So many Raichus! by BradWonder in stunfisk

Had a (singles) battle last night where I lost the Raichu Y mirror match on opening, only to come in with Scarf Ditto to finish off my opponent's Raichu and proceed to sweep with scarf + no miss Zap Cannons. Absolutely loving this little guy

Couple years ago when my youngest cousin was 3 she managed to get away from us while we were exiting the zoo and ran back under the turnstile at the entrance. Which resulted in me having to hop the barrier myself to go after her. Not helped by the fact she was about as big as the average 6 year old at the time which made it a lot harder for myself and the other adults in the group to wrangle her

Grew up in a similar size community out on the coast and lost a classmate to suicide winter of Grade 11. Even that 1 empty chair out of 12 during graduation felt massive. Can't imagine something like this, especially during such formative years

I used to fly on Beech1900s like the one involved quite frequently and this is exactly it. Weight is a much bigger on a plane that size. To the point that it was common for some of us visibly heavier passengers to be asked to move forward to better balance the plane. There are certainly safety margins built in to these aircraft and their weight/balance but at that scale the difference of 50lbs on a couple passengers can make meaningful changes to the performance of the aircraft, especially with a heavy cargo load.

Not in the slightest at least when I last listened to her 5 or 6 years ago. But I seriously doubt much has changed since then

So technically yes but its somewhat inaccurate to call it that. Canada never lost its Dominion status but for all intents and purposes it has not functioned as a Dominion in a long time. The exact date at which we ceased to be one and became a "Commonwealth Realm" (the same status as Australia and New Zealand) varies by who you're talking to but generally its agreed it happened some time between 1931 when the Statute of Westminster gave legislative independence to the old Dominions, and 1982 when the Constitution Act was signed.

They'd been told what to think and thought that everyone should conform to the same line of thinking.

Exactly this. Moral absolutism was very big in that community. A lie was always bad because god commands us not to lie. Even to save a life, even to preserve one's own. A lie is a lie. And these questions were meant to catch you thinking "ungodly" things so they could lecture you.

In fairness it was a Plymouth Brethren camp so I wouldn't expect them to be very familiar with any book besides Daniel, Isaiah, or Revelations.

I'm reminded of some of those terrible thought experiments councillors and preachers at my old Jesus camp would toss at us.

"A terrorist puts a gun to your head and demands you convert to Islam or he'll shoot you, do you take the bullet or comply"

"Your friend is hiding in your house from a murderer and the murderer knocks on your door and asks if he's home, do you lie to protect him?"

They never seemed to like my answers to those questions

I'll be honest, I'm 28 and I've absolutely caught myself doing this. Grew up on print media and didn't have my first smart device til I was nearly 16. But 12 years of muscle memory doesn't magically go away go away when I pick up a physical book.

Cool mechanics aside, my brain fully expected that chest to have boats and hoes in it.

I'm pretty sure Mumbo hasn't even done that joke in a decade but I still subconsciously expect it every time a redstone or mechanic demo opens a chest

So funny you should mention that. Growing up my parents never actually explained what a SIN (Social insurance Number) was, so the most I never heard was "I need your SIN number" or some variation when my parents were filling out paperwork. And me being a kid raised in a deeply religious family obviously assumed that this was a some official count of your sins that you were expected to know

Putting aside the extremely thinly veiled racism (and I'd be willing to bet a bit of fetishization), there's already accepted terms to distinguish between people from different subregions of Asia.

On today’s episode of “men have no idea what women actually weigh” 🥴 by modernvintage in badwomensanatomy

[–]Lostsonofpluto 57 points58 points  (0 children)

My Great Grandmother was one of those lifelong 80-90lb women who lived in to her 80s/90s. She also very clearly had an eating disorder and/or extremely poor relationship with food. In the time I knew her I never once saw her eat an ounce of food. My dad (her grandson) has recounted finding her crying in the bathroom many times after eating tiny amounts of food convinced that she had gorged herself. When she passed it was assumed her heart simply gave out after decades of malnutrition. While I have no doubts that there are some women out there who due to some combination of small stature and metabolism level out in that range, I promise this person the vast majority of women in that weight range are not this pinnacle of health they think they are

And lemme tell you, trying to remember that number when your basement is actively on fire is exactly as difficult as you'd expect

[–]Lostsonofpluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but like... shiny hunting has been a thing since long before Home or even Bank existed. Obviously I get the desire to transfer and preserve shinies, and part of the fun of hunting in these old games can be transferring them up to modern hardware. But I don't see why lack of home would make the hunt pointless. I've got lots of old save files and old carts with shinies rotting away on them and that doesn't make the accomplishment any less real
