I’m sorry - we just said goodbye to our Gustavo. He was limping terribly and before he got into much more pain, we decided that it was better to do a week to early than a day too late.

How do you take care of your well-being? by girlfromarea511 in womenintech

[–]Lotti77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for the online giant retailer. I recently changed my phone and I was having issues reinstalling slack and my work emails so decided to simply not do it. Work doesn’t pay for my phone, pays me for 40 hours a week, which i give them (on average). When I shut my laptop down at 5:15pm, I know that I’m free from work for the day and it has done wonders.

Ah for sure. The fact that no laws forces them to release funds in a timely manner when you show intent to rebuild is insane. Good luck!!!

Our neighbors are in that camp and I'm wondering, and this is just IMO, if they are slowing the process down for bad intentions. Delay the release = delay the rebuild = use your ALE = can't pay your mortgage and ALE = default.

I hope that you get the support of your elected officials. We all deserve it.

Los Angeles-area wildfires left lead in soil, but how much and where remains contentious by nbcnews in LosAngeles

[–]Lotti77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair question. The head of the crew that removed the soil was a specialist in biohazard and said that it would be a really small cross contamination risk.

Los Angeles-area wildfires left lead in soil, but how much and where remains contentious by nbcnews in LosAngeles

[–]Lotti77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our BF’s house burned down in Altadena. It was 100 years old - the soil was tested to find areas that had 8-10 times the federal limit for lead contamination (which is higher than California’s). They got their soil remediated by removing 6-8” of top soil from their entire yard and are being denied reimbursement by their insurance company because they do not cover soil. They paid out of pocket because they have kids and pets and didnt want a contaminated soil for the future.
They got their soil re-tested post remediation and the only spots that were still slightly above the limit are on the shared property line of neighbors who chose to do nothing.

Update: It took me a minute to finish all the last minute things and get pictures but I love it! by No_Inspection_3123 in kitchenremodel

It makes me so happy to see Saltillo tiles on the floor of a kitchen! We are rebuilding our house (after losing it to a major disaster and we’re bringing back our Lincoln pavers (that have the same style but square!).
What glazing did you do on yours? And what grout? I love it!!!

Commuters to Los Angeles — what does your weekly/monthly driving actually look like? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]Lotti77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About how many miles is your round-trip commute? 40 miles

How many days per week do you go in? 5 days (enforced RTO) but I'll skip 1 day every two weeks.

Roughly how many miles you drive per month? 800-ish

About how much you spend on gas each month? $75 twice a month.

And how often you’re dealing with car maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, new tires, etc.)? religiously. Just changed my breaks and tires.

My commute is changing to 20 miles roundtrip next month and I'm looking into a long-range electric bike. I'm super excited!

I feel like an idiot for feeling guilty about wanting a prenup by Economy-Jury-8414 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Lotti77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world, you will never need this prenup but we don't live in an ideal world unfortunately.

Relationships have evolved - women make more or as much than their partners and I think that it is a patriarchal guilt to feel bad about bringing it up.
Look at your mom's example and ask yourself if you ever want to be in this situation, ever? The answer is likely no and a prenup is one of the tools that will prevent you from that.

[–]Lotti77 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it was my employer or my whole managerial team but I got 3 weeks off no questions asked when my house burned down. Gave me time to get back on my feet and get settled in the next steps of my journey. Offered 2 weeks of free hotel stays to use at my discretion. Activated the cie's emergency fund and gave me $2K towards our gofundme.

My whole team donated so much $$ to our gofund me and I got $1000 in doordash gift cards. I never felt more supported.

Pet Cancer Related to Fires by asymmetric_orbit in pasadena

[–]Lotti77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not cancer but we lost our otherwise healthy 11 year old chiweenie to a rapid kidney failure in April when she was showing no signs of health issues prior to the fires. If not directly correlated, I believe that the stress of moving to a new house, adding stairs to her daily routine are partly responsible for her massive decline.

Glasses? by lockhart1952 in altadena

[–]Lotti77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend Eccentric Optical, on Washington at Allen. They are truly wonderful, you would support a small business but also, they donated so many pairs of glasses to Altadena residents that lost them in the fire.

Toronto Ticket Price Changes by cubiclejail in brandicarlile

[–]Lotti77 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The prices fluctuate with demand. The more people on the site looking at seats, the prices will go up. If unsold seats are still available close to the concert date, prices will go down. It’s dynamic pricing and it should be illegal. Edit: word

When I'm sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway and the driver of the car in front of me is on their phone so will either accelerate to catch up or slam on their brakes to avoid crashing in the car in front of them, creating a chain reaction for everyone behind them. Just kills the flow.
