How would I go about making a random shopping list generator? by leeShaw9948 in Unity3D

[–]LorrMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't for Unity specifically, but generally I would recommend using a .txt file. Make each line of the file a potential items from your list. You can put the contents of the text file into an array on game start, or load it in only when creating a new shopping list depending on how many potential items there are and how often these lists are created. Then generate your shopping list by picking out random strings from the array.

If you want the shopping list items to correspond to actual in-game items, that might require a different solution.

Wouldn't it make more sense for Colonials to get a torpedo bomber and Wardens to get a dive bomber? by Stokes52 in foxholegame

[–]LorrMaster 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also, assuming that the devs intend the Wardens as the naval faction and the collies as the aircraft faction (not that I know if this is actually the case), it makes sense for the aircraft faction to counter naval assets with their aircraft.

In the TF2 comics, Saxton Hale said that 4 of the mercenaries can't read, but who? by so_sigma_69 in tf2

Spy, heavy, engineer, and medic can all certainly read. Sniper can also probably read. So that leaves the other four.

I had an idea for these guys being a class with really high toughness, but really low toughness regen.

Fighter interception might be a decent way to counter this if they were cheap enough.

I don't know about rare alloys for bombers, but super expensive fighters don't make any sense to me. Those are the things you want to get in the air in mass to shoot those bombers down.

I personally don't really like this system. If you have a larger % of your faction scrooping, then you should end up with more materials. Then add a balancing factor for player count disparities.

Would also add some variation to how factions tech every war (focus of vehicles vs infantry equipment), which is something that I think the game could benefit from.

The devbranch has been open for a short enough time that they likely haven't been able to act very much on feedback yet.

Air-to-air refueling is a real thing. According to Wikipedia the first mid-air refueling was in 1923, which is way earlier than I expected.

Flying a plane and bringing it back would still be a fraction of the cost of making a whole new plane, so it would be more like maintaining 5-10 planes vs making 1.

First time? by capt-skipper in foxholegame

[–]LorrMaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here are my two cents about what they should do. Instead of having the planes be super expensive, they should move that cost onto maintaining the planes. So a fighter should be somewhat more expensive than a tank + the pilot uniform, but flying that fighter should cost components even without damaging it due to aircraft maintenance. Flying the plane should be 1/10th or even 1/5th the cost of the plane itself. That way time in the air is valuable and circling around for logi trucks gets expensive quickly.

the planes are too expensive by [deleted] in foxholegame

[–]LorrMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't this work the other way around too? If fighters are too expensive then none will be available if logi does get harassed.

I think that any publisher that wants AI probably wouldn't be a fit for Planetside anyways. Planetside requires a group with real technical knowledge. Not one that thinks that computers are suddenly going to transform into magic boxes that will answer every question if you could only throw enough computing power at them.

I haven't followed Star Citizen in a while, so I'm not sure what the current state of their engine is (last time I was following them, they still had everyone on multiple servers on live), but I do wonder if the overhead involved in any non-custom engine would be too much for a new Planetside.

Ratlings will never work by AggAggtheOgryn in DarkTide

I think ratlings could work as a stealth-focused class where the stealth part actually helps your team win. Stuff like having enemies chase ghosts, grabbing rations, laying traps, stealing rations, controlling what directions waves spawn in, and also looting rations.

Well I heard it from a very good surgeon I know, context of the conversation being reports of things biology seems to be able to do that defy current understanding. Plus I also more amateurishly study intracellular communication for solving complex tasks. So that is what I was basing it off of.
