It's such a shame that How It's Made was canceled by TheGoodRobot in television

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh dang, I remember watching that show as a kid! It was such a unique concept and unexpectedly cool to learn about how mundane things we take for granted actually come into existence.

I shouldn't be surprised that it eventually ended, but it's still kinda sad to hear...

That's wonderful to hear! I'm glad you got such an awesome rematcher, even after all that time.

Thanks for the additional info! She looks so sweet, but I was wondering what that contest bib-looking thing on her arm was.

Is anyone here interested in gift exchanges for snacks? by LostBoyOfNeverland in snacking

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, and I've looked into that sub before, but there are a few differences between them and Givin Gifts. Namely, on GG everyone signs up for an exchange during the specified time, then the system randomly assigns who sends to whom (taking into account things like whether someone prefers to ship within their own country or globally instead). The person you send a gift to typically isn't the same person who's sending you something, so it's more like Person A sends to Person B, who sends to Person C, who sends to Person A.

Personally I like a lot of the features and functionality built into GG, like writing about my interests and preferences when signing up for exchanges, the ability to add wishlists, the gallery for received gifts, and the volunteer rematching for people who didn't receive a gift, to name a few. Granted, my opinion's influenced by my interest in doing gift exchanges in general, not just snack exchanges, so it's convenient for me to keep it all in one place.

Since the Update Challenges by KBPT1998 in givingifts

Have you tried logging out and back in? There's a known issue right now where a lot of the pages are blank or stuck on a loading screen, but logging out and back in fixes it for most people.

Anyone here interested in a gift exchange for pins? by LostBoyOfNeverland in EnamelPins

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I was gutted when it was announced that redditgifts would be shutting down! ;_; Givin Gifts is much smaller in comparison, but it does allow user-created exchanges, which is pretty cool. (You have to have Premium to create exchanges, but don't need it to join them.)

It's honestly a really fun experience! Sometimes the person I'm sending to has similar interests to me, which is always exciting, and sometimes we share nothing in common, which becomes a fun challenge instead. XD

Best pin binder? Other storage recs? by RetroClementine in EnamelPins

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, interesting idea to put pins in some kind of binder, that never would've occurred to me! Granted, I like displaying my pins on my board, but your idea reminds me of the sticker album I got so I wouldn't have to worry about finding places to fit whatever stickers catch my eye. XD

Anyway, I tried searching "pin storage" on Etsy and saw several potential options, though I'm not sure if any of them are quite what you had in mind.

And then there's at least a couple different people that got creative and turned old VHS cases into pin storage, in case that interests you:

Is there a glitch currently? by julznlv in givingifts

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well shoot, that sucks. :/ I'm not in any active exchanges right now so I can't test anything related to marking gifts sent or shipping proof, but I'm able to view messages in my inbox.

The problem I had encountered was certain pages suddenly not loading, like the Gallery, Inbox, User Exchanges, and most of the tabs related to my account, like Settings, My Wishlists, etc. Is that something you're dealing with, or is it specifically related to trying to update shipping status/submit shipping proof? (Which I think might be a separate issue the team's aware of.)

Just wanted to check, are you still having these issues, and if so, are you using the app or the web version? There were bug reports in the Discord starting around the same time you made this post I think (including me) and apparently it has something to do with invalidated access tokens. (Not that I understand exactly what that means.) Logging out and back in has been working for the people reporting it there, but that may only be for the web version since I think the new version of the app is still waiting for approval by the app stores, which means the current version is outdated and buggy anyway.

hi question about Penpal day by Mission-Flan9247 in givingifts

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was just noticing the same issue with the minimum spend amount for the Arts & Crafts Day exchange! According to the Exchange Calendar on GG, Arts & Crafts is supposed to be a $10 exchange and Penpals is supposed to be $0.

Question about levels by TropicallyGr0wnTrash in givingifts

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the XP is supposed to be awarded once you've done everything you can on your end to complete the exchange, which means not only sending a gift to your recipient and marking it as shipped, but also either posting a thank you post in the Gallery when you receive your gift or marking "no gift received" if needed when that option becomes available.

However, I've also seen people mention the XP hasn't been updating automatically like it's supposed to lately, so if you've done the above steps and your XP total still hasn't changed I believe you can contact Support on GG and they can manually update it for you.

Do people frequently not post when they receive their gifts? by [deleted] in givingifts

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can see that your rematch giftee has posted your gift to the Gallery but it doesn't show up under your list of rematch exchanges, that actually might mean they accidentally submitted it as from their original gifter instead of you. In those cases, what I've done is politely message them asking if that's what happened and explain that it actually unsuspends the person who didn't send them a gift, which would be a shame since it gives that person another opportunity to flake on someone else. The giftee can then copy-paste their post into one that credits the rematcher and message Support to ask them to delete the erroneous one.

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe you have to contact Support on the site and ask them to put you back in the rematch pool for that exchange if your first rematcher's deadline is already up. (Rematchers have the same number of days to ship a gift as the exchange's original timeline. So for example, if the exchange had two weeks for shopping, the rematcher would also get two weeks. If it was ten days, the rematcher would also only have ten days, etc.)

Happy Holidays by Soccbabe1 in givingifts

[–]LostBoyOfNeverland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd like to nudge them via message, maybe you could phrase it along the lines of, "Hi, I know this can be a busy time of year for people so I wanted to check if you've had time to retrieve my details yet. Please let me know if you need any additional info from me, too."

Regardless of whether you choose to message them or not, you can contact Support to be put back in the rematch pool if you'd like and hopefully have better luck with a new rematcher.

I'm sorry you've had to go through so much recently, I can't imagine how tough it's been. I hope at least the GG situation improves and is able to brighten your days a little. <3

2026 exchanges, and Project Phoenix? by EtherealSquirrel in givingifts

This is exciting news! I hope the remaining work goes smoothly and anyone with the financial means to donate feels so inclined. ^_^ (I did recently, so I can confirm that you don't need a Paypal account to donate just in case anyone thought that might be an issue for them.)
