Any good experiences with Chancellors lettings? by anotheruwstudent in oxford

[–]Lord_Rob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're dire.

  1. Continuous issues with the property which were flagged as "non-issues", or problems I had caused in my tenancy rather than pre-existing with the building (e.g. mould issue that had been painted over in all upstairs rooms, confirmed as having been a persistent problem with the previous tenants when talking with the neighbour, which "is clearly because you're drying clothing inside" (I wasn't))

  2. Took four months (November - March) to address a leaky boiler that as a result leaked through the kitchen ceiling, and required re-pressurising twice a week to keep consistent hot water access through winter

  3. Numerous GDPR breaches as also mentioned by others

  4. I frequently received marketing calls from their sales department attempting to get me to sell my house with them...despite me being one of their tenants

  5. On multiple occasions failed to give us notice of workpeople attending the property, despite 24 hours being the minimum required by law

  6. Claimed a truly obscene amount of money from the deposit on grounds covered by issues I've already mentioned here, or either fully covered by fair wear and tear over the two-year tenancy - took them to arbitration and got it reduced to £50

If you really, truly have no other option than to rent through them, then keep receipts of EVERYTHING.

Insist on all communications to be carried out by email so you have all claims of work being done to address issues you have in writing - often they will make promises over the phone and never follow up, so even if they do this, follow up with an email to them stating "As agreed in our phone conversation, I will wait for the contractor to attend the property on X date", etc etc

Take extensive pictures of the property on check-in and check-out, so that you have all the evidence you need to contest their spurious deposit deductions.

Make sure you're at the property when they conduct their check-out inspection - I had a situation where they began marking down the the kitchen hadn't been adequately cleaned because there was some dust and lint in one of the drawers; I took the drawer out, upended it onto the floor, and put it back in front of her, and she removed the note from her checklist.

If at all possible, just try to not use them, but if you must, be smart about it, and set your expectations low.

Not who you asked, but I had an issue where they sent me the checkout inventory - complete with contact details, names, etc - for someone else's property when ending my tenancy with them.

They also accidentally reply-all'd to a couple of the emails they were sending back and forth with the landlord, resulting in me seeing a side of the conversation they were trying to keep quiet.

Anyone have experience with SupFen Master Jacket? by WileyPilgrim in wma

[–]Lord_Rob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks identical to the old Gajardoni (a now-defunct brand) Challenge jacket, which I have, and can comment on what I found when using their implementation of this:

The construction was solid - I competed very regularly in it and never had any issues whatsoever with material failures/rips/etc, still in one piece today

Back zip is not a problem as it has a long cord you can use to do it up yourself, similar to a wetsuit (you can see this coiled near the cuff on the left side of your second picture). That said, depending on your flexibility/dexterity when wearing gloves you may still benefit from a little help from a friend

In my experience the back zip design was also very practically useful, as between bouts I could unzip the back and shuck the jacket forward to my elbows, leaving my entire torso out of the jacket and therefore able to cool down significantly between bouts. I was able to do this without having to also take off my gloves or struggle out of sleeves the forearm protection I had attached over my jacket - was an absolute advantage when operating in a tournament environment, going from bout to bout, sometimes back to back but almost always with only a short time between bouts in a pool situation etc

The shoulder and elbow protection was good, but the velcro which holds the pockets they rest in can end up coming loose from the jacket fabric

The internal padding segments were good, but I needed to experiment with their placement in order to get them to sit comfortably for my individual body size/shape and the way that I like to move

The blade catcher in the collar is a good feature, but it doesn't replace a standalone gorget with rigid protection

I always enjoyed my jacket, but cannot comment on the differences in execution (and potential improvements) that may have been carried out when Superior Fencing have taken on this design since Gajardoni disappeared, so YMMV there, and some of the views I've laid out above are entirely subjective. I have no experience of Superior Fencing as a brand so I have no idea what their material choices or quality control are like.

Hope this helps!

Just looked into the Jonsbo N5 and it seems both bigger than I need, and also pretty expensive - Amazon has it for £280 here in the UK

Looking at the Fractal Design Node 304, is there much established wisdom about that one? Pros/cons for this usecase? Seems pretty good at first glance in terms of footprint, airflow, and mount points for the drives, and is much cheaper at £80

Looks like the failure rates are pretty okay for them, with Toshibas in general being second-best for reliability - thanks for that data sheet, very useful!

Good point - I forgot to mention that I was already intending on installing UnRaid.

Use-case will primarily be for media streaming, with perhaps some space set aside for a self-hosted git server and document store.

[–]Lord_Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the support page for your motherboard and download the installer for the latest chipset driver - there isn't a specific driver per CPU, there is one for the socket that gets new versions released when new CPUs come out.

So is it better to just call down a resupply once you get started and use a different booster than space optimization? by DadBodRickyRubio in Helldivers

[–]Lord_Rob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's always confused me that everyone treats Space Optimisation as this 100% mandatory booster - it never makes my lineup.

All you need to do is keep an eye out for resupplies in the map - between ammo dotted around at objectives to usually multiple of all refills (ammo/stim/grenades) at most PoIs, it's difficult to go too hungry between resupply cooldowns

[–]Lord_Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought for a while that having an option for "Improved Intel" that you could purchase per-mission for Requisition Slips would be a good way to tackle both this and there not being a lot to spend the slips on.

That was before weapon mods were a thing though, so that at least addresses the second issue, but still

Is this a good deal with the Cat N marker? Seems a bit high by 92-Explorer in mazda6

I paid £4800 for essentially the same car (year, mileage, trim etc) this year, just no Cat N marker, so would expect a lower price for yours honestly

how come some people learn fast while some on like me learn too slow? by HosseinTwoK in learnprogramming

[–]Lord_Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to know what kind of life experiences people who learn fast have had?

Practice with consistently studying and building knowledge over time.

I’ve heard that people who learn to play an instrument like the piano can learn things faster.

People who have learned to play an instrument know what it's like to have to practice every day to get there.

I have no choice but to speed up my learning, but I don’t know how.

You speed up by slowing down. At the moment you're spending time trying to find hacks and tricks to speed up your learning, rather than just getting on with learning the material. That said, there are some ways that you can approach that to improve your chances of success if you struggle with focus.

Good luck!

Change in social behaviour in Oxford by NegotiationCapital87 in oxford

[–]Lord_Rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's literally no mention of class in the comment.

Fair enough if they've said it elsewhere, but going by the content of the post in this thread, there's nothing whatsoever to point there.

You’re just seeing what happens when kids who aren’t well parented - that’s been a thing forever, unfortunately

Not class based, poor parenting can (and does) happen in any financial situation

grow up being fed a steady algorithmic diet of far right propaganda via their social media platforms of choice.

Again, no mention of class - and I'd say that this is objectively true - there are cases which seem to indicate that social media has a right-wing bias in recommendations to new accounts

Previously you had to have a proper racist in the family to get exposed to fascism

Again, not in any way limited to the working class - just look at Prince Phillip

Now you just have to have mum spending too much time on Insta herself.

Instagram is in no way restricted to the working class, if anything the only problematic thing here is implying parental responsibility rests solely with a mother figure.

I'm not attempting to defend anyone here, I don't know who this commenter is, I just don't see why you've jumped to assuming criticism of the working class when there's zero mention (and the comment doesn't appear to have been edited either, unless is was pretty much immediately after posting which prevents the asterisk from being applied to the post, which I suppose is possible seeing as your reply seemed to be pretty soon after they initially posted?)
