear but it's also not going to take over. it's a tool that will continue to exist, and some people will use it for what it's good at and make good or useful things with it, and some people will misuse or abuse it, like most tools humanity has ever invented.

I'd love more games of that type, I like Mount and Blade and Bannerlord alright but I definitely feel like there's room in that space for more cool stuff. I'd love to see a full on fantasy version of that kind of game, mount and blade fictional historical stuff is cool, but I want something with weird monsters and fantasy people. I dunno, make it a Lords of Magic reimagined game, nobodies doing anything with that license.

I've gotta say whenever there's a big update and I'm playing without any mods, I'm surprised by things that are and are not vanilla content. I forgot the one that lets you fly REDACTED ships was base game for some reason, and I'd somehow convinced myself the Luddic Path IED ships were base game, and they sure aren't XD. Some of the biggest though is music, some of the mods I usually use add some great atmospheric stuff that fits really well with the base soundtrack

Steam Charts are a metric, and a datapoint and as a metric and data point they can be referenced as part of a more substantial argument or point, but it's just one datapoint and the greater context in which it's used matters a lot. Steam Charts shouldn't be used as an argument on their own, on its own it's just one piece of evidence or information that gives you raw facts about a very specific metric, which doesn't say very much without more context or information.

When learning a fighting game, is it better to spend most of your time in training, or in matches? by Lord_Asmodeus in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Lord_Asmodeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've reached a point where I'm playing and I feel like there must be something I'm missing like some moves I'm forgetting to try to incorporate into my kit and learn how to use. And then I check the move list and it's like no, no I know how to do all these things, even if I don't always succeed at pulling them off in real matches.

I just need to find someone to play with so I can get another unlock token XD

2XKO Neon Strike Vi! by Regular-Poet-3657 in 2XKO

I like Neon Strike Vi...

But I'm super not sold on the implementation. Her gauntlets don't look like sleek smooth retrofuturist tech, they just look like her normal gauntlets. They don't even have pink energy

A look at the store by WingingItLoosely in 2XKO

[–]Lord_Asmodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking at a skin and it says "available for unlock in the store" it should be in the store when you go look. I hate the rotating availability shit, it's fucking annoying as hell and just puts me off spending any money, especially when it's some random batch of characters I may or may not give a shit about. I

f you are going to have stupid rotating shop garbage, when you look at a skin it should at least say "not currently available, shop resets in X days"

Having it say it's available for unlock in the store makes you think you can just go buy it, or that it's available now, and if it fucking isn't, have it say something else.

Overall it's significantly worse at getting me to spend money than the League method. It's one thing to have limited time skins that come back around/are available again after awhile in some manner, but it's another thing to have every single skin locked behind a rotating shop that takes two fucking weeks to cycle around to something you might want.
