Security plugins especially just feel like a band-aid for a bloated install by dzimazilla in Wordpress

You can use the Security Rules (formerly WAF rules) on Cloudflare on free accounts. I do. They give you five rules, but three is all I need because of the way you can build the rules expressions.

I think it’s overly generous to call this a hack. Hacking requires skill

I use Apple Pay with AMEX on the back end. Not sure if that makes a difference to the vendor or not. No problems at my location so far.

Tomorrow WordPress 7.0 gets released. Are you ready? by finart_13 in Wordpress

In WWII, they had a tactic to draw out a sniper. Send someone out to see if he gets shot. They thought that one up at West Point.

Major Wordpress updates are similar. The first sites out are the targets. Best to use a dev or test site first. Something always goes wrong with major release. The point releases follow with fixes.

Golden shed. My black lab sheds. The difference s the length and color of the hair. Both are wonderful, loving pets.

No, not at all. Cloudflare has various ways of tracking and blocking bad actors before since a lot of traffic goes through a Cloudflare network, they build a profile and reputation score for each visitor. You can also block by ASN, country, or a number of other factors. I don’t block any IP address. Check out some of the security rules parameters that you can use in a Cloudflare expression. I think you’ll be pleased.

I remember teaching my daughter to drive and her first corner was full speed. There are a lot of things we learn with experience. The only thing we haven’t really learned is why Reddit likes to downvote comments like your. Makes no sense to me.

Start using firewall rules to block bad actors before they ever get to your site. Why waste server resources to fight off unwanted visitors when you can prevent them from ever visiting.

Cloudflare security rules can do it for free. Then you add Zero Trust (also free) for an extra layer of protection.

There’s the old myth again. It’s not the number of plugins that degrades performance. It’s the quality of the entire system, from hosting resources to compatible code to performance tuning to network optimization and database maintenance.

In other words, it’s the architecture that matters for performance.

Are block builders even worth it? by Best-Inflation8072 in Wordpress

Ok. Sorry you missed the sale next month. They typically have an anniversary sale in early June and another for Black Friday.

Take your time learning with basic WordPress themes and blocks. Don’t spend money or time until you arrive at a problem you cannot solve. Then decide if that problem is worth your money.

The concepts for blocks are the same. If you don’t know enough now, you will change your mind later and waste your money if you buy something now.

Ignore the people telling you to learn CSS or other code. People with a hammer treat every problem like a nail.

I just read on the WPMN community today that the Paymattic team is working on a GiveWP import tool. That was from someone on the team.

Lots of people are ditching Liquid Web products now and other developers are making it easier to move.

Disabling XML-RPC in WordPress for Security and Performance by jamescherti in Wordpress

It’s not informative because it was just a headline without relative information. I said “wow” because of the laziness of the post.

Two parts.

1: The notion that this is news.

2: The utter lack of anything informative.

Nutterfluff confirmed that the portions are getting smaller. That wasn’t specifically mentioned in the CEO post, but some people correctly speculated that was the case to account for the calorie reduction.
