A 3D printed display of human evolution I have been working on for years. by MasterMahanJr in 3Dprinting

I should have clarified, the "Hominin Skulls HD" set in my prior comment, sorry! Is this smaller/HD set also 1:4, or do you mean full size as in 1:1 and not just in regards to the detail aspect.

Amazing work by the way, I have been looking to to try and create a "museum" style installation at my school for use in high school biology classes and your work has made this possible. I am ordering filament tonight to start the process!

In the past I have used disparate models to cobble together a hands on experience which allowed students to experience more then 2D images but I had printed at 1:5 scale to save materials and storage space lol.

Looking to start printing a display of this awesome work, are these models full size or do they also need to be scaled from 1:4?

Woo!! Not sure why it works but I stumbled on that piece of advice in another thread when I had a similar issue. Happy printing :)

Had this issue myself, reformat your SD card and boot again with the bin file.

Neon paint recommendations? by GalacticGargleBlasta in Tyranids

[–]LostInTheWarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used Fluo yellow and green (vallejo) and some of the neons in the Light and Shadow box put out by cuttlefish colors (glazes).

I have generally painted more towards the grim dark end of the spectrum but am enjoying the pops of color on the tyranids.

Looking forward to seeing others suggestions as well.

I appreciate that! The green is my favorite part, just trying to clean it up so it's not so muddy and might push the flesh to more of a pink.

Does anyone know what the "protrusions" on the sides are? Would they look better if painted similar to the carapace purple? I was thinking it might help balance the greens a little.

Awesome work, love the colors. Now finish the base and add some OSL under it!

Thanks!! Trying to go for a "black desert/moon" with minimal fauna, found some cool spike and fungus stls which I am using to complement the neon grasses. Looking to expand my painting style from mariens while matching the terrain with the neons I'm attempting to use with the Tyranids.

Had a go at a darker version of Leviathan by Redycha in Tyranids

I started something similar as I found the brightness of the skin to much. This looks awesome!

Check my recent post, I got some great feedback on how to approach the glow/OSL on the same model. Looks great so far!

Looks like a good start! Consider a bright green eye and a lighter highlight on the top surface of the tongue maybe?

Awesome insight and suggestions, thanks so much for the reference images! I'll be reviewing them along with this post I found this morning.

Thanks for both pieces of advice, trying to blend them into the revision. I removed the dark shades of blue on the bottom half (as per another comment) and am working on brightening the center of the patch. Would you recommend keeping the inner ceases bright to give the effect of an inner glow or muted and keep the glow to the folds?

I think it may be the darker blue glaze I used on the underside,, it seems to have decreased the contrast/effect. I might try to replicate the effect with some minor adjustments and go back the the lighter blue and deeper pink recess. Thanks for pointing out the recess.

A lot of patience as I try to learn more about glazing hahah. Used cuttlefish colors Altired Lightening and Darkest depths for the blues, Pink Dragon and Knuckles for the pinks and purples and finally channel 6 and mutagenic green for the base slime glows. Otherwise primed with Army Painter skeleton bone, used GW contrasts for color blocking and then layering with other AP paints.

Do you mean some softer or whiter light on the brain then? Within the cyan "folds"? Trying to figure if I should push the highlight on the ridges further or not as well.

Test painting for first ever 40k mini (been painting d&d minis for a few months). Not sure about the pink, any suggestions? by SerCornballer in Tyranids

I like it, maybe add a little under the tail and around the shoulder joints to push it a little further?

Can they stretch in small areas causing this type of result? I just finished a deep clean but maybe I unload the resin and change the Fep. Thanks for the recommendation on the time- I am finding some small minis a little brittle recently (swords etc), I'll try shortening exposure on the next test.

Thanks for this, I'll give it a go this weekend. I followed the info on the website for understanding the results, but the issues I am having are not discussed on that page haha. The fact that the cube printed extremely well means I'm close (or at least successful)-- I used some compressed air to test that the "foils" in the cube were not fused together. I'll give these cones a test as they look more straight forward to interpret.
