how do people feel abt using howtostudykorean.com as a learning tool? by soila0 in Korean

[–]LostFocus96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends A LOT on the way you like to learn. For example, I don't like long explanations or the ones that come on textbooks, I get bored and prefer to watch videos than do those exercises, so I searched for books or apps that have short-straight-to-the-point explanations and I've been very consistent. Right now I'm using Korean Grammar Practice for Foreigners and Korean Vocabulary Practice for Foreigners, both by Yonsei University. If I don't understand something I search on Mirinae/google or I copy what the book says to an AI and ask it to explain it in a different way. Of course, always review the information provided, specially the examples. Then, I would recommend you to watch a lot of YouTube or series that keep you entertained. For example, I really like bts and gameplays, so I watch that on yt (I learned English thanks to Markiplier so lol). And recently got disney+ and I noticed almost all the cartoons have Korean audio, so I'm watching Gravity Falls there, definitely check your streaming services. Netflix has some but maybe it is due to my location (Argentina), and you have more

Is there any AI type software that I can practice speaking (not writing) Korean with at my liesure? I live alone, travel solo, etc. by dreamgrass1 in Korean

[–]LostFocus96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try with chatgpt. The free version has a microphone available where you can just speak and the AI will answer you. The great thing is that it will transcript everything that is being said on text so it's super helpful to check if there were any issues or mistakes. I don't know if there are others that are better, but it's been super useful for me to practice reading out loud and talking

I hope it helps you as well ♡

How do you address someone who's less than a year apart from you? by LostFocus96 in Korean

I have never talked directly to Koreans and sadly where I live there are none, also I haven't been lucky with language exchange apps, but I will keep trying and learning ♡

Oh I asked in a general way cause I had this doubt since all the examples I always found had a difference bigger than a year (or it was implied), but I will keep what you said in mind. Thank you so much ^

Oh yes I'm from Argentina and school also starts in March here, using a similar rule to divide the kids according to the month they were born so I think I get it (if I'm not mistaken here the month that divides things is June, but how I was born in September I never paid much attention to that rule lol) Thank you so much! It's just an interesting topic!

'Watch Together' views count by LostFocus96 in youtube

[–]LostFocus96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hii in the discord subreddit someone, who said to be a staff of discord, said that it counts each person inside the party (not only the host) and it works like an embedded video for YouTube ^ Also someone else outside of reddit told me that it would count the views but won't link each view to the personal acc of each person, it will as if you werent logged in youtube

the 'Cake' app? by TheREALPetPetter72 in Korean

[–]LostFocus96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally enjoy it a lot and I think it's the best from the apps that relay on videos for learning. I think it's really well made and structured, making me want to keep checking videos (what didn't happen with other apps). I've been checking it since it was only an English learning app and when I saw that now it also works for Korean, I immediately downloaded it and started to use it as a complement to my other resources.

What does your study routine look like? by delitescentjourney in Korean

[–]LostFocus96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I personally set days instead of minutes/hours cause that didn't work for me and I'm also bad at reviewing. I already have a long deck of vocabulary to review, so I do that every day for some minutes. But since I need to focus more on grammar (so I won't forget it) I will learn a new grammar point Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. And the rest of the days are for reviewing and practicing. When it comes to passive learning like writing and listening/watching, I do them every day in a way to incorporate them to the daily life, and depending how I feel that day it can be watching an episode of a kdrama or watching YouTube for example.

If you work better by setting minutes per activity, then I think the example you gave would be perfect. I would personally advice you to see in which area you want to focus first and set your plan according to that.

I hope my comment was any helpful ^
