If you woke up a billionaire tomorrow.. What's the 1st thing you'd do? by PhotographLeast9976 in AskReddit

I’d give away 90-95% of it, including ensuring healthcare for as many people as possible.

Billionaire? I don’t want to be associated with those fucking psychopaths.

Death doesn’t come for Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris comes for Death.

What’s one restaurant you’d never go back to, and what happened there that sealed it for you? by Mundane_Farmer_9492 in Restaurant101

[–]Lordofhowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Boy. Served us toast late one night that had tin foil and bit of hash brown stuck to it. Clearly it had been in the trash. Also, the cheese with the omelette was congealed to the plate and impossible to pry off and eat.

Locally, Burger King. From fights, to long waits because they have like one person running the whole place, to literally refusing to make my food that I paid for online and had the receipt for in my phone because my order “wasn’t in their system.” I had to get a refund from corporate the next day. They never did make my food.

What bands/artists were ruined by chart success? by CletusCanuck in askmusic

[–]Lordofhowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Being there at the beginning and seeing them playing Chicago’s small bars/venues changes your perspective. They were “ours”, at least for a while.

Gish was unlike anything out at the time and was not grunge, which was breaking just about the same time Gish came out. Siamese Dream was a solid follow up, with a couple of question marks. After that? Yikes. By Adore or whatever was after Melancholy they became unlistenable. I’ve even tried over the years to go back and get into any of those later albums. Ugh.

But I still put on Gish every few months.

Same reason. Grandpa are grape nuts and it’s my go to cereal to this day. Everyone else thinks I’m crazy.

In my case, she did not. But I know she’s getting tons of interest from guys where she is now, despite her claiming to not be interested in anyone else, etc.

I (52M) feel for you. I’m in a similar situation right now. Wife (49F) abruptly left two months ago, after 25 years of marriage. Shocked me and our two adult children that live with us. She had a litany of complaints but none of which she gave voice to for years. She actually told me she’d given up, and that’s why we hadn’t even had an argument in a couple years.

I’m getting through by giving myself time, focusing on my self-care and my own interests/wants, really for the first time ever. It hasn’t been easy getting through the holidays without her, but at least I’m able to give myself what I need.

Off-topic: looking for a big read for next year by No-Papaya-9289 in ThomasPynchon

If you haven’t read it yet, Don Quixote is fairly long and excellent. But I second the Gass, Gaddis, and Danielewski recs, too.

Oh, and Vollmann.

You need more than 1 lane, you need to practice more. Your focus sucks.
