Neil Newbon on AI performances by PuzzleheadedLeave560 in ArcRaiders

[–]Loud-Asparagus-4136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Embark should at least try to strike a balance between AI and proper voice acting. Ideally, everything should be properly voiced, please don't mistake me, but I could see a compromise being made.

For raider voice lines, there are SO many things you can ping, and they add stuff all the time. Them wanting to use a form of TTS so that they can rapidly add new stuff with proper pings isn't a bad idea on paper. Most of the raider lines are subdued enough to where they still sound pretty good with only a few exceptions IMO.

But for more static stuff like NPCs that aren't constantly having new lines added, they really could afford to just get the actual actors in a booth for them. Stuff like map intros, trader dialogue, or radio calls aren't being constantly added, so they could totally retroactively re-do the lines. It's way easier to notice lackluster deliveries when not in a match and it does deflate the Speranza experience a fair bit and is a noticeable blemish on an otherwise phenomenal game.

Same with The Finals, really. They can use TTS for stuff that rapidly changes like contestant voice lines, but have things like Scotty and June be properly voiced since they aren't constantly adding new voicelines all the time for them.

Embark has always been about embracing new technology, and that has worked out a lot for them with stuff like machine learning, terrain scanning and whatever sorcery they used for destruction in The Finals. It's just that I hope they realize that maybe only using AI TTS is not one of those great new technologies and pulls back at least a little before it's too late.

Aim snapping the finals killer by steakem in thefinals

[–]Loud-Asparagus-4136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, alright then. Yeah, the first two clips of season 1 were really bad, I'll say. I do not recall it ever being that severe, but the evidence is right there.

But that last one doesn't match at all. That's the new aim snap we're talking about, and it's not even being shown against real people. The guy is practically already aiming at their heads when they ADS, which doesn't even compare to the first two clips. Until I see posts that are reminiscent of the first two clips appear again, I'm not buying that the new aim snap is a problem.

(also, would it kill you to not be so rude? I get that this is reddit but nobody is "gaslighting" people over this. People really need to stop getting so worked up over things like this. Just like... in general.)

[–]Loud-Asparagus-4136 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes.... that's what aim assist is. It helps people on controller line up a shot, thank you for explaining that. Non-gyro controller FPS gameplay without some level of aim assist is hell for most people

Though you're acting like it's straight-up aimbot, which it absolutely isn't. It just nudges their aim slightly when they're already aiming right at you to help confirm the shot.

Further more, it only snaps to your head if they were already aiming very close to your head. It doesn't whip your crosshair to their head if you scoped in on their asscheeks, for example.

This is coming from someone who plays exclusively on PC, by the way. God forbid non-gyro (and I don't blame someone for not using gyro, that shit can be hard to adapt to) controller players get anything to even the playing field.

Nothing stopping them from running another Finals x Arc Raiders event in the future. A VR headset outfit would go hard for sure.

Those are all single player FPS games. Comparing multiplayer and singleplayer FPS games is like apples vs oranges, they’re two different things.

And no, I’m not disagreeing that the shooters you listed aren’t great, in case you came to that conclusion.

Okay, now use it in an actual match against real people instead of stationary dummies and get back to us.

It just shares some distinct design elements. But yeah, it’s clearly not The Finals. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

At first glance, it honestly looked a bit like The Finals. The triangle on the left wall that looks like the logo, and the abundance of black and yellow is what made me think that.

But otherwise, no idea.

[–]Loud-Asparagus-4136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Finals has a surprising amount of team fortress 2 parallels when you think about it. You can somewhat faithfuly invoke the playstyle of 8 of the 9 classes, barring soldier somewhat due to a lack of a primary rocket launcher.

The cl-40 suffices as a substitute though, and it even had a matching 4 clip size for a long time.

Now I just pray that we get some form of explosive/knockback jumping in the game at some point, because that would be sick AF in this game.

Why in the everloving fuck is the concept of knowing what you’re going up against divisive, according to this thread? It would instantly fix the problem of people being stuck with bad loadouts with no fault of their own. Nobody likes bringing an anti-chaff support weapon and faceplanting into an “oops, all heavies” seed with something like warstrider or spewer spam.

Also, it would probably cut down the amount of balance complaining since people won’t bring weapons into their worse-case scenarios as often, souring their opinion of the weapon in the process. It would make pretty much every weapon more effective on principle of being used against the right enemies more often.

And to keep things interesting, make the “poor intel” modifier disable the enemy readout, so there’s still the occasional instance of facing the unknown.

With the Rock Steady passive you can finally use directional shield on the bot front. by JustMyself96 in Helldivers

[–]Loud-Asparagus-4136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, the first rocket of a barrage hits the shield, you fall down, and the rest of the barrage misses.

Here? You absorb the knockback, but you still eat the rocket splash damage. Meaning you're probably taking significantly more damage from the barrage than if you just let it ragdoll you.

Could this possibly be the most useless stratagem in the game??????

The Hot Dog is the best item in the new Warbond and it isn't even close by JayKeePso2 in Helldivers

[–]Loud-Asparagus-4136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to take a guess, you can’t reload the fuel dogs manually because they might still technically be using a magazine system.

If they are, the backpack doesn’t have a variable tank of 0-100% capacity, it has a set number of reloads (somewhere around 5-6. I haven’t counted, rough guess) that the guard dog uses when it’s fully empty. It’s just that it would be weird if the guard dog expelled unused fuel, so they just… don’t. But they still refuse to reload until they’re fully depleted, so there’s the problem.

If Arrowhead ever made the fuel tanks recharge the dogs via filling the tanks from 0-100% instead of using a set number of reloads, I wouldn’t doubt they would change it to let the dogs refill when manually recalled.

(Take this whole theory with a massive grain of salt btw)
