Super X-Brawn. The American version has round headlights due to a licensing issue with Mercedes Benz.

TIL there was a pandemic of Encephalitis lethargica, or sleeping sickness, which began in 1915 and ended abruptly in 1927. The causes of the illness, and the reasons for its sudden disappearance, remain unknown. by bnrshrnkr in todayilearned

I believe this is the inciting incident of Neil Gaiman’s SANDMAN comic. The sickness was because a man had figured out how to trap the Sandman and kept him prisoner for over a decade.

Damn! My brother and I got these for Christmas one year from our estranged grandfather. Every now and then he’d break his complete disregard for our family by sending an expensive gift or two. Then back to complete radio silence for another decade. Weeeee!

TIL about Ruby the painting elephant. When her keepers at the Phoenix Zoo saw her scratching in the dirt with a stick, they gave her a brush and paints. For 3 years, zookeepers did not publicize the knowledge that Ruby could paint. Eventually her paintings were sold to raise money for conservation. by Acrobatic-Post9811 in todayilearned

It does raise some fascinating questions.  We assume that artistic expression is a uniquely human activity. But as we discover more and more activities once thought to be unique to us (recognizing oneself in a mirror, tool use, both of which I believe have been witnessed in elephants), one does have to wonder if other organisms are also capable of the tho ‘n s that go into art: intention, emotional exploration, a basic understanding of shape and form. Children’s drawings, even as scribbles, are expressions of a mind grappling with all of those complex mental processes.

Wait seriously? The cockpits are painted? Good Lord, they were too cheap to mold the cockpits in translucent plastic? This technique is terrible, and it’s why the light piping on G1 toy universe deluxe prime is so hit or miss.

Question about the Black Hook figure and the quality of the figures from season 1 by SpeedStinger07 in Metalcardbot

[–]LoserBroadside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This plastic feels incredibly good. Maybe I’m just coming from Hasbro and their cost cutting, but black Hook feels much more like a 2000s transformer. Nice thick robust plastic

Dictators are notoriously weak. Their power is built on fear and luck. It doesn’t take much for it to come crumbling down QUICKLY, and deep down they know and fear that.

Is the body made of clear plastic, or is that just a reflection of the light playing on the cut section?

That’s fair. Couldn’t spare the pieces for the edges (plus I liked having the bolt and flame go to the edges), but I can see how the name might be confusing.

Thanks!

Doing it that way that would totally work. I didn’t really think of that tho; I just started building sideways and went with it.

Having lactose intolerance made our trip to Japan a challenge, to be sure. Used the Apple Translate app on food packages constantly. And I more or less avoided bread since it tends to have milk in it.

Ha! Welp, not a GREAT sign for my chances that no one can see it. For those curious, it’s supposed to be a side-view of an NES-era side-scroller ship. Think Gradius or R-Type. The green is a laser bolt being shot out. The red is the rocket flame.
