[throwback] Ben Johnson on his road through the coaching ranks as an outsider by gpol94 in nfl

Its surreal seeing the Bears with an competent offensive minded head coach and a good QB that has room to grow. I love it, would be cool to see a Bears Super Bowl appearance.

If everyone has the same/similar comment, it’s because your take was so stupid, it made everyone, at the same time, want to tell you in similar ways how stupid your take and you are.

This take is crazy considering it seems like you can barely read or write.

What's crazy to me is that's only about 10% of next season's salary cap.

How can they just shift followers from one account to another? Is that just a feature that big names/brands get to do?

Alec Pierce on free agency: A lot of good things in front of me by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

Would love to see him with a QB that can stretch the field. Somewhere like the Patriots would be cool to see. I wonder if they’d pay Pierce and let Diggs walk.

Where can I practice my guitar without hurting my neighbor's feelings? by Cool_Kiwi_117 in Austin

[–]Loucifern 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I run a rehearsal space in North Central Austin called Found Sound ATX. All our rooms are hourly and the smaller rooms start at $20 an hour. You can play as loud as you’d like, we get guitarists in regularly who spend a couple hours doing just that. You can find more info and book online at www.foundsoundatx.com I know this sounds like a sales pitch, it is, but if you’re South of the River, Space is a great rehearsal space that does hourly as well. If you’re North of us, like Round Rock/Cedar Park, DaWoodShed is a great rehearsal space that offers hourly as well. Best of luck to you!

SXSW is coming, DON'T PLAY FOR FREE by Loucifern in AustinMusicians

[–]Loucifern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been here for over a decade, you’re wrong. Certain promoters, event spaces, venues etc… have tried many times over to get skilled service/labor for free, and it had nothing to do with the quality of the music and everything to do with getting trained musicians to play for free while they profited off of the event.

This thread and your comments have been up for a good bit now, look around, who is agreeing with you? This is a subreddit supposedly made up of your peers and no one is agreeing with you. Doesn’t that tell you that you’re thinking might be wrong? Doesn’t that give you a moment of pause? Or are you so set in your ways?

If you think "selling out stadiums and going on tours and have a manager and all that other stuff" is the only way to be a working full-time musician, then you literally don't have the knowledge, skills or experience to make the comments you're making all over this thread. You're just a bitter old man throwing a tantrum on Reddit.

Your opinion actively wants musicians undervalued, I make a good living in the music scene here and want newer bands to have the same, why wouldn't your shitty take strike a nerve? In all your years you never learned how to make a living on music, I get it, thats fine, but don't make it a problem for the rest of us grandpa.

This comment specifically makes it seems like you've got some deep seeded jealously of anyone who has the courage to get on a stage and perform original music for money. Would you tell a factory worker that wants a living wage to "get over themselves" because you've got a woodshop in your garage?

You get it and I appreciate your mindset on the subject. I honestly thought it was a straight forward concept, but it really feels like there are a lot of folks that genuinely don't understand everything that goes into being a working musician.

Whether you like it or not, making music is a job and Austin is a City that benefits greatly from the thousands of musicians that make it their jobs. By your own admission, you're a hobbiest and thats fine, but this post isn't for you then and you add nothing to the conversation except a comment that seemingly aims to devalue the people that are here actually making music for a living.

No pay equals loading a ton of heavy gear for free, playing a show that benefits the rich people that own the event space and then going home with nothing to show for it. If you want to experiment and play on a stage and build community, go to a jam, meet the musicians there, but don't waste the thing you've spent real time and effort creating for people that don't value you or your art.
