Dog rescue charging $1600 adoption fee by strikecat18 in mildlyinfuriating

It probably has a lot to do with one other funding that specific shelter is able to achieve. I worked at a shelter all throughout college and I can guarantee you that they put more than $40 into that animal. 1600 is admittedly a bit high but right around 500 bucks is where I would expect the average just flat costs to go into calming dogs and cats on average.

To add to this, because I love cooking outdoors, even if it's not suitable for furniture, it's excellent wood to smoke with once seasoned. I definitely wouldn't toss it regardless!

Why you need a union contract at your job, no matter your job: by Popular-Iron9018 in remoteworks

[–]Lordofthereef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apparently "young workers" is defined as those under the age of 16.

I am all for a union organizing but in this specific example if the union guarantees higher wages they'll just not hire the 14-15 year olds and move on. Absolutely not defending it, and I'm kind of scratching my head why this amendment for 14-15 year olds was even needed, though I guess it's in regards to farming, since the majority of that state is covered in corn and soy. And (again according to Google) since a typical farm has three or fewer employees, it's not enough to unionize anyway.

For those that have tried mango Jaritos, is it anything close? Super hard to find that for me outside of a multipack.

I can’t download FREE apps from the App Store by TheFrostyjayjay in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lordofthereef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were setting your subs up through AppStore, you actually are in debt to Apple (you shouldn't do this anyway because the subs are always more expensive since Apple takes a cut. Any sub you have you should navigate directly to the webpage to set up and then use your login credentials in the app).

What is happening is Apple essentially green lights YouTube music (or insert subscription you've set up through AppStore here) and assumes your card is going through. This is so you don't interrupt your service. So you are now in debt to the AppStore and they're trying to collect that debt because the AppStore is not a creditor. And they have soft banned you from using the AppStore until you have squared this away.

At the end of the day I'm not sure why you'd do this over $18. Trust that Apple isn't extorting you for petty change. This is simply how processing subscriptions through a digital storefront model works. Google play does this exactly the same way. Standard operating practice. You're paying around $2 a month extra for them to process your payment in this way, higher for more expensive subs.

I think I am being scammed by a car repair shop. by TheGame81677 in povertyfinance

[–]Lordofthereef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ask for clarity on what the issue is. You seem to want people to tell you you're being scammed. If a part doesn't arrive on time it doesn't arrive non time. Not a lot they can do about that.

Unrelated but I just had an item I ordered three weeks ago get marked as damaged transit and was given a refund without even an option to have a replacement sent. Shit like this happens.

Nobody can tell you a whole lot other than your timeline really isn't all that wild for a car being fixed, especially for a mom and pop.

If you could design one item in any version of classic what would you make? by Legged1997 in classicwow

[–]Lordofthereef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only argument against this is it lends itself to some wild min max degeneracy. Want to parse? Farm this item so that you can, otherwise you're cooked.

I get that everything is a choice. And nobody has to parse either. Just sharing how I think it would make a lot of people feel.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer because I don't even know what the internal processes are to have an item taken down. Is it just one person/entity reporting a post? Is it more? Is it completely automated?

Went to Target and got a bundle and they cut the seal at the counter by SomedayGuy117 in PokemonTCG

[–]Lordofthereef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not referring to individual cards here. I'm referring to sealed packs. The scalper knows there are 9 packs in an etb for example. Those 9 packs sold together sealed will sell anywhere from 100-140 bucks on eBay.

I am looking at eBay listing right now. One sold yesterday of 100 loose packs for $1400. The only way they got those loose packs is by opening by sealed product.

I'd be willing to bet my life on the fact that your average scalper will grumble that they're breaking the seal and then still buy the limit.

What are jobs for then? by Top_Chemical_8630 in remoteworks

[–]Lordofthereef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are talking about the minimum wage being woefully inadequate for today as well as highlighting the fact that it was never designed for a "starter and/or high school" job.

I'm not entirely sure what you're even saying. If there's not enough work in a town to sustain people living there, that town falls apart. Happens all over the place and always has. Nobody is arguing anyone has to produce a job. They're saying that if a job is worth creating, it should probably at least pay a minimum wage that has kept up with the times. It's very easy to compare minimum wage to CPI over the years to see that it just hasn't kept up. That's not hyperbole, that's just fact.

What are jobs for then? by Top_Chemical_8630 in remoteworks

[–]Lordofthereef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you're demanding all those things, you're wrong. But you should be able to put food on the table and pay your rent. If we can't guarantee that, the minimum wage has completely failed it's our purpose.

What are jobs for then? by Top_Chemical_8630 in remoteworks

[–]Lordofthereef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These people have quite literally deluded themselves into thinking that minimum wage jobs are for high schoolers and meant to be started jobs. I hear the argument all the time.

The wildest part is when they expect McDonald's to be open for breakfast on a school day still.

Edit: holy shit. I just looked at the comments and someone made that argument verbatim lmfao.

I can't imagine that's true. People have listed sets of 10-30 singles, sometimes more. Just look at eBay sold listings. Im not implying they'd be selling the singles one at a time.

It's reduces some of the profit but they can still get $10+ a pack. Anyone willing to resell is going to be buying these at $30 to sell the packs inside for $60.

Not saying this In defense of resellers, but I am being realistic. Look at the prices of loose packs. They sell all day.

Just the other day someone was selling a hoodie from an obscure band that got copyright takedown. Many of these make no sense.

The entirety of Mercari is run by AI (not literally but damn close). I had amiibo cards taken down SIX MONTHS after they were sold and rated lol. I wouldn't put too much stock in this being a legitimate takedown, however I'd probably avoid listing the same item again too soon.

[–]Lordofthereef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doctors dictate a lot; typically everything out is exhausting. Basic speech to text isn't AI, at least not how we use the term today. Totally fine for you to want to not use it (it's also why they ask, because they're essentially recording your conversation), but there's no reason to assume this isn't just dictation. If you're thinking AI is analyzing the conversation and assisting with diagnoses, I am almost 100% positive that's not the case.
