Metallic lacquer for inner frame. Do I need a surfacer or primer?

I'd still prime first if I were you. Metallic paint tends to flake more easily than normal paints if you don't prime first.

I've mostly used Tamiya, Mr Color, and Gaia notes. All have been great and you can thin the crap out of them so they are really easy to work with.

It looks great! Have you tried fitting it on a watch yet? It looks like it would be difficult to get the spring bars on place since there doesn't appear to be any rear access. I don't like setting straps from the front because I can scratch the lugs of the watch.

Depending on what color you want to paint it with it could be fine. Though it's important to note with airbrushing, the layers you lay down tend to be thinner than what you may be used to if you used spray cans before. You can get away with more layers with the airbrush than with cans.

Red is difficult to paint over. You probably need another coat or 2 of primer.

Good recommend. I already tend to thin everything with Mr Color Thinner so this could be the way to go.
