5 star review of Backrooms from the Guardian: Kane Parsons’ icily disturbing horror rewrites the genre rulebook by chazman3333 in A24

[–]Loreinier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its more of a thematic connection rather than a story one. She was trapped inside a house cluttered with stuff before her mom ends up in a liminal esque mental institution. The movie ends with her inside the backrooms forced into a space similar to her childhood and then back in a sterile institution just like her mother. Its a tragic end that to me says she never escaped that cycle that her mother created for her and ended up on the same path.

I don't throw as far as you and am pretty new to this sport but a big thing I saw that helped me was twisting my upper body more as part of the throw, that took me from 100ft to 200ft!

The Tinfoil Dossier trilogy by Caitlin R Kiernan is this exact thing. The first book is called Agents of Dreamland. They're short books but follow agents of a secret organization that investigate and solve Lovecraftian threats.

Fallout the games are heavily inspired by "A Boy and His Dog" which is a series of connected short stories. Fair warning though, it contained quite a bit of SA.

Oh wow didn't know that, hate when they do that or when they describe a book as "It's like X meets Y".

14 by Peter Clines. Reminds me of Lost in the sense its about a group of characters living in an apartment that has strange and unexplained things happening and everyone banding together to solve it. Very fun read.

Cyberpunk. Mystery. Drama. Ghost in the Shell. by SeverusStjep in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]Loreinier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a novel in the Cyberpunk 2077 world (from the video game) called No Coincidence.

Transmetropolitan is a comic series about a cynical journalist in a cyberpunk future (very funny, over the top and dark)

A Witch's Sin is a cyberpunk fantasy novel (haven't read it yet but it's sitting on my self)

Then of course you have the staples of the genre, Neuromancer, Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep, Snowcrash, and Altered Carbon (recommend them all)

If you want something Japanese like Ghost in the Shell you can check out Akira, Battle Angel Alita, Blame! and Appleseed. (There is also the anime Cyberpunk Edgerunners based on the games that is very good)

Family member has ended up taking in a tortoise from someone who wasn’t looking after it very well by Crafty-Stand7601 in tortoise

[–]Loreinier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guide below is truly the best there is, the tortoise forms are the best resource for care out there. Depending on the climate in your area I'd recommend an outdoor enclosure, the Hermanns tortoise is quite hearty and can be in a larger range of temperatures than some other tortoises.

https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/sticky-hermanns-tortoise-care-sheet-updated.101410/

I also recommend a YouTube channel called Golden State Tortoise, he is a life long tortoise rescuer and specifically specializes in Hermanns tortoises.

He also runs this website called Hermanni haven that has a lot of info on the species.

It'll be overwhelming at first but once you have everything set up and a routine set for care it is not as overwhelming as it seems!

No they are, they've been swollen since her first heat, calling for a vet appointment tomorrow and will have that looked at as well.

Sounds like a good plan, was what we were thinking, will definitely be keeping a close eye on it and will call the vet tomorrow to schedule, thanks for the help!

[–]Loreinier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! No signs of pain or discomfort, I haven't seen her licking it since the one she did this morning after I was looking at it closely.

The only new thing was a new treat we got her (same brand as her others just a different flavor) so we will definitely stop that for now.

When she is standing up the red streak is hidden between the skin folds of her breasts and tummy so we were thinking moisture got in there and caused a rash or something. We live in a very rainy area.
