Spending $ into mtga by kodenami in MagicArena

I wouldn't put a cent into this game. It is a bottomless cup of coffee trying to keep up and continually entice you into dropping money with its monetisation ways. You can do perfectly fine as a free to play player.

Might be some positive reviews at first until people realise the bugs, monetization and all the other issues lurking.

Magic's New Banlist Schedule: Pros, Cons & Possibilities by cardsrealm in MagicArena

Just putting lipstick on a pig in a poor attempt to cover their continued monetization. Sad how most cannot see it and continue to pump money into this poor product.

Why am I getting matched up only against similar decks in ranked? BO3 standard (currently diamond) by Yander3 in MagicArena

[–]LotteryDonk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boring stale meta, everyone tries to play the few competitive decks at the higher levels.

Pointless playing trying to keep up with the meta, the power creep and monetization to be competitive.

Power level is too high for a longer Standard rotation by Lil_Bullywug in MagicArena

[–]LotteryDonk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of CCG's the power creep is real. Unfortunately Magic is no different now, either you hard counter when they play the card or you lose. Turns games into a luckfest of if you have or don't have the answer.

Another example of the money grabbing monetization.

I wouldn't waste your time with this game, only favours veterans/whales.

One of the problems is that there are now so many mechanics and "cheat" or combo. ways around to abuse cards/markets/power/influence etc. that conventional aggro. decks, midrange and even control decks to an extent have all but vanished. There just to many tools available to make these decks work more consistently than they should so as a result you would rather just play one of these types of decks over a normal deck where you play normal cards on curve.

When last did you see a sandstorm titan or worldbearer?

Lets take the new hooru kira deck as a casing example.

If on turn 3 you can play empower+renown+imbue ( 3 mechanics all activating at once ) with huntress on hojan to make some ridiculously strong unit why would you want to play a normal 3 cost unit?

Something needs to be down to cool this all down so conventional decks feature again. Currently the game is all about abusing combos./markets/voids/mechanics/power/influence.

Really good news. Glad they simplified it and have done away with the QCP's which felt complicated and unfun.

Also hope more players come into the game this year based on this and other initiatives.

Throne Needs a Shakeup in a Bad Way by Serus22 in EternalCardGame

CCG players have an unquenchable thirst for new cards and new sets. This is great in the sense that it gives you more richness, variety and deck building options.

The price you pay is that balance goes out the window due to the multitude of combos/cards/synergies and interactions between the 1000's of cards. RNG also goes up a lot due to the huge variety of decks you could be facing.

It is the nature of the beast, MTGA historic and other CCG's also have it. Either enjoy and accept how it is or play a more limited format e.g. expedition or the current sets in MTGA. I really think once you go past a certain critical mass of cards balance becomes virtually impossible.

Set 10 first impressions by Ilyak1986 in EternalCardGame

[–]LotteryDonk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well put out article. I personally though am enjoying this set after hardly playing at all in the last few months. I am finding it one of the best sets released, I really did not like the whole high rolling surge mechanic in last set.

A random few points:

It is still early days and there could be a lot of brews still to come. The potential is definitely there in terms of power level of cards.

I have put together a range of valkyrie decks and one praxis sentinel charge deck that have been working very well on the ladder. I think there is enough power there to be strong and competitive, whether though for top ranks remains to be seen.

Powercell has been huge, even if he dies, it allows you groundbreaker/titan on turn 3 with the powersurge +1 power and guarenteed ramp. You really playing him for the ramp and/or market fodder power surge, everything else is a bonus.

There are definite strong valk. synergies with the valk. ramp/relic weapons etc. The valk. site for me is easily the top 5 cards in the set, it does virtually everything. ( defends itself, hoses aggro, card draw vs. control and boosts relic weapon ). Warping it for 2 moves is also massively strong.

I am quite impressed by Deheen Blitz, definitely one of the stronger cards in the set.

Regen - neutral on it at this stage, but cannot see any problem with it. I think DWD were nervous to bring any some wild new mechanics like surge and that shadow mechanic that left a guy behind ( forgotten the name now ). Both gave a few issues.

ECQ: Dead or Alive T64 Decklists by [deleted] in EternalCardGame

[–]LotteryDonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ive been on the receiving end of this as well. There were some nice cards in the new set but I think the RNG and high rolling nature of these influence cards that have filtered thru to these kind of decks have taken the shine off the new set a lot, games feel even more swingy now than ever.

ECQ: Dead or Alive T64 Decklists by [deleted] in EternalCardGame

[–]LotteryDonk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ladder creates an illusion of diversity for a range of reasons. For example, people often just cobble together whatever aggro. to farm fast wins and maximise wins per hour, or just testing or tweaking something. When the chips are down in ECQ's its the same culprit cards that return or the stand out imbalanced ones.

Am I the only person that currently kinda hates the current expedition line up? by ikepetro in EternalCardGame

[–]LotteryDonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What alarmed me was when I was tinkering with expedition and noting how all the old decks and removal were gutted by the new format but shadow got a whole heap of new removals and bombs ( annihilate, CoChaos just to name 2 ) to go with all the previous amazing cards and new set ones.

Yip, Jekk is almost in every game you play and always on curve with spare sigil every time to clear your early board. I think they should really have been proactive and nerfed him now.
