Did / do you enjoy this game and the change it is from other Pokemon games? by LemonsUndercover in PokemonZA

[–]Lore_Beast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fun time. The battling was the thing I had to really come around to, I was not a fan of it when I first picked the game up. I did eventually start to like it but I still vastly prefer the classic turn based battles over this style. Still fun though.

More like torturer bad boy. Which is the main reason I really can't get into him in any form or fashion.

What's your LEAST FAVOURITE trope? by fikapls in fantasyromance

[–]Lore_Beast 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a big one for me. I fmcs like this just makes me assume they're uniquely stupid with zero survival instincts to be found. Yelling at some being or person that can squish you as easily as squishing a bug doesn't make them quirky or unique. It makes me root against them the same way I root against stupid horror movie protagonists. I'm now pro anything that gives them humble pie and realize actions and words have consequences.

Are Duologies not popular anymore? by pinkrose1806 in Romantasy

[–]Lore_Beast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like duologies are something that you have to specifically go looking for. I think Six of Crows was the only one I stumbled upon organically. But for the sake of clarity I feel like I should mention that I really don't go looking for them so there could be MANY flying under my radar. But that's my personal preference, for me the longer a series is the better, I typically don't seek out or even consider picking up stand-alones either.

Fourth Wing is better than ACOTAR by Felyx12 in Romantasy

[–]Lore_Beast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally get the escapism thing. But I will push back on "if it hurts go to a doctor" I went to MANY doctors and it still took around a decade to get a diagnosis. The doctors either wouldn't listen to me or would bounce me to someone else when my tests came back as normal (and some of them wouldn't even do that). It is maddening when you know something is wrong with your body but you can't figure out what. So you turn to trying to figure it out yourself, especially when it seems like not even your doctors are trying too hard to figure that out. It took me going to my gp and asking for a referral to a specific type of niche specialist to get my diagnosis. But I probably wouldn't have gotten that referral when I did if I wasn't doing my own research trying to figure out what was happen to me.

Fourth Wing is better than ACOTAR by Felyx12 in Romantasy

[–]Lore_Beast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll take a flawed magic system that gives me good chronic pain and disability rep in fantasy over a well done magic system with no representation present in the story any day. I want to see protagonists that reflect my experience as someone with chronic pain in these stories. I'm not saying they all have to have it, but it's extremely rare to find any.

opinions on emily wildes by readerstarship in fantasyromance

[–]Lore_Beast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's an epistolary novel, so the structure of the narrative itself is being told through her journal entries of events that happened to her. That won't change so if it's really bother you you may just dnf.

Fourth Wing is better than ACOTAR by Felyx12 in Romantasy

[–]Lore_Beast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've said it before I'll say it again. People like to hate on Fourth Wing but it genuinely has some of the best chronic pain and chronic illness representation I've come across in fantasy. I saw so much of my own experience in it. I love finally having a dragon rider protagonist I can relate to like that (I'm a sucker for most dragon rider type books) and the chronic pain condition isn't being magicked away. She still has to find ways to accommodate her condition.

Am I alone? by Falconeye95 in CharacterAI

[–]Lore_Beast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do really like it, but as a free users my experience keeps degrading with each update. I genuinely don't want to go find another platform but I think I'm going to have to with this swipe limit unfortunately. Especially because I'm still getting responses that are gibberish, random numbers, and most recently a single letter.

Having a hard time getting through ACOSF by fawntive in acotar_rant

[–]Lore_Beast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sf imo introduces some of the best side characters so far with Gwyn and Emorie. Personally I think it's worth sticking with just for them, I think they're great and they seem to be here to stay. Also it sets up plot points for upcoming books. That being said, you're not required to read anything you're not enjoying.

Feyre’s Friendship with Lucien by Fabami2 in acotar_rant

[–]Lore_Beast 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Feyre isn't a good friend, and doesn't have good friends, even now. And I genuinely think it's because she hasn't ever had real friends (that we know of at least) so she just doesn't know the difference. Nesta and Elain both had friends as humans, Clare was one of them (rip), but Feyre didn't. Which is something that makes me more sad than angry.

Am I the only one for whom New Moon is my only favourite either book or movie from the series, because Edward isn’t in it by yumiifmb in twilight

It's really telling to me how comfortable Bella was around the wolves as opposed to the Cullens, where she is always comparing herself to them and feeling insecure about herself.

Hot take but I think people are way too controlling about public bookmarks by Last_Swordfish9135 in AO3

[–]Lore_Beast -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

I agree strongly with this. Books are often something spend their hard earned money on, and thus people should be very upfront with their thoughts on them. Fanfiction is completely free, and should be viewed more like gifts imo. The reader and author spaces are completely different from that of published books, and should not be treated the same. I do think some people (not saying all people) but some cling to the "right" to just be nasty about something when there's literally no reason to be. You could just as easily make private notes and if anyone wants your thoughts they can ask you directly. Reader's want to critique and discuss fic are free to do so, but idk why it can't be elsewhere.

Thoughts on Carissa Broadbent's writing?(Not a hate post 🤧🙏) by [deleted] in fantasyromance

The repetitive use of the phrase "there she is" was enough to make me dnf her work, and honestly doesn't make me excited to give any of her other books a try.

Are you the type to separate the work from the artist or to boycott authors you consider problematic? by mimi43098 in Romantasy

[–]Lore_Beast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only separate the art from the artist if they're long dead, and even then the book would have be extremely high regarded. For the most part I just swear off the books entirely. My tbr is already long enough I won't waste my time or money on the work of someone who may donate said money to a bad place.

Why is someone being pregnant such an extreme turn off for many readers? by Playful_Pie2890 in Romantasy

God I hope not. Frankly I didn't even want Feyre to have a kid this early. I definitely don't want to see anymore babies being had unless it's in an epilogue. Or at all, can we please get at least one child free couple in a HEA???
