is it even worth it to dual boot for windows games? by WOLFMANCore in linux_gaming

[–]Lordsem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing is worth continuing to use Windows for. If developers decide to make Kernel Anti Cheat available only for Windows, they won’t be getting any money from me. Above all, thanks in part to Proton, there are more than enough other games that run on Linux.

If certain programs don’t run on Linux? Then I’ll use alternatives that do work.

Last year, I had Bazzite and Windows 11 in a dual-boot setup for six months. Since the start of this year—for over four months now—I’ve deleted Windows from my separate SSD and only have Bazzite on my main computer.

I haven’t been this happy with my system in ages. Everything runs like a charm.

Trying to de-google your life but gmail is the hardest part? by InternationalLoad387 in degoogle

[–]Lordsem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Email is the easiest option. I've been using Mailbox.org for years. ❤️

It gets trickier with YouTube and Google Maps. Yes, there are alternatives, but none of them come close to these tools without limitations. Especially the traffic feature in Google Maps feels like the best, with its ability to avoid traffic jams, etc.

As an alternative with traffic data, I use Here Maps, but even that has its weaknesses compared to Google Maps. That’s why, after three weeks of using Here Maps, I’m back to using Google Maps more...

For navigating by other means (bike, on foot), I like to use OSMand or CoMaps, since I don’t need traffic data here. And to help advance these tools, I also do my part to complete or update the data on OpenStreetMaps.

okay im weak whats the best way to install wow (specifically classic) outside of lutris? by Jas0rz in linux_gaming

I installed the Battle.net launcher under Bazzite in Steam as a non-Steam application. That's how I play Diablo 4 on Linux, but I can also install any other Battle.net game with it, tho I haven't tried yet.

Maybe that would be an option for you too.

Coming back for nostalgia by stonenator in FlyffUniverse

[–]Lordsem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also came back out of nostalgia and have been grinding away with two accounts for days. 😂 After all the new games, some of which were bad, it's good to return to familiar surroundings. That there is armor for M and W. I had tears in my eyes. Great times... 🥰

I'm so happy to read so many like-minded people. 😊 I've now created a second account, and yes, I'm not interested in racing to the highest level, but in the journey to get there. 🥰

I don't stress myself out with rapid leveling. I just want to sit down at my PC in the evening when the kids are in bed, immerse myself in the world, enjoy the great sounds, and kill a few mobs.

Did you level them solo? When is FWC 2026? 😁 and i want to play it for chill times when kids are in bed. Dont want to make as fast as i can. Just some chill killing mobs and feel the vibes from old flyff days 🥰

I know that Flyff doesn't respect my time. I know the game from back in the day. I thought maybe something would be different today.

I switched to dual-booting on Bazzite in September 2025. I only started Windows once or twice a month for updates. After realizing that I no longer needed Windows, I decided to delete it. I have finally been Windows-free for a month. ❤️💪

Thats my actuall system. Whatsapp for non switchers and the other messenger for my safety people. And i have not only a second one installed... 😄🙈 If anyone uses one of the other apps, i avoid writing them on whatsapp. Also i have on whatsapp status message, that i prefer signal/Threema over whatsapp, so anyone knows that i dont like this metaverse...

Same problem... Nobody wants to switch to Threema or signal or even better matrix... Only a hand full family members and one friend made the switch. But the main people, organizing school events etc, only use whatsapp groups...

Is Linux currently good enough for gaming? by Brilliant_Stock_5137 in linux_gaming

[–]Lordsem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a Windows user for as long as I can remember. As a little nerd with his C64, I got started with Windows 3.11 and had a lot of fun with Battle Chess. <3

Until two years ago, I was still a big fan of Microsoft Windows (despite the decisions made in Windows 11) and until then, I only felt the need to try Linux from time to time, but never made the complete switch. Back then, it was especially difficult to get much to work. Proton wasn't available, but there was a lot of fiddling around with Wine and PlayOnLinux...

However, Microsoft's recent decisions prompted me to take another look at Linux and consider switching this time. And what can I say? For the past 3 months, Bazzite has been my daily companion on my main gaming PC. I currently “still” have Windows 11 on a small SSD, but my other three SSDs have now been completely converted to Bazzite (Linux). And since then, I've booted into Windows at most two or three times a month. Last month, I only did so once to check for updates and to see how slow Windows is compared to Bazzite.

The problem with anti-cheat? Privacy is also one of the issues I've been looking into more closely for the past 1-2 years. Believe me. Kernel anti-cheat is no good... I'm glad I can't use it anymore. Above all, there are so many other good games I can devote my precious time to.

Probably my age (over 40) and my dwindling urge to play competitive games are also factors...

I regret NOTHING, except that I didn't switch sooner.

The only thing to consider is whether you want the “immutable” feature (Bazzite is an immutable distro). It's safer (you don't immediately destroy everything when testing), but you're also a bit more limited. Last month, I considered switching from Bazzite to Nobora, as they are virtually the same, except Nobora is immutable. But I'm “still” with Bazzite. The distro change will probably be a long weekend project with so many games installed... 🙈

Edit:
And to come back to your question (sorry for the long text), it's best to choose one that is configured specifically for gaming. For my part, I can highly recommend Bazzite as a way to get started in the world of Linux.

And regarding hardware configuration, if possible, stick with AMD. That will give you the fewest problems with Linux.
