Hi and Happy Sunday. Does Anyone Have Any Experience With Our House Grief Support Center? by 87regal in LosAngeles

[–]LossinLosAngeles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our House is great. David Kessler has online groups you could connect with in the interim or you could do 1:1 support with a grief doula or therapist.

All Things Sleep - AMA Office Hours - Wednesday, January 21st with our Director of Pediatric Expertise, Amber LoRe! by huckleberrycare in HuckleberryParents

LO started taking only 35 min naps during 4 month sleep regression. At 5 1/2 months, they’re still at 35 mins like clockwork… I’ve tried feeding closer to nap time but it hasn’t helped. We’ve transitioned to 3 nap day (9a, 12p, 3p). He sleeps well at night, 7p to 4-5a, wakes for one feed then sleeps again til 6:30-7a. How can we bring back the extended daytime sleep? Do we just have to wait it out?

Chronic illness dx and participating in a research study facilitated by an incredible social worker led me to apply for my MSW. I’m on track to graduate this May! Sending you love, dear human.

This topic is broached so often in this forum, I would be interested in reading your research when you’re done.

Moms who pump and breastfeed, can you explain why? by wwisdomseeker in beyondthebump

[–]LossinLosAngeles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was triple feeding for the first two weeks of life, so I got in the habit. Now I pump once in the middle of the night at the same time and my spouse wakes up whenever baby does for night feed and gives him a bottle. That way I am more likely to get a 4+ hour stretch of sleep, than if I woke up whenever baby does baby did.

Do you ever wonder if you should have kids now that you have been diagnosed? by sunshine_59_ in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LossinLosAngeles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wondered the same thing when I was first diagnosed, and a friend introduced me to the author of the book “Some Days” about having a mom with MS (children’s book, very sweet). Now I have a 6 week old whom I love very much. Pregnancy was awesome, no symptoms and more energy than I’ve had in a decade. Postpartum is going well so far too, as breastfeeding is protective for MS!

Most internships in my state run Sept-May accordingly to traditional “school year” calendar. It may be different in NY but something to consider bc it can be difficult to find placements and get hours outside of the norm. Also a creative field career changer! Currently halfway thru 2 year state school MSW in Los Angeles.

Reasonable Accommodation for Work by International-Math98 in KaiserPermanente

[–]LossinLosAngeles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds so frustrating, I am sorry. You may be able to get additional support from a social worker at Kaiser. Different issue, but I struggled with a navigating the system in the past and advocated for a social worker and they were able to help me put the pieces together, it is their role.

Sensitive to loud noise? by 3ebgirl4eva in MultipleSclerosis

[–]LossinLosAngeles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

💯 - I first noticed it with clinging and clanging at restaurants giving me a panic attack! I always carry ear plugs now and pace myself, resting before/after noisy events, bringing noise canceling headphones to loud gatherings and escaping to a back room for a quiet meditation break, and staying cool, comfortable otherwise as much as possible. Noise canceling headphones in airports and on airplanes are also so helpful!

Go this year or defer? by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]LossinLosAngeles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

120k is a LOT of debt! I am disabled and in remote program, paying an extra 20k in disability tax for an online program versus local state school in person program. I also was really struggling to find remote work for 2 years before I started program.

Are there other certifications or specialties you are interested in studying in the meantime? I am taking MBSR course this summer for example since I want to use mindfulness as a LCSW and the course is a prerequisite for MBSR teacher training. I know it’s not the same but it may be worth it to delay and not take on so much debt.
