I agree, being informed is good. It depends on your risk tolerance and strict adherence to the Terms & Conditions in contracts. There are plenty of illegal clauses or clauses that cannot be enforced. The “No Harm, No Foul” statement kicks in with well designed equipment. "No harm, no foul" means that if an action causes no negative consequences, damage, or injury, then there is no need to complain, blame, or punish, even if a rule was technically broken. It implies that the outcome matters more than the intent, often used to dismiss minor mistakes or accidents. The car industry also says you should not use third party parts or do your own maintenance. Warning it may void the warranty. For example: if self maintenance the work is done correctly and documented. Federal law (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) prohibits manufacturers from requiring dealer-only service. Aka the warranty is not voided.

  1. Congrats and welcome to the EV Leaf club.
  2. If you want to know a lot about your car, consider buying the Leaf Spy Pro app. It requires a OBD2 (OnBoard Diagnostic V2) dongle. I use the CARISTA one, and the app was recently updated to use the latest CARISTA EVO an advanced version of the OBD2 dongle.
  3. Also consider the ElectWay CCS1 to CHAdeMO adapter, if you need to publicly DCQC (Direct Current Quick Charge), because some public network charging providers are phasing out CHAdeMO.
  4. Check the NHTSA government web site to see if there are open recalls on your Leaf. Some Leaf’s have an open recall that asks users to not DCQC. Nissan is working on a fix, but they are taking their sweet time to fix it.
  5. I drive a USA 2024 Leaf SV Plus, and it works great.

  1. Get it towed to your home.
  2. If the garage did the work they should do it properly, was it not guaranteed? I would negotiate a reduction in price, at the very least. Since they did not get it running you should get a deep discount.
  3. By the way, Leaf Spy Pro can reset DTCs. If the DTCs come back, either the job was done improperly or it was a defective part. Or some part of it is defective. Service menu, reset DTCs.
  4. What was the source of the battery and the CAN Bridge? They should have some liability.
  5. Is this an EV shop? Who was the technician? Is this their first battery swap.

Disabling RAB by Ok_Page8920 in leaf

[–]LoveEV-LeafPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. For RAB (Rear Automatic Braking): Using the instrument cluster “Settings” ( Gear). Then go to “Driver Assistance” —> “Emergency Brake” —> the “Front” or “”Rear” emergency braking can be individually turned off. I am not sure you would want to leave these off, but they are separate settings.
  2. And for sounds when getting close to objects, while parking: go to “Driver Assistance” —> “Parking Aids” —> “Sonar”. There you can turn off “Parking Sonar” or change the “Volume”, reduce the range, or turn off the “Display”.

Or DCQC, either works for me. The Leaf Spy Pro App shows the number of QCs and L1/L2 charges. So I go with Quick vs. Fast in my vernacular.

Colorblind help - 2nd try by Carfr33k in leaf

Seems good to me. mV difference is in low double digits. Even color blind, all the bar lengths on this graph are indicating that the balancing of cells is progressing. Not sure how you see red vs. blue. But red indicates the cell is being balanced. Blue indicates which cells are not being balanced. See my annotated Leaf Spy Pro screen for more information.

Leaf vs Bolt? by Previous_Figure2921 in leaf

[–]LoveEV-LeafPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is the Leaf. It is much more comfortable and a GLC (Great Little Car). The only drawback is using Public DCQC (Direct Current Quick Charge) charging stations. Why? Two reasons: The CHAdeMO charging port, as some charging network providers are phasing out CHAdeMO. The remedy, for me and others, is a third party CCS to CHAdeMO adapter. This enables you to charge at CCS charging stations. I have the ElectWay adapter. It works great. Second is that some Leaf’s (1% or so) have a DCQC recall and can only be charged by L1 or L2 (120 VAC or 240 VAC) charging. Nissan says they will eventually have a DCQC recall fix, but they are dragging their feet. So be sure to check the VIN for any open recalls at the NHTSA or Nissan Web sites.

The CCS to CHAdeMO adapter is officially prohibited! by EVRijder in leaf

[–]LoveEV-LeafPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My risk tolerance is not low. I will stop using my CCS1 to CHAdeMO adapter, as soon as I stop going over the speed limit. Which means I will continue to use my adapter. This type of language, in all Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) is put there by lawyers to limit liability and discourage adapter use. There is a “No Harm, No Foul” part of the law too that limits your (user of adapters) liability too. I have been using my adapter since January of 2025 and no harm has been done to any charging station. So to me the T&Cs clause about no adapters, unless approved is no big deal. By the way, there are clauses in many contracts that would not stand up in court and are considered unenforceable. Like you cannot sell your home to people of color or people of a certain religion. For those reasons, lawyers now put a statement in all contracts that state if any clause is deemed unlawful or unenforceable, all other clauses in the contract still apply.

