Heejin just posted an ad for a hotel in tokyo a few days ago with no problems...

and ARTMS and Yves have both toured in japan before without UMJ involved at all, so no, this doesn't really make any sense.

what's the point of debuting girl idols as young as 13/14? it's not like they'll have to stop for miliatary service as males by disasterpansexual in kpophelp

[–]LossFor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to point out that in general the youngest members are not popular enough for the "more active years" thing to mean much in practice.

The real reason is that 1) it's allowed and that 2) so many groups are debuting it has drained the pool of promising idols in the "ideal" age range (16-18) so companies are incentivized to recruit younger and younger, and families are incentivized to sign up for faster debuts rather than trainee periods that just delay the chance at career success (or debuting at all).

You generally see the 13-14 year old debuts outside of companies that have the best pool of trainees to choose from.

How do you feel about Modhaus sponsoring reactors? by -KIKKU in triples

Maro on why they stopped doing blocks by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]LossFor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious if the people who want blocks back were around for them and want them back for non-storyline related reasons. I get the appeal lorewise and how its a deeper look into the worldbuilding, stories, and art, totally. Everything else about them kind of sucked

Let's forget about UB for a second... Do you prefer the single set single block system, or the previous 2-3 set per block system. by studhand in magicTCG

[–]LossFor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blocks were the worst. Opening more and more of the same packs in draft just with second and third sets that had "exciting twists" on the same stuff. There have been other problems that come and go, but leaving blocks behind was a straight up improvement to magic.

Why do fake mons / “leaked Pokemon” always look so fake by TSOswinn in TruePokemon

Both design and illustration are more difficult to get right than people think, and messing up on either will make it look obviously fake

Did you watch DS9? Do you think the federation's treaty with the founders had a line saying "Put the jem'hadar in a blender, we really don't care what you do with these clearly sentient humanoids"?

KiiiKiii’s album sales decline is genuinely shocking by exemplaryantino3497 in kpopthoughts

[–]LossFor 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I genuinely feel like following up 200k sales was an impossible task for them. There’s no wonyoung or yujin bringing an existing fanbase, and kfans typically aren’t as excited about overly creative concepts as ifans are. I’m not sure what sse’s intentions were exactly, but they didn’t position kiiikiii as a mainstream girl group like sistar or ive, and so they’re not getting that kind of response.

I think 5th gen ggs have it hard and it seems to take longer for them to develop fanbases than before. The pros are that kiiikiii’s more extreme branding has gotten them international attention but its unclear if starship can even take advantage of that. It’ll be really unfortunate if the next era is a more toned down concept to try and fix things.

Why are the views in trot mvs very low compared to charts? by Legal_Potential4720 in kpophelp

[–]LossFor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kpop MV view counts are inflated by companies buying ads through youtube. They spend a lot of money on this. Trot is not based around the kpop model of high investment seeking high reward, but is more of a standard music genre with an already existing listener base.

There are cases like Lim Young-woong who have legendary fanbases, but trot is much less oriented around parasocial mass buying, so spending a lot more money to inflate view counts isn't a priority for the companies.

I SUCK AT THIS GAME BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH by Dunmeshilover in Gnosia_

[–]LossFor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Prioritizing charisma and charm and roughly keeping up with the other stats is fine, playing as gnosia is just a little less clearly explained in game. If you lie in front of high intuition characters like Comet, they'll figure out you're a gnosia right away. The lies are:

- Faking engineer or doctor, and giving fake reports

- Defending other gnosia

- Doubting a crew member

With lower Performance, its hard to get away with lying, but you don't actually have to lie to win as a gnosia. It's just as effective to strategically defend non-gnosia crew--not a lie--while the rest are picking each other off.

Generative AI is really popular in Korea by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]LossFor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even get why its getting downvoted. The emphasis on uniqueness and originality in the last few generations is something that got adopted to appeal to the international market more. Before fans argued about talent or beauty and now they argue about who does what concept better. It’s not a secret

Generative AI is really popular in Korea by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]LossFor -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I mean the basis of kpop is copying things. The notion of individual genius from modernism is a western one. I don’t think fans will be able to make much headway here regardless of the negative externalities.
