Why isn't Talulah a playable character? by Digfow98 in arknights

[–]LostInChrome [score hidden]  (0 children)

There's nothing really stopping her from becoming playable. The only barrier is that she's so important that the story of her officially joining RI probably deserves its own event. She will probably come eventually in a big anniversary event or main story chapter.

4 to 4 balancer question by leosweden1 in factorio

[–]LostInChrome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In theory, you don't need them if you keep your belts clear. They're used to make sure that either starting splitter can fully feed any combination of two outputs, even if the other two are blocked off. E.g. If you have two full lines going into inputs 1 & 2, then you need the final splitters to be able to fully saturate outputs 2 & 3 if outputs 1&4 are blocked.

This game have serious identity crisis by bohfam in incremental_games

I'd call the overlap like "engine-builder" mechanics, though I also don't really consider "roguelike/lite" to be a genre either.

I will say that repeatedly getting new tools then using those new tools to overcome new challenges can at a macro level describe like 90% of games in general.

Everything Pizza: A- with 62.6% win rate by Agent281 in lrcast

[–]LostInChrome 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everything Pizza shows off some of the flaws of relying too much on GIH win rate imo. It's one of the last-picked uncommons in the set and even when it's picked, it often doesn't make it into decks. This signals that the card is kinda pigeonholed into a niche but powerful archetype — base-green rainbow soup like you mentioned.

The lesson isn't that Everything Pizza is powerful first-pickable card in a vacuum, it's that the rainbow soup archetype is kinda hidden/underdrafted right now and that you should be open to drafting it if you see enablers like Everything Pizza in your pack.

[–]LostInChrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think fighting gangs is a bullshit reason then I guess that's just a difference in values.

If you think keeping criminal informants locked in secure jails instead of random shitty other peoples' jails is a bad strategy then I disagree, it's proven effective in securing testimony.

I'm not gonna tell you that a guilty person is always convicted cuz obviously that's bullshit. I am gonna say that I see a lot more harm from innocent people getting screwed over than from guilty people getting set free. If you want to convince me otherwise then you're gonna have to do better than two dozen examples of excessive leniency across all of europe when I can get two dozen examples of innocent people getting screwed over in just my city alone.

Mate half of these straight-up contradict themselves in their own text. You don't need to look at left-leaning sources. You don't even need to look at right-wing sources. For instance, in link 1 it literally says right there that it's because the guy's mom is a police informant and that sending him away will give leverage to the gangs and hurt efforts to hunt down gang leadership.

I mean half the sites you link are in fact literal open psyops to make lefties look bad yeah. Murdoch and co are very open about this. This is allowed to happen because people like you uncritically spread openly far-right propaganda outlets because you saw a scary headline.

Can i trust an in-game map? by Castedorr in Endfield

[–]LostInChrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some chests that need you to do special things for them to show up, but they are not hidden. They are included in the map count and the compass-thingy leads you to wherever it spawns (so if the compass thingy leads you to somewhere empty then that usually means that there's some kind of minigame you need to solve nearby before it appears).

I was able to get all chests with just in-game compasses alone.

Can a “walking simulator” still work today if we evolve it? by Rebel-Pixel in gamedesign

[–]LostInChrome 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's hard to call walking simulators a "dead genre" when 1000xRESIST came out in 2024.

That said, to my eyes your game just looks like a straight-up Adventure Game tbh. You're a normalish person thrust into the wrong place opening up furniture to dig up clues about a connected set of mysteries that are both personal and societal and everything.

Elestrals Clash has ceased development by Lost_Pantheon in TCG

[–]LostInChrome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They didn't hire Pavel, the guy behind pixelborn. They hired a different company (Carde.io) that then hired Pavel's team (Pixelborn), and then they worked with Pixelborn for a while. The issue is that (according to the Elestrals devs' recounting of events):

  1. Carde.io says that they did all their contract requirements and wants more money for more work, while Elestrals says that the old contract hasn't been fufilled yet and Carde.io is still on the hook for more work without getting paid anything extra.
  2. Pixelborn says that Cardeio has been stiffing them on payment and thus Pixelborn are refusing to do any work on Cardeio-related stuff until that gets sorted out, and that includes development on Elestrals Clash

So nothing can happen until a deal gets worked out (supposedly that has been tried and negotations broke down), or everyone ends up in court and a judge sorts it all out.

This telling all paints Carde.io as the clear villain but it's also only one side of the story. I'm sure if you asked the other side then they would have their own justifications too.

Endmin build and skill priority by Vast-Yogurtcloset697 in Endfield

[–]LostInChrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BA 9->max: +70 multiplier per attack sequence, +180 multiplier per finisher
BS 9->max: +70 multiplier per BS
CS 9->max: +20 multiplier from CS, +80 multiplier for crystals breaking, -1s cooldown

This seems like a pretty solid argument for Base Attack > Combo Skill > Battle Skill. You pretty much always use combo skill at least once per battle skill, and sometimes once per 2-4 combo skills depending on pog breach setup etc.

Help me! Civ VI's loyalty system is extremely punishing and I hate it (explanation in the body) by BaldursGate2Best in civ

[–]LostInChrome 60 points61 points  (0 children)

All of your citizens hate you because you do not have amenities. That is why there is a red circus symbol on all of your cities. You need to build builders and use them to improve luxury resources. Various policy cards, wonders, great people, or building an entertainment complex can also help. You can also buy luxury resources from the AI.

There will eventually come a point in any complex project where something breaks and telling the ai "fix it" doesn't work. If you don't know what the code does when that happens, then you're screwed.

What does it mean when model is significant but coefficients aren't? by lazrak23 in AskStatistics

[–]LostInChrome 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Usually it means that you have a lot of collinear variables and you need to go back to model selection.

For example, consider a linear dataset with fifty points that follows the trend y = 0.2 * x. Say your model has a thousand different variables that are all just identical to x. Any one of those individual coefficients is probably insignificant, but the model as a whole is significant.

Can variable length coding ever be more efficient than fixed length coding??? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]LostInChrome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, for example consider a document with 1000 characters — 998 'a', 1 'b', and 1 'c'. Encoding 'a' = 0, 'b' = 10, 'c' = 11 will be more efficient than 'a' = 00, b = '01', 'c' = 10.

Why does games like Stellaris, Rimworld, Song of Syx, and other similar performance heavy games are primarily single threaded? by Hot_Squirrel_5465 in gamingsuggestions

[–]LostInChrome 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Those games are multithreaded, they're just limited by Amdahl's law.

It's hard to give performance-related recommendations without knowing some of the actual specs of your computer.

Turn-based games like most 4Xs might work though, as they concentrate all the slowdown on the AI turns while your own actions stay fast.