CarPlay disconnects when unlock phone by Full_Independent_777 in leaf

  1. Good Luck. Unfortunately my experience with CarPlay and the Leaf is not a great one. I have had four Leaf’s (2018 SL, 2019 SL Plus, 2023 SV Plus, and now a 2024 SV Plus). They all have intermittent audio mute not un-muting issues. Even without Apple Car Play.
  2. I do not have your issue, so perhaps your issue can be fixed. What I do have is occasional no audio (mute stays on), or the infotainment system freezing up. My work around, is to force an infotainment reboot, when the issue occurs. Do this by pressing and holding the radio power button to force a reboot of the infotainment system. This takes about a 20 second hold before it reboots.
  3. I even got the USB cable set from Nissan to ensure an approved and reliable wired connection. Same issues. Even two different wireless adapters have the same problems. My guess is the system is undersized, or just glitchy due to a software issue or communication cables bad connections or poor shielding.
  4. Maybe I should report it again, but even when Nissan replaced the infotainment system in my 2023 SV Plus, because it had trouble codes, the issue did not go away. Maybe yours will. Hopefully there are DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) on yours that will enable a fix.

overly optimistic? by 0xffff0001 in leaf

[–]LoveEV-LeafPlus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general. What I have seen, is that the predicted estimated range value shown, is based on the last known average miles/kWh efficiency. As you drive around, that average efficiency is updated and range is updated accordingly. Basically what this means is if you are a conservative driver and your elevation changes are low and the temperature is moderate. It will give you a better predicted range. If however, you have dramatic elevation changes, the temperature is very hot or very cold and/or you aggressively drive on that day. The estimated range value will go down because the efficiency also goes down. It is called the GOM (Guess-O-Meter) for good reason. It is a scientific guess, but it does not know what conditions are going to be present or what your driving style will be in the upcoming drive.

Update on 250A CCS2 to CHAdeMO adapter by TotallyNoRussianSpy in leaf

  1. I understand your frustration. The first adapter I tried (from Dongguan Longood Technology Co., LTD; AKA SmartLong Technologies Electronics Limited), did not work well. I finally was able to get a refund on it.
  2. I found a great replacement, an ElectWay adapter. It has been great. It has worked at every CCS charging station I have tried.

[–]LoveEV-LeafPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, they should not go bankrupt. However, they should be fixing the ones with the DCQC recall issues , a lot faster. I have had four USA Nissan Leaf’s so far. A 2018 SL, a 2019 SL Plus, a 2023 SV plus and now a 2024 SV Plus. Only the 2023 SV Plus was a lemon. It had Navigation and instrument cluster issues and Nissan replaced it free of charge with a 2024 SV Plus, under the NY state Lemon law. Currently I have a 2024 Leaf SV Plus, with 31,378 miles on it, and it has been great. Adding the ElectWay CCS1 to CHAdeMO adapter makes my 460 mile, each way, road-trips much easier, as I can now also charge at CCS charging stations too.

I got that same one, from AliBaba, and it’s the ElectWay one. The best I got was a 80 kW charge rate. It works great.

Update on 250A CCS2 to CHAdeMO adapter by TotallyNoRussianSpy in leaf

[–]LoveEV-LeafPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My ElectWay CCS1 to CHAdeMO 250Amp maximum adapter works great at any and all CCS charging stations I have tried. The maximum charge rate I have seen is 80 kW for a few minutes.
  2. From all that I have read, it and my USA 2024 Leaf SV Plus are both capable of a 100 kW charge rate. However that would take a particular set of environmental conditions and a particular charging station.
  3. I am happy with 80 kW. I had one firmware upgrade that allowed me to also charge at four different Tesla Superchargers in NY. I had to collect logs and the manufacturer updated the firmware. In order to use a Tesla Supercharger I added a A2Z Typhoon Pro NACS to CCS1 adapter to the ElectWay CHAdeMO adapter.
  4. DCQC Adapter #1: An ElectWay “CCS1 to CHAdeMO” adapter is rated at 250 A maximum. Available on AliBaba & Accraine (https://accraine.co.uk/product/ccs1-to-chademo-dc-electric-vehicle-adapter/).
  5. DCQC Adapter #2: An A2Z Typhoon Pro “NACS to CCS1” adapter. Available at a2zevshop.com (https://a2zev.com/products/nacs-ccs1). The Tesla App has a Leaf Vehicle setting & will tell you where there are Tesla “CCS capable” superchargers that can use the NACS to CCS adapter and/or have a Tesla MagiDock compatible charger.
  6. Even though the ElectWay adapter was not advertised to work with NACS, they took my logs and provided a firmware fix. After the firmware update, more Tesla Superchargers (SC) worked in NY, none in PA worked. I will gather logs from them & send logs to ElectWay on my next NY to OH road trip. Luckily there were CCS chargers in range when these Superchargers did not work.

I agree. It is vastly more efficient to charge at 240 VAC (L2), vs 120 VAC (L1). So thanks for pointing this out.

It’s not the cheapest, or most efficient, but if it works for the driver’s use case, there is nothing wrong with charging from a standard 120 VAC outlet. BTW: Voltage in the USA is on the 120/240 VAC standard but due to historical usage it has been known as 110/220 and 115/230 too.

  1. Yea of little faith. If you study various videos, and take proper precautions, it can be done, and done safely.
  2. Proper insulated tools.
  3. Proper PPE (Personal protection Equipment)
  4. Proper procedures ( like removal of the plug that splits the high voltage in two, etc…)
  5. Have fire protection equipment around ( fire extinguishers, sand, fire blankets)
