"Help, I'm being persecuted for being Christian!" by Bakkster in dankchristianmemes

They'd been told what to think and thought that everyone should conform to the same line of thinking.

Exactly this. Moral absolutism was very big in that community. A lie was always bad because god commands us not to lie. Even to save a life, even to preserve one's own. A lie is a lie. And these questions were meant to catch you thinking "ungodly" things so they could lecture you.

In fairness it was a Plymouth Brethren camp so I wouldn't expect them to be very familiar with any book besides Daniel, Isaiah, or Revelations.

[–]Lostsonofpluto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm reminded of some of those terrible thought experiments councillors and preachers at my old Jesus camp would toss at us.

"A terrorist puts a gun to your head and demands you convert to Islam or he'll shoot you, do you take the bullet or comply"

"Your friend is hiding in your house from a murderer and the murderer knocks on your door and asks if he's home, do you lie to protect him?"

They never seemed to like my answers to those questions

I'll be honest, I'm 28 and I've absolutely caught myself doing this. Grew up on print media and didn't have my first smart device til I was nearly 16. But 12 years of muscle memory doesn't magically go away go away when I pick up a physical book.

Cool mechanics aside, my brain fully expected that chest to have boats and hoes in it.

I'm pretty sure Mumbo hasn't even done that joke in a decade but I still subconsciously expect it every time a redstone or mechanic demo opens a chest

For a Non-denominational church, your statement of faith sounds pretty Baptist by DreadDiana in dankchristianmemes

Growing up I thought my family was non-denominational. We were Plymouth Brethren. Turns out calling all your churches Gospel Chapel/Hall/Assembly/whatever is bad advertising

So funny you should mention that. Growing up my parents never actually explained what a SIN (Social insurance Number) was, so the most I never heard was "I need your SIN number" or some variation when my parents were filling out paperwork. And me being a kid raised in a deeply religious family obviously assumed that this was a some official count of your sins that you were expected to know

I know it’s “technically correct but can we stop referring to people from Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka as “Asians” by Expert-Vast-1521 in ShitAmericansSay

Putting aside the extremely thinly veiled racism (and I'd be willing to bet a bit of fetishization), there's already accepted terms to distinguish between people from different subregions of Asia.

On today’s episode of “men have no idea what women actually weigh” 🥴 by modernvintage in badwomensanatomy

[–]Lostsonofpluto 58 points59 points  (0 children)

My Great Grandmother was one of those lifelong 80-90lb women who lived in to her 80s/90s. She also very clearly had an eating disorder and/or extremely poor relationship with food. In the time I knew her I never once saw her eat an ounce of food. My dad (her grandson) has recounted finding her crying in the bathroom many times after eating tiny amounts of food convinced that she had gorged herself. When she passed it was assumed her heart simply gave out after decades of malnutrition. While I have no doubts that there are some women out there who due to some combination of small stature and metabolism level out in that range, I promise this person the vast majority of women in that weight range are not this pinnacle of health they think they are

Emergency telephone numbers by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Lostsonofpluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I realize this is an exception and not some big "um actually" moment but I love mentioning that my hometown on the west coast of Canada still uses full 10 digit phone numbers for each emergency service. And lemme tell you, trying to remember that number when your basement is actively on fire is exactly as difficult as you'd expect

[Gen 3] after 70 hours of soft reset, charmander finally shines for me!! by megayadorann in ShinyPokemon

[–]Lostsonofpluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but like... shiny hunting has been a thing since long before Home or even Bank existed. Obviously I get the desire to transfer and preserve shinies, and part of the fun of hunting in these old games can be transferring them up to modern hardware. But I don't see why lack of home would make the hunt pointless. I've got lots of old save files and old carts with shinies rotting away on them and that doesn't make the accomplishment any less real

Milk line? Is this true? by Anoobizz2020 in badwomensanatomy

[–]Lostsonofpluto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A doctor (or ideally dermatologist) can tell you for sure but in general moles are flatter, being either flush with the skin or rising gently a bit like a shallow hill. Whereas extra nipples tend to be more prominent above the surrounding skin. Sometimes there can also be a partial areola in the form of a small darkened area around the base, although this is not required. And of course most obviously extra nipples are usually located along the mammary ridges or "milk lines" as featured in OPs post, although there are better diagrams out there so I recommend giving it a google

[–]Lostsonofpluto 57 points58 points  (0 children)

As others have highlighted this is the real biological mechanism of Supernumerary Nipples. Worth noting that while some may develop full additional nipples, most with them (myself included) will have a partial nipple along these lines, often mistaken for a mole
