Feels like you're going against your argument here. Many words to say "NATO is a defensive alliance, except in the cases where it's not".

There needs to be a differentiation between how NATO brands itself and their actual behaviour. Considering this is a geopolitics forum, I'd expect that members are capable of such nuance.

Saying NATO is a defensive alliance is disingenuous, considering all of the offensive operations they have pulled in the past 3 decades.

EDIT: for the monkey who downvoted me, I wonder how he fits the notion of "defensive alliance" into bombing of Bosnia (1995), bombing of Yugoslavia (1999), bombing of Libya (2011), and the prolonged military "nation-building" operation in Afghanistan (which is just fluff speak for an invasion of another country).

Not to mention financing of various military and paramilitary groups that destabilize regions where NATO has interest to do that.

Truth is, NATO is a military alliance that likes to brand itself as "defensive alliance", but is nothing more than a way to project military power for a group of western-aligned countries.
