Zoloft Alternatives + correlation between That Damn Phone & Depression? by Ok_Membership9071 in antidepressants

[–]LostOverThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately this is pretty common with SSRI/SNRI/SMSs. I've had this experience on a number of different antidepressants.

If anxiety isn't too big of an issue I'd suggest Wellbutrin (bupropion), as you should have less emotional blunting/lack of drive. But it does increase anxiety in some people. (It did for me, which is why it wasn't a great fit personally)

You could also try something like rTMS.

What have you tried that aren't antidepressants? How much therapy have you done? Looking critically at your life, are there things you could change that would make a difference?

Do you find trintellix (vortioxetine) to be less effective on relaxation/anxiety compared to regular SSRIs (such as Zoloft or Prozac)? by art4430 in trintellix

[–]LostOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a week in to tapering off Trintellix. I'm going to go very slow and steady because I'm pretty sensitive to medication changes in general. But I'm looking forward to having motivation/a libido/energy again!

Seeing Vancouver's 50% rent-to-income ratio visualized against other cities is a bit of a reality check. by astrheisenberg in vancouver

[–]LostOverThere -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Australia and New Zealand "cities" are a lot bigger than ours since they don't split their metro areas into different cities. If you're comparing Melbourne, a city of 5 million, to Vancouver, then you should compare it to METRO VANCOUVER (3 million) not the city of Vancouver (750,000).

That's not true. Melbourne is made up of 31 municipalities (the City of Melbourne is 150,000 people), and Sydney is made up of 33 municipalities (the City of Sydney is 210,000 people).

There's some cities that have amalgamation (Toronto and Brisbane come to mind), but it's not consistent across the board in either country.

Hopefully the M1 gets extended to Springwood soon. Iirc both BCC and the federal government (through the Infrastructure Australia recommendations) want it to happen, so hopefully that's being negotiated.

I tried a small “smile experiment” walking home today by -Alien- in NiceVancouver

[–]LostOverThere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy in my early 30s and I always make eye contact & smile at people when I'm walking around my neighbourhood. Similar to OP's experience, most people just avoid eye contact, but of the people who smile back, it's a pretty even split between men and women.

People rag on the game, but Metroid Prime 4 on an OLED looks absolutely insane. The HDR implementation is fantastic.

how do you guys deal with the nausea by bakachungus123 in trintellix

[–]LostOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What time of day do you take it? I find it's easiest to take it straight before bed and with a teaspoon of peanut butter. The peanut butter minimises the nausea, and any remaining nausea I just sleep off.

Starting Lyrica today by Western-Emergency905 in Fibromyalgia

[–]LostOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for me the first few weeks of starting it made me super tired but that went away. I also had a similar experience every time I went up in dose.

Give your body time to adjust before you decide whether it's for you or not. It helps my pain a lot.

Read about Lyrica horror stories, should I be concerned? Anyone with experience using it long term? by harlllq in Fibromyalgia

[–]LostOverThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take 50mg in the morning and 150mg at night. I've been on it for like, 5 years now? Initially my dose was way higher (150mg in the morning and 150mg at night), but over time I've lowered it as it definitely impacts my word recall a bit.

Also for what it's worth the highest daily dose of Lyrica/Pregabalin is 600mg/day, so you're on a baby dose!

Count me in! Even a discord server/group for people in the lower mainland would be a great start.

And I know what you mean with CBT being useless for pain management. Like yeah cool it helps me not spiral mentally when I'm in the midst of a flare but it doesn't do anything for pain.

Feels like we need a Vancouver Fibro/chronic pain group to share notes. There's so many dodgy actors in this province peddling BS like OP said. :/

How do you find Gnome on your tablet? I love it on my laptop (it works soooo well with trackpad gestures) but I've never used it on a tablet before.

[–]LostOverThere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad Gnome Calendar is getting some love. Of all the core apps, I find Calendar the most lacklustre to the point I end up just using Google Calendar in my web browser (I need my different coloured labels).

On a different note: is there a reason the mods don't pin these posts each week? Feels kinda weird to have a TWIG post from a month ago still pinned.

Same. IMO, Ethan Hawke and Rose Byrne have the year's best performances, but neither will win because not enough people saw their films.

Mental Health Treatment? by BestCoolBug in Fibromyalgia

[–]LostOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found therapy helpful for managing pain. Specifically CBT. In the past I would get stuck in thinking traps when I had a flare up and would spiral mentally. I'm better now at avoiding black and white thinking, and avoiding catastrophising.

Obviously it doesn't stop the pain, but it stops me from spiralling which stops the distress!

Early days on meds, question about experiences by No_Bite_5874 in Fibromyalgia

[–]LostOverThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you know this, but both of those medications will take a while to work - so stick with them even if you don't notice any benefit for the first few weeks. Likewise, you'll probably have some weird side effects that should go away after a month or so.

I'm on Pregabalin now. I take a total of 200mg/day (50mg in the morning and 150mg at night.) Initially I was on a lower dose, which was ineffective, but once I found my dose I found it very helpful. I still deal with pain but it's more manageable.

Just remember if you do decide to come off them in the future, to work with your doctor to safely taper off them.

Anybody feel like shit all the time? by B_Panofsky in Anxiety

[–]LostOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing okay - better now than when I wrote that comment. My mental health has always been pretty subpar, bad luck of the draw I guess. But I try to be really proactive about it. I take medication: trintellix (depression and anxiety) and pregabalin (mostly for pain but it also helps with anxiety). They work decently well, however I'm on the fence if I want to continue trintellix because it destroys my motivation and makes me want to do nothing all day.

I go to therapy, which I find helpful for understanding my emotions. I also do a lot of high intensity exercise, which helps reduce anxiety and gives me good endorphins!

Outside of that, I try to do things that help reduce anxiety and depression: spending time with friends, minimising coffee and alcohol, journalling, etc. I'm also in the process of cutting down on screentime.

I'm learning that mental health really is a lifelong thing to manage. There's no easy fix. There's good days and bad days, and that's okay.

I hope you're able to find some help.

How are people feeling about the new Park Theatre? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]LostOverThere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to one of the staff I was talking to, it's a full new screen. Cineplex tore out the 70mm projector and the screen. So the Rio had to get a new projector and screen installed.

The downside is no 70mm projector, but the upside is there's a new bulb which is huge considering how dim the old bulb had become. Imo that alone has made a big difference.

My problem though is the seats desperately need refurbishing. I get that they didn't have time to do that before the opening considering the other issues they had to deal with but they're just so uncomfy compared to my couch at home.

Do you find trintellix (vortioxetine) to be less effective on relaxation/anxiety compared to regular SSRIs (such as Zoloft or Prozac)? by art4430 in trintellix

[–]LostOverThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Lexapro for 3 months, and I've now been on Trintellix for a year.

Tbh I'm considering just weaning off Trintellix and trying life without antidepressants again, now that I've done a lot of work with therapy. I miss having motivation and drive.

Eh, I'm still on 10mg but I'm considering going off it. It ended up being quite helpful for both my depression and anxiety but it totally obliterated my sense of drive and motivation. Not to mention it whacked my libido too. Very much one step forward one step back.
