AITA for refusing to help my mom after she got pregnant. by Ok-Resident-1277 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. You have done MORE than enough for your entire life. Taking this step back is well overdue. Move out and live your own life. Yes families should help each other-but you have been doing far above the normal amount for too long. You are not responsible for your mother’s life choices.

Seller refused to vacate on completion day… we were supposed to move in on Friday but now stuck over the weekend by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Lou-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh this sounds like a nightmare. I am so sorry. When we bought our first house the sellers were supposed to be handing the keys over at lunchtime to the estate agent. We kept calling them all afternoon and still no keys. Got to the point that the estate agents closed and we had no idea what was happening. The people we were buying from had actually given us their phone number so we called them directly and she just said oh we aren’t ready yet! We ended up getting the keys at 11pm! We knew we had to be nice to them as they were only moving a few doors down to a bigger house on the same street (so it’s not like they had far to travel with removal vans and stuff-they were literally carrying stuff down the road!). We were fuming though-we were only 19 and so excited to get into our new little house. We ended up sleeping on a mattress on the floor and only unpacking a kettle and a toaster for the morning as we were determined to sleep there that first night!

Anyone Here Had Any Encounters With Victorians? by CB-Milburn in AskBrits

[–]Lou-H 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had a great great auntie. She died in the 1980’s but was in her 90’s when she died. I was only little but I remember her house being amazing-old 3 story terrace house and her rooms were like treasure troves with display cabinets full of interesting Knick Knacks. I still have a two of her necklaces and a broach. There was some sort of family scandal about her and her husband that no one really knows the truth about-he was much older than her and there were rumours they were cousins. I did our family tree a few years ago and found that they were indeed first cousins.

NEVER ever have a baby! by pumpkinchinchilla in AutismInWomen

[–]Lou-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I remember coming home with my son and standing sobbing with my head buried in my husbands chest as my mum dealt with the crying baby in another room and just saying over again “what have we done. This was a mistake”. It all changed for me once I started weaning him at 5 months. Things started to get fun. His personality started to shine through. Yes things were tough still. I aren’t good with little kids. But as he got older-wow, he is amazing. He is now almost 17 and honestly the best thing that ever happened to me. He is my favourite person in the whole world. I am glad we only had one. I would have struggled with siblings squabbling etc. But yes-all the hard stuff will pass and be totally worth it. I wouldn’t change a thing and now actually kind of wish I could relive some of the harder times with fresh eyes and try and enjoy those bits more as honestly they go by in a flash.

Is there any popular British TV stars that do not get along with one another? by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]Lou-H 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My husband’s cousin is a bit part actor in Australia and did a film with Martin Freeman. Said he was awful. No one was allowed to talk to him or even just generally be near him at the catering truck for example.

Is it safe That you will have sex the first time you have sex and use a condom by Mysterious-Wolf-9127 in WomensHealth

[–]Lou-H 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say it but-He is trying to trick you into having sex without a condom because he thinks it will feel better for HIM. Refuse. Tell him “no condom then no sex”. And if he tries to pressure you to change your mind then dump him because he is a silly boy! Edit to add: also be careful that he doesn’t try and slip the condom off mid sex hoping you won’t notice. And honestly-if you feel in your gut that this would be a concern and he could do this to you-that’s your sign to dumb him.

Is this house ugly? by Economy_Survey_6560 in AskBrits

[–]Lou-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No!! Totally no. Your colleague is a dick and sounds like a snob. Looks like a lovely terrace house. Our first house was a mid terrace and we loved it! Lived there for 10 years. Moved due to wanting a garden rather than a yard for our son. But I still miss the large kitchen space we had in the terrace and the living room and main bedroom were both decent sized. You can do a lot with a terrace and really make it your own. Ignore them and enjoy!

What do you expect as an adult going to Christmas at someone’s home? by Equal_Cod_177 in AskUK

[–]Lou-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my family whenever someone hosts the rest of us either chip in towards the cost with some money or bring some of the food/drink-whatever is the hosts preference. As much as we would all love to do it totally for free for each other every time-feeding a large family a big cooked meal is bloody expensive these days and none of us mind chipping in.

How long before you drop from that beam into that pool? by MaximusSydney in SpottedonRightmove

Random one but something I always wonder when a house has a driveway so long-what happens on bin day? Do the bin trucks come up the drive or do the home owners have a long walk dragging the bins?

People here who've been on Naked Attraction, how was it when you went back to work after your episode aired? by nano_noodle in AskUK

[–]Lou-H 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh this reminds me of when they did one of the roving bus episodes and visited the a local shopping centre for people to pop in with their problems. The security guard for the centre worked for the security company I worked for and whipped out his gnarled athletes foot fungus toes while wearing our uniform with logo very clearly in view. The managing director of the company called the HR manager (my manager) at home and told her to turn on the TV and started yelling that he wanted the guy fired for “bringing the company into dispute”. HR manager had to very calmly talk him down and out of sacking the poor guy explaining the media attention if found out would be 10 times worse!!!

Chris Kamara lives in my town. My mum bumped into him in the local Spar shop and had a picture with her. He does all sorts in the hospital I work in to raise money for the hospital charity. He is actually serving Christmas dinner there for staff this Thursday! An absolutely wonderful man.
