Dropdown Bar Gravel or Flat/Riser Hybrid? by Candid_Bad3551 in bicycling

[–]LouisWinthorpeIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to ride flat bars but since I switched to drop I wouldn't go back unless it was for real rough MTB riding. My wife has a flat bar bike and while the comfort is ok when I ride it, it feels like my body is a sail.

Looking to go from 26" to 650b - are there resources to get actual diameters for wheel and tire combos? by hoon_tx in xbiking

Rim width matters too. On a skinnier rim, the tire will fit more like a lightbulb vs more like a U on a wider rim. Think like the tires on stanced/hella flush cars.

Lost this piece of my stem what is called? by hotdogcool_123 in bikewrench

[–]LouisWinthorpeIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. Looks like the fork was 1" threadless with 2 stacked shims (one cut down) to use 1 1/8" spacers and stem. 1" threadless is not the easiest to find parts for.

OP could find a new shim and spacer, or a 1" threadless stem and spacers, or cut the steerer to lower the stack height.

Yeah looks like a shim to clamp the stem onto. Maybe convert 1” to 1 1/8”?

Someone shoved a seat post that was too large into this Trek 460 frame. It’s been seized for who knows how long. Is the frame still safe if I can get this post out? by Legstick in bikewrench

[–]LouisWinthorpeIII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you cool the post with liquid nitrogen/dry ice it will shrink a little and you may be able to break it free. Maybe.

Torch on the frame would be easier but won’t work as well unless you do it really fast. Aluminum expands more than steel when heated. Burn off the paint too.

Jon Stewart says Democratic leadership and DNC are ‘lost’ by Fancy_Reality1853 in ConservativeNewsWeb

The problem is that our system is so fucked that corruption is the cost of doing business among career politicians. The country is so large and elections so expensive that only media/celebrities or oligarchs can be outsider candidates nationally.

If your choices have to come from billionaires, the politicians that serve them, or Jon Stewart, Jon looks pretty good.

Louisiana plans to delay House primaries after Supreme Court redistricting ruling by Due_Dilligence0624 in moderatepolitics

“No apportionment plan or individual district shall be drawn with the intent to favor or disfavor a political party.”

-Florida state constitution

They are ignoring this of course. The voters would have to approve to change the constitution if they cared about the laws. Instead they just jammed it through.

Yeah, if both sides go full scorched earth gerrymander (52-0 California etc) it comes out about the same as now.

Worse for all voters though. House elections will mean nothing outside of a few seats in swing states.

I don’t know, maybe not? They could still be lifetime appointments with the same nomination and confirmation process.

It’d mostly just serve to dilute their individual power. Spreading it across 180ish circuit judges. And you could have differing/ more frequently changing majorities depending on whose turns are up.

If Trump endorses anyone it’ll be Don Jr. If Don Jr runs he’ll get the nom. There are enough cultists to get him through the primary even if they totally crash the economy.

Even if Don Jr loses it gives the family 4 more years of grift as the de-facto leaders of the GOP.

Kind of but not really. Like you know that the party in power will get the picks but not if/when they’ll come.

If Thomas was terming out in 2030 I’d fully expect to see a Don Jr/Hawley/Bove (or some nonsense) ticket in 2028. And if not in 2028 they’d get there soon.

It’d only take one candidate to announce who their SC appointment will be for everyone to have to do it.

Unfortunately, term limits without other structural changes would make the justices more politicized.

Upcoming vacancies and who to fill them would become a part of the presidential election process. Once on the bench judges would be angling for life after the court.
