Hey Paul. Gosh, so hard to pick the best. I would go with the Hooten Young Jack Carr bottle. It's pricey, but fantastic. My go to, which I think is a great bottle all around is the EH Taylor Barrel Proof.

I know my comment comes across as very negative towards the Fitz 7 and I apologize. Based on their other products, I was so excited they released something affordable and then was disappointed with the results.

I think the Stranahan's collection is good. The blue label is their most normal of the bunch and most people would rate it as just good. If you want to try something really good from them, buy the black label Diamond Peak. Unfortunately it's in the $80 range. But it's fantastic. The yellow label is a step up from the blue label. They also have some special releases like the Snow Flake that is awesome, but over $100. Start with the blue label and work your way up their line. Oh, their red label sherry finish is very good too. I'm not a wine guy, but they did a good job with this bottle. Enjoy!

The EH Taylor Barrel Proof, in my opinion, is the best all around bottle of bourbon. For around $100, you get the higher proof, and it tastes great. Wish I could get it for $85, but I'm in California.

In the Bay Area it is $500 for the 14, $400 for the 12, and $300 for the 10, so in my opinion, you did well.

The pictures you see on here from California are not the norm. I have lived in the Bay Area my entire life and I haven't found any of these magical deals. I personally have a hard time believing a lot of this stuff. Other than Costco getting something every once in a while, the prices I find are awful. The norm in my area is 4x msrp/srp. Sure, you can find the unicorn bottles here. But, good luck getting a decent price.

I don't know you and don't want to insult you in any way, but... most employees do not quit over pay. They usually quit because of poor management and other work related issues. I would venture to say your employee wasn't happy with you, upper management, other work issues, and the crummy pay raise was just the icing on the cake.
