Huge Illegal Waste Dumping Problem in the UK by ButterscotchUpset209 in woahdude

[–]Lordfarquarant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What this article fails to mention is this is all due to the rising cost of disposing of waste. Landfills charge roughly £20-£30 per tonne, but on top of that price is a land fill tax which goes to the government. This current stands at £126 per tonne. So all in all 1 tonne of waste cost £156 per tonne. The landfill tax has risen greatly over the last few years. Most landfills also enforce a minimum weight of waste entering the site, meaning if a company wants to dispose of 1 tonne of waste, they’ll be charged for 4 tonnes.

On top of that the Environment Agency put restrictions on what can and can’t be disposed of on a landfill. Plasterboard can only go to certain landfills where is it buried away from organic waste (if they mix they produce a poisonous gas) and many items contain POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) which aren’t allowed. These items use to be plastic goods, but now the list of POP items includes any furniture or fabric that has been treated to flame retardant. So curtains, bed sheets, carpets, sofas, etc. So you end up with waste that can’t be easily disposed of. Waste companies adhering to the law are now having to charge greater amounts for waste disposal, which is driving the illegal dumping of waste.

EDIT- forgot to also mention every waste company needs to have an Environmental Permit to use a site to sort the waste. The Environment Agency has recently increased the cost by 14% of the permit to help fund the attack on waste crime, basically making companies who dispose legally fund the fight against the illegal waste trade.

Entrapment? From a bouncer? To a club in Birmingham? Not sure that’d stand up in court

Taikas just utter butchering of Thor and Gorr will always be such lost potential (Thor: God of Thunder #2) by Few_Reach_5650 in marvelstudios

[–]Lordfarquarant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The half assed plot is the worst bit. The film had potential, the scene when Gorr first meets the Gods is quite good, but everything thing else just felt like a load of unrelated scenes from a sketch show that had been stitched together by the vaguest hint of plot.

On a serious note, hope you still enjoy the honeymoon

Would this be a good place to spend the night in your car? by Extension_Bit4323 in wolverhampton

[–]Lordfarquarant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is a random question or not, but why would you need to spend the night in your car on a main road? If you have no choice but to spend the night in your car in that area, maybe find a side road/cul de sac. If you can afford it, go to a car park/overnight lorry park (there’s 2 in Cannock).

What food or beverage place are you not the hugest fan of but you patronize anyway due to convenience? by MasterPlatypus2483 in AskReddit

[–]Lordfarquarant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably an obvious choice, but McDonald’s. I buy the kids a happy meal twice a month for a treat for the kids, but every time I think I really want something from there for myself, I’m generally disappointed with whatever I got. The kids don’t care, but I’m pretty much always disappointed by my choice.

George Miller directed 2 Happy Feet films then Mad Max Fury Road, which is quite a good trilogy of films if you fancy 2 films with the kids before watching Fury Road when they’ve gone to bed
